Indy and Lego: Right! By AL5OEDM8TPTKV on 2008-06-27
I'm a 42 year old man, who just received "Lego Indiana Jones" for his birthday. Now, I'd been hearing about Lego Star Wars for a long time, and how much fun it was. But I just didn't buy it. I mean, how could having a Lego experience compare with Star Wars Battlefront or Star Wars Battlefront II, which was extremely realistic and fun to boot? Well, the truth is, in a campy and fun way, the Lego series takes what you love about the movies, and makes it truly a fun, interactive experience.
Lego Indiana Jones follows the plots of the three movies faithfully (with a few minor plot detail changes that totally don't detract from the enjoyment). Each "movie" has six missions in it, and your goal is to make it through each level. The process of making it through the level is not at all challenging, but really is smart in it's intuitiveness and manor. You instinctively know what to do in each level, and sometimes the challenge comes from trying to figure out how to do it. Embedded in each level are ten "treasure chests" filled with an artifact piece. Find all ten, and you get an artifact from that mission. Normally, I'm not into the side missions, or extra bonus things that some video games have, but finding these treasure chests became an obsession of mine!
All through the game, Lego has embedded some wry humor and playful puns that only enhance the game. For example, in the min-movie that opens "Temple of Doom", Willie's opening dance number is hilarious for her coughing. Since the Lego people don't actually talk but grunt at each other, it makes it even more funny. And Elsa Schneider's greeting at the Venice pier is one for the record books!
I'm throughly loving this game, and as soon as I am finished (I'm purposefully playing it slow to get the most enjoyment out of it over the longest period of time), it's off to Lego Star Wars for me! Highly recommended for all ages, and all Indy fans!
Nearly perfect! By AKLH86VQ7WX5F on 2008-06-07
I just finished playing through this game in Story mode, and I have to say it was a ton of fun from start to finish. In fact, the last time I enjoyed a video game this much was when I played the previous Lego game. This game has virtually everything you could expect in the series: Humorous cut scenes, imaginative puzzles, new attack moves, and cool new vehicles to handle.
The game itself is divided into the same "3 movies, 6 chapters/movie" sections as both the Lego Star Wars games, and feels about the same length.
The puzzles are both more intricate and more logical than the Lego Star Wars games. If you have played either of the previous Lego games, there will be little in the way of outright frustration for you. If you have not, however, or you have young children playing through the game, get ready to encounter some real stumbling blocks. I have gotten 100% on both the previous Lego Star Wars games, and I still had to resort to a walkthrough/message board on three separate occasions to finish the Story Mode of this game.
Unlike Star Wars, where there were several interesting characters in a bit of a Rebel Forces ensemble piece, the Indiana Jones movies focused squarely on Indy and Indy alone. As a result, the characters selection screen is padded with Indy in several different costumes, which is a few too many. However, the other characters have been made interesting as well, and the game does a good job of balancing out skills so that you might actually want to be the non-Indy character once in a while.
The music is top notch, and sounds virtually indistinguishable from the movie.
The humor is (if anything) even better than in the Lego Star Wars games. I found myself laughing out loud several times through the course of the game from the unexpected cut scene script deviations.
The vehicles/animals section is a standout. You will ride boats, horses, elephants, motorcycles, and (of course) a mine cart, among other things. This section is an improvement over both Lego Star Wars games, as each one of the vehicles/animals are both unique and fun (unlike the "glorified floating bridge" landspeeder in Lego Star Wars II).
The only downside of such an outstanding game is the sub-par buddy character AI. I played through the game on my own, and there were a few instances where my helper character had no clue what to do. In fact, in some rare cases, I had to plug a second controller into the PS2 to make both characters do what I wanted, something I NEVER had to do on either of the Lego Star Wars. It was a shame, as it took away a bit of the fun from an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable game.
Despite the AI problem, this is a 5-star game, and will be truly enjoyable for the whole family.
Loads of fun By AJKWF4W7QD4NS on 2008-06-16
Traveller's Tales returns with another Lego-based game, this time focusing on the Indiana Jones franchise after conquering the world of Star Wars. Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures is exactly what the title implies: the original Indy trilogy in Lego form. It should be noted right now that if you've played any of the Lego Star Wars games, you'll feel right at home here. The gameplay itself is relatively simple, family friendly fun that nearly anyone can pick up and play. Co-op mode is where the real fun of Lego Indiana Jones is to be had though, and like Lego Star Wars before it, the game just has a sense of undeniable charm to it that you can't help but get some enjoyment in the very least out of it. It may not take you too long to breeze through the game though, but if you do, it is worth going back and playing again just to catch all the game's in-jokes and visual gags, along with a horde of hidden items and goodies as well. If there's any real flaws to the game, it's that the AI isn't all that good in terms of enemies and AI-controlled pals, but as a whole, Lego Indiana Jones is massively enjoyable. All in all, Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures continues the tradition of wonderfully fun and family friendly games, and is definitely worth picking up for Indy fans or anyone looking for some good clean fun.
Great fun. By AX2A1O12781LC on 2008-06-05
I was a big fan of the Lego star wars games and this seems so far to be different enough from those to be 'new' and still has enough of the old to be just as much fun. Only complaint is that in the first day I did manage to lock it up when my son tried to drop out at the same time I pushed pause. Also the puzzles seem to be more involved and harder to solve than in the star wars series.
Another great Lego game! By A2KK0TGWNE5TPY on 2008-06-08
My 5 year old and I enjoyed multiple hours on the Lego Star Wars games, so we were excited when Lego Indiana Jones came out. Its format is very similar to the Star Wars games. We actually got through the game in about 4 days. It actually seems a little easier and less complex than the Lego Star Wars games. We haven't reached 100% yet, but we finished all the levels in Story mode. That's what's nice about this game, there is still plenty to go back and do during "free play" mode. Yes, there are a few things that are harder to figure out. There was a few times I had to resort to an online walkthrough. I would recommend this game to anyone - old and young.
- Did not disappoint!
     By A3CX8VEJANI6R6 on 2008-06-14
DH and I ordered this one after playing Lego Star Wars with the kiddos and we unanimously love it. As always with the Lego approach, there is plenty of humor and loads of fun. It's challenging enough for adults while still being completely accessible to my 5 and 7 y.o.'s. Plus, as the mama to these little ones, I am always happy at the lack of gore and blood. We can't wait to try Lego Batman!
- Not As Good As Star Wars
     By A13FY9GZMNVGHX on 2008-06-25
This is another cool lego game, but for some reason I haven't found it as much fun as the original Star Wars games. There seems less to do, and not as challenging as the previous games. But still well worth the while playing and enjoying over and over again.
- Warning!!!
     By A32P5F58ICIOWY on 2008-06-30
Be warned! You will let the dishes go, the litter box will overflow with cat poop, you'll wear the same clothes for days in a row and not care, and let voice mail answer your calls. This will happen because you are so sucked into the fun and fabulousness of LEGO Indiana Jones. Don't say I didn't warn you...
- My son and I play this game for hours
     By A25HYPL2XKQPZB on 2008-08-22
My six year old son and I played both Lego Star Wars games for months so of course we were going to get Lego Indiana Jones. If you've played Lego Star Wars, you'll be able to jump in and immediately play Lego Indiana Jones. Home base is Barnett College and you can access the first three movies and the six adventures each contain.
Each level contains the 10 treasures you must collect in order to build an artifact, as well as a mailbox and parcel you must collect to earn special powers and abilities. You'll be required to play each level in story mode. In this mode you are required to use certain characters and are entertained by lego characters acting out the movie. These movie clips are always funny and family friendly.
I must admit to consulting a game guide on the computer to navigate the more difficult levels. One complaint I has is that there didn't seem to me as many bad guys as Star Wars, and the major villians were very easy to defeat. The levels are complex and focus heavily on completing puzzles and finding keys for locks to complete them, as opposed to defeating numerous bad guys.
The Lego series of games, including Lego Indiana Jones, has found the perfect balance of gameplay that allows a father and six year old son to play as equals and to have a blast doing it.
- An Excellent Game
     By AMXQ53C1WOPZ8 on 2008-06-17
I have always loved the Indy movies, so naturally I grabbed this game when it came out. VERY fun - if you like the LEGO Star Wars games this will not disappoint. Many new features when compared to the Star Wars series. There are some parts that I find a little annoying, but overall very fun - action filled and there are even puzzles to solve. Also, there are some humorous aspects that crack me up. The re-playability is OUTSTANDING! It is so rare to find a game that you can play over and over again without falling asleep, but LEGO Indiana Jones pulls it off. Well worth your time - a jewel.
- EXCELLENT GAME FOR KIDS!!!
     By A2VNIF8M4JOFTL on 2008-06-24
I BOUGHT THIS GAME FOR MY TWIN 5 YEAR OLD BOYS. THEY LOVED IT. SINCE I HAD PREVIOUSLY BOUGHT THE LEGO STAR WARS GAMES, I WAS SURE I WOULDN'T BE DISAPPOINTED. I PROMISE YOU, I WAS NOT. THE GAME HAD SOME HARD TO FIGURE OUT PLACES BUT WITH SOME TIME AND PATIENCE, I WORKED THOSE PROBLEMS OUT. IF YOUR KIDS WANT A FUN AND CHALLENGING GAME, THIS IS THE GAME FOR YOU. I ENJOY THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CUSSING AND WHEN SOMEONE DIES THERE IS NO BLOOD. THE LEGOS SIMPLY BREAK APART. THE KIDS FIND IT CHALLENGING AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE STARS WARS HIDDEN REFERENCES (YOU'LL HAVE TO PLAY TO UNDERSTAND). SO IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A CLEAN GAME FOR YOU KIDS, ANY ONE OF THE LEGO'S GAMES WOULD BE PERFECT.
- Lego Indiana Jones-Great game for kids
     By A12ZRYN53WCZUK on 2008-07-02
My four year old son loves playing this game. He hasn't seen any of the Indiana Jones movies yet, but he loves figuring out the puzzles and getting through each level.
He likes the fact that the Lego Star Wars characters are hidden throughout the game. He gets excited when he sees them.
If your kids or you like the Lego Star Wars games, this game is a must.
- Great for Kids and Adults!!!
     By A550CTF82FU4L on 2008-07-03
I do not as a rule like very many video games, but this is one that both like and look forward to playing with my children. They love it, and I love joining in and playing after one or the other wants to take a break. A very impressive part is that it makes you think for the puzzles. They are good. My son is very intelegent for his age, {6} and the puzzles were just what we were looking for for him. By puzzles I mean at times the changing of one person to another to help each other get past diffrent things. Having never seen the movies the games are even more fun, as I really have little idea of the story line before we see it played out!
I bought Lego Starwars and that was so much fun to play it is one of the reasons that we chose this game. I LOVE the little movie shorts that they have inserted rather closely, as to keep the munckins attention. I would recomend this game for anyone looking for a fun game that can be played and enjoyed by everyone in the family!!!
- great game
     By on 2008-08-15
Lego Indiana Jones is one of my favorite games. I like how you usually dont have a gun-it makes it more of a challenge, I also like how you can still make your own people like in Lego Star Wars 2. But what I think I like best is that there is a ton of lego vehicles and animals, and the game is filled with odd secret rooms and stuff to build, and the last thing I like about Lego Indiana Jones is that it's not a game you beat in one day and say "that was boring". One thing I didn't like about Lego Indiana Jones is how everything in Barnette College is so spread out, also it takes along time to enter a level. All in all, Lego Indiana Jones is one of the best games I have played.
- Just not for kids

This game takes some thinking. Getting to the extream end it not as easy as it looks for a lego game.
- Greatest Family Game since Lego Star Wars

I got this game as a house warming gift for my son. He was so excited when he saw it. It's since been a game that the whole family can enjoy. I wish they would make a movie.
- Fantastic Game

My 2 grandchildren absolutely love this game. They have had a ball with it. They have both the Star Wars games and can't wait for Batman.
They both say that they are disappointed that Star Wars- The Complete Saga is not available for PS2.
- 9 & 10 yr olds LOVE IT!
     By A2U7TT59XIV6V6 on 2008-07-10
As a parent who is reluctant to provide "fighting" games for my boys, I started off with the LEGO Star Wars video game, 6 months ago at Christmas 2007. (The boys were 8 & 9 then.)Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy I figured that the leap in their minds from legos battling to my boys physically fighting was pretty great. Since I didn't see my sons physically lashing out at each other when they got angry or frustrated, (after hours of playing Legos Star Wars) I was encouraged. So in June 2008, I bought the Indiana Jones Lego video game. Both boys and their friends love to play it. It is easy enough for them to handle, yet challenging enough for them to have to work at it and not get bored. I have noticed that my sons and their friends take both the LEGO video storylines and can role play with their lego toys longer than they used to. I like to encourage imaginative play and this video game actually helps them do just that! Who would have thought!? (Mom age 51)

I bought this for my 11 year old Grandson who loves Lego Star Wars. I find the Indiana Jones to be just as much entertaining and definitely less violent than other video games. Because the characters are Lego characters, it is not so graphic.

My husband and I fell in love with Lego Star Wars 2 as a game we could play together. Lego Indiana Jones follows right in its footsteps with clever challenges, humorous characters, and the ability to break nearly everything in your path into a million Lego pieces. We look forward to completing this Lego gem and moving on to the next in Lego's bag of tricks: Lego Batman!
