About Mio
The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer’s advice.

Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world’s first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products.

  • Good but you should know

    By A28V21DPM4ARPI on 2008-04-06
I have read the other reviews for several Mio strapless heart rate watches and I have basicly the same experience and positive review. Very good product but your body must be still to get your heart rate and wait about 6 seconds (this is why only 4 stars rating). It reads out the HR and the percent of max. However, it won't display anywhere what your personal max rate it is using. You most do some math yourself to find what number the Mio is using. I want to know because I know what target I should be using for my circumstances. Your max HR is different for land based x, shallow water x, and deep water x. I do all three forms of exercise. For some you maybe interested to know the second black/pink band that comes with the package is smaller and fits only the smallest of wrists.

  • Love this product!

I wanted a watch that could count calories and keep tract of how many calories I was burning in a workout. This watch does just that. It is very easy to use and unlike other reviews I have seen.....this watch DOES let you enter as many meals as you have, it doesnt limit you to 3 imputs of calories per day. You do have to reset the calories each day but that is super easy. The other thing I like about the watch is that it comes with a book that recommends how many calories you should be eating to loose weight but it is totally up to you as to what you put your calorie intake into the watch. The last thing I thought was cool is that you get this mini book you can keep with you that has a ton of common foods listed and what their calories are, its a great quick reference tool and its small!

  • Disappointed with the strap

    By A17K5UEUPSIT95 on 2008-06-24
I purchased this item primarily for the pink and black strap (as opposed to the other colors available for this item from Amazon). I had read the reviews that said the strap was for small wrists, which I have, but, the strap is SO SMALL that only a child or a teen could comfortably wear it. (And I don't know of any children or teens who care enough about their heart rate to spend $50 on *this* watch.) I can't imagine what the mfr was thinking. The watch itself is okay. The heart rate monitor is super easy to use, but the set up and entry buttons are a little awkward -- it's much easier to do it if you're not wearing the watch, which, if you're using the calorie counter throughout the day, is a pain.

  • Mio Classic HRM

    By A1X7HUMHJFXFAB on 2008-08-09
I was hoping for it to be just a tiny bit better. It was great for treadmill run or personal work outs. With a little practice it bacame pretty easy to get a heart rate and I think it is pretty close. And it was easy to figure out the programs. But when I was actually running on the street and trying to watch the road and keep up a good speed, I found it to be impossible to get a reading. If I slowed down I could get it, but slowing down is not what you want to do if you are trying to maintain a good speed. I tried several times and it just would not give me a reading no matter if I tried for a few seconds or 15 seconds. For a runner who changes speeds, this may not be the right item, but for the light work out or treadmill, I think it would do nicely.

  • Love my pink heat rate monitor!

    By A3B95PVX8GDAI on 2008-07-06
I was looking for a heart rate monitor that didn't have a chest strap and was so glad to find this one. It is a bit larger than a normal watch, but that's because it doesn't need a chest strap. It also doesn't give you a constant reading of your heart rate and therefore calories burned are only an estimate based on the time elaspsed and your current heart rate. I find that it's still acurate and helps me to keep my heart rate in the target range and giving me a good picture of how many calories I've burned. Besides - it's pink and supports breast cancer research!
