  • KINGSTON IS ALWAYS THE BEST! WONDERFUL PRODUCT!

    By ABDR6IJ93HFIO on 2008-01-31
Before I bought this, I owned several of the older Kingston Flash Drives with the white top. When I saw this one with the slider bar and no top to worry with, I had to have it. Works great and my data transfers very quickly. The slider is a little stiff, however, the flash drive is still new and hopefully it will loosen up a bit. All in all a well made unit. Highly recommend this one. It beats the SanDisk because there is not USELESS U3 software and this flash drive loads very quickly!

  • 4.3 MB/s write speed

    By A2I6562SSXAD6 on 2008-03-21
I tested the write speed of the red 2GB model on my Windows XP notebook and desktop, and for a single large 100-200MB file, the write speed is 4.3 MB/s. That means if you want to write 2,000MB of assorted large files it will probably take about 8 minutes. I didn't test read speed or speed with lots of small files. Note that there are two retractable drives at the same price point that are 40% to 160% faster writing (the pqi i810 and Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 2GB models, respectively). Also, the Kingston DataTraveler 110 (a newer model) has been reviewed to be at least 100% faster than the 100 as well, but the 110 is significantly fatter and may get in the way of other USB ports.

Other notes: When you retract the drive the USB connector remains flush with the body and there is no "door" (like all the retractables I've seen), so if you throw this in your pocket you may get lint in the connector. There is a small green LED light that blinks once quickly when you insert the drive, and blinks repeatedly when there is activity. The drive is recognized quickly.

There are no accessories: There is no lanyard and if you want to hang this on a keyring, you will need to find a tiny keyring and try hard to squeeze it on, and then latch on the tiny keyring to your normal keyring. There is no metal swivel cover like in one of the user photos.

The body is plastic and the label is cheap peel-off and already coming off after several days. The slide-out mechanism locks when fully extended and the thickness is a little narrower than average.

The main issue is I was expecting a faster write rate.

UPDATE: The cheap label I mentioned was just a plastic protector. After I peeled it off, the "DataTraveler 2GB" remains inscribed on the plastic.

  • Awesome!!!

    By A1GCUBY8UHDKRB on 2008-02-12
This is the first Flash Drive I've ever gotten and i did a lot of research before making the decision. Straight out of the box it worked brilliantly and installed itself with a Microsoft XP and VISTA computer instantly. It comes with Readyboost on it but you can choose if you want it to be used. However, the best feature of all is that it is lightning fast and very simple to use.

Another thing I like about it that I didn't know when I bought it was how it lights up when connected with a computer. This can very be helpful when you're not sure weather it's attached to the computer. The USB slider is awesome and I have already picked up a bad habit of moving it back and forth (which will probably end up breaking it)...

The drive is a little fragile and probably wont last long if your one of those people who get a kick out of beating up electronics but other than that great workmanship for the price!

  • Faster than other USB drives

    By AMJQ94J3VDII6 on 2008-02-28
I've had 10 or 11 USB drives over the years. Most I've given away as I bought ones that were bigger and better (I "only" have 5 now). In comparison, this one seems faster than most of the others. It's definitely faster than another Kingston model I had. Portable Apps installed quickly and flawlessly, and although the description doesn't say that it's ReadyBoost-ready ... mine is.

I like the fact that I can't lose the cap.

I'll buy a higher-capacity one like this ... probably soon.

  • solid USB drive, no gimmicks

    By A2YOJMXSIUIZ5V on 2008-04-27
I found this drive to be very good and fast for the price, better yet, there are no programs already loaded so the thing is easy and simple to use without messing around with pre-loaded software.

  • So Far So Good
    By AHIK7BUXFRMT8 on 2008-05-02
This Kinston flash drive seems to work just fine. When inserted in the USB port it automatically opens a window on the monitor showing the contents of the drive. One caveat however, the drive letter serving that port had better be free or the Kingston won't work. I had initially assigned that drive letter to a Network Attached Storage backup so the Kingston wouldn't load no matter what I tried. I e-mailed Kingston support and one of their suggestions was to check that the port drive letter was not already in use. Sure enough it was; I reassigned the NAS to another drive letter and the Kingston has been working perfectly every since.

  • good choice!
    By A1ABXSTWUNREUJ on 2008-06-01
I just wanted a functional flash drive and that's what I got. It's detected quickly when plugged in, has a good transfer rate and does not have annoying software already installed. A reviewer mentioned it did not have software to secure it but that's not a big drawback because I can password protect the content(folders).Overall, I'm happy with it's performance.

  • 1GB flash drive by Kensington
    By A2THFUD3XRX6JI on 2008-02-14
I ordered the Kensington product based on product name and known quality however the package arrived empty therefore my personal experience with this product cannot be expressed.

  • great device
    By A15HECDA7WAHER on 2008-04-20
I only used this flash drive once, but it worked flaelessly. All three computers that I used it on recognized it right away and upload/download was instantaneous. My only concern is how long the button that extends the USB connector will last before it breaks. No reason to suspect it will, just the only negative I can see.

  • Excellent product for the price
    By A6ZWEF62WIUNI on 2008-04-27
I don't do a lot and don't need a lot re: my computer. But a friend suggested the Kingston b/c of it's reliability and the retractable connector. It's doing everything I need it to!

  • Good memory, but not-so-good travelling
    By A26IOZ3OS3DSIZ on 2008-04-24
I have no problem with the memory, but I was planning to use this in daily retrieval of info in my workplace. After 1 month, it became very hard to actually get into my computer port, as if the latch wasn't working. I'd say that this would be a good flashdrive to have as a back up, for leaving in your desk drawer. However,as a traveling flashdrive, this doesn't work well.

  • What a handy tool!
    By AULE6CVEI0LQT on 2008-06-26
This was the first time I've used a flash drive. I used it to transfer files from one laptop to another. It worked like a gem. Quick and easy. Just what I was looking for.

  • Love these things
    By A2QP7XHBB2GLES on 2008-07-19
I put the data from 40 old disketts on this 1gb stick and still have 60% of the space left. And the best part is that they act like a hard drive.

  • Small and cute.
    By A39GJOZXEU88DB on 2008-08-04
This 1G is perfect to transport files. Smaller than a Bic lighter, it goes anywhere.

  • Very spiffy
    By AGA6DKN7WVSLM on 2008-08-06
This is my first purchasing a usb flash drive
I got the red 2 GB version
I mainly bought it to transfer files from my old and busted computer to my new hotness laptop so speed is important to me and this one didn't disappoint me
It took a few trips but it got the job done

I run Vista on my laptop so it surprised me when it gave the option to perform ReadyBoost
The slider is a nice feature
Don't have to worry about caps not that I ever had to worry about those in the first place lol

I love how the green light flashes when it's in use
It tells me when ReadyBoost is doing its thang and doesn't just sit there looking pretty
