Reader not recognized By A1N38CHRF89BXZ on 2008-09-05
Although the card is fine, which I the main reason I purchased, the reader doesn't appear to be properly recognized on any USB port on either my desktop or laptop, both running XP. Both computers 'see' the drive and I can navigate to the files on the card, however, if I try to copy any files to the card, I get a message indicating the card is locked...which it isn't...I've set the lock on the card to both positions several times to make sure. The card reads fine in the built in SD reader on my laptop and through a SanDisk reader plugged into my desktop.
I tried downloading the driver and app from the Transcend website but it aborts because it doesn't 'see' that the reader is attached...tried it with the card in and with the card out...same result.
If the main reason you're buying this combo is the nice little reader, you might think twice.
Great memory card and reader combination. By A2LTHQM2U0B9VA on 2008-09-30
Needed a larger capacity SD-HC memory card for my digital camera. Saw this card/reader combo on Amazon for a great price, easily half of what I could have bought locally. Very happy with the card so far -- NOTE: The only problem with these high-capacity cards is that they apparently can't be read with a normal SD reader.
Excellent Value - but be careful where you order it from... By AOEAD7DPLZE53 on 2008-10-13
I purchased the 16GB version (Transcend 16GB SDHC CARD with Compact Card Reader) of this package a few months ago. The card was meant to be used in my Canon S5 camera. But I soon discovered that it works extremely well with the included card reader as an USB flash drive (much larger and faster than my SanDisk 4GB Cruzer Micro). So I ended up using it mainly for data backup and transfer between my laptop and desktop computers. The card has proven to be fast and reliable in the past 2-3 months of daily usage.
As first I was skeptical about Transcend's speed rating of 'class 6', which means minimum 6MB/S when writing. But my own benchmark results (see Customer Images) showed that this card is capable of writing typical photo files at 10.5MB/S - nearly twice its specified minimum data transfer rate. Just for reference, the Sandisk 8GB EXTREME III claims a faster speed of 20MB/S, but it costs about twice as much.
Considering its low cost and respectable speed, this Transcend card is an excellent buy. But please make sure that you order it from a reputable vendor only. Several reviewers who ordered the 16GB version from TheMemStore complained that they received some no-name card reader (instead of the Transcend DRS5). This may explain why some people have encountered problems when using this card.
Works By A20IMTV0IG1M40 on 2008-09-25
I bought this for use in a canon hf100 camera and so far it works fine. I'm buying a second one. I like the card reader. It makes it much easier to transfer files to my computer as opposed to using the usb cable that came with the camera. I can also plug the card reader in my ps3 and play the video directly to it.
great for older computers By A3CKHLU31JSVR8 on 2008-09-30
i have an older laptop with only 1 usb port, and with this product along with the 8GB card,i can add extra storage.this helps keep my laptop running fast and efficient.
- Great for long trips abroad
     By A28ZA3U8Z0OQ67 on 2008-10-11
I actually bought this card many months ago before they introduced the reader with it as a package deal, and I am considering buying another one just for the reader. Another reviewer mentions to "think twice" if this is why you might want to buy it, and I am... but the card really is good on its own in any case. I took it to a 3-week pilgrimage in Spain (where computer access was little to none) and was able to save a whopping 729 photographs on a 7.1MP Canon Elph -- plus room for more, I later found. I didn't upload any of the photos until I returned stateside, and many are still on the camera so that I can show them to people using the camera itself.
For computer usage, I found the card to be decent, but not spectacular. It runs ok with an Asus Eee PC on Linux, and ok on a Dell with Vista. Try popping the thing into your Treo, though, and Windows Mobile freaks out a bit.
I think I'll still get another one, though.
- Awesome Product
     By A134GLET9KIZN8 on 2008-10-11
USB card reader works great! 8GB Card works great! I put it in my Canon SD100 IS Elph camera and couldn't be happier. A great Deal!
- no review
     By A1TGYUGPM60M3G on 2008-09-30
I'm not even going to review this item, although I will say that the card is good and the reader is so-so but acceptable.
What I am going to complain about is the fact that I wanted to change my star rating after experimenting more with the reader, but was unable to.
Perhaps I just don't know how, but if so then it's not as obvious how to do this as it should be.
- The reader is a bonus
     By ARC5ASW9CUAGP on 2008-10-22
I bought this from Amazon frankly because at $14.99 the price was right (a special offer they had out there for awhile). I already own a multi-format Transcend card reader, which, unlike many other vendor products, actually handles all card formats, so I figured these folks know what they are doing and this package confirms that. The SDHC card in the package outperforms the minimum standard for class 6 SDHC by a good bit, perfect for my Canon SD800 (gives me over an hour of movie time). The reader Transcend included in the package is a bonus, providing means for using up my collection of older and more capacity challenged SD format cards, particularly when I want to leave something with a client to take home to their equipment - beats giving up a thumb drive!
- Great card (and reader) for the price
     By A23N28VWUZK9CA on 2008-11-02
I have purchased multiples of both the 8g and 16g Transcend SDHC cards with the bonus reader. Simply put, they deliver as promised. Fast and reliable. I use them with my Canon Rebel XSI.
One vendor I ordered from sent me a Digitalmatrex USB reader instead of the Transcend USB reader. The Digitalmatrex USB reader was less than half the speed of the Transcend USB reader (with a Transcend 16g card). For example, "Test Card" from Lexar diagnostic tools took over an hour with the Digitalmatrex SDHC 150x Card reader, less than 30 minutes with the Transcend USB reader (same 16g card). Do note, the name is indeed Digitalmatrex, this is not a typo. I recommend the Lexar Image Rescue suite too, but that is another review :-)
To their credit, the vendor refunded me in total (item and shipping) for their incorrect shipping. If you look around a little at Transcend reviews on Amazon you will infer who the vendor is.
The card has a lifetime guarantee, the reader two years. You really can not go wrong with this combo.
- WOW....recommended
     By ALETZ1EOJ6YJ4 on 2008-11-12
What a great product ! I never knew downloads could be this fast ! I downloade nearly 1 GB in under 3 minutes. Works flawlessly with my USB 2.0 hub and Toshiba laptop running XP.
- Quality product at a terrific price
     By A2SGAFYZSD7TSP on 2008-11-16
I highly reccoment this chip for anyone that has a camera that is 8 megs or higher. Anything much smaller and ther is too much chip changing. With it's dedicated reader and the small footprint you can download your pictures to a flashdrive from any computer
- Great Buy
     By A1FKTPR5120P4E on 2008-10-23
I bought three of these while they were at $14.99, so I received a great deal. These are the best, I am hoping that the price drops again to buy some more of these. These SD cards are worth the money.
- Good Cheap SD Card
     By A3GJJX4WZJB55U on 2008-10-24
It's an 8gb SDHC card with a free USB card reader. When I bought it, it was on sale for $12.85, at the current price you might be better off getting Sandisk 8GB SD Memory Card (SDSDB-8192, Bulk Package) for ~15.
- awesome
     By AP2ZL9QFIPGMM on 2008-10-27
great item. the card reader is a bit flimsy but gets the job done. card works fine for my nuvi. would definitely recommend to anyone.
- Works great. Fairly fast write times.
     By A3IAB658ZZLOHH on 2008-10-30
Works great in my Panasonic TZ5. Can keep up with 720/30fps HD video. The card reader works fine, but the side input is slightly awkward, SD card slightly touches my PC's case. Very thin otherwise. Good to have SDHC card reading ability through my USB port!
Good buy for pretty fast 8GB SD card and SDHC reader.
- 8GB SD Card with USB reader
     By ACSPSJVFLWGI7 on 2008-10-31
The product is great. Very simple to use and provides plug and play for Digital Camera SD Memory cards with your computer rather than having to mess about with cables.
If you have more than one camera and are typically used to finding the right time to link every thing up including using the AC adapter for the camera during the transfer of images then the Transcend Card Reader is a real bonus. Take the SD Card straight from the camera and plug striagh in to the PC. Down load the pictures just like copying files from one directory to another,(delete files simply as well), and then slip the memory back in the camera. Its also hugely useful if you need to copy big files from one computer to another.
Love the product.
- Faster than a speeding USB card...
     By A3HETGG541SHH4 on 2008-11-09
In a way, this is a review of the card reader, and the card, as aside from the Asus I bought this card for, the card reader is the only unit that I have that accepts SDHD.
First and foremost, 4 gb transfers in about 12 minutes. No idea how that is on the scale of things, but 4 gb of transfers on the old CF-hard drive I've got takes close to an hour to happen. So for me, it's speedy.
The design of the USB reader works, abet simply. I'd have rather they made things slightly thinner on the opposite side of where the SDHD cards go, as it does cramp the nearby USB ports, but I can have my micro bluetooth and the card reader side by side, so I've adapted to it. The cards fit in snugly and it'll hold the card in even when it is bumped around. The small and thin design allows me to keep it stored in a very tight fitting EeePC case, so I'm very pleased.
Card works, card reader works - all for a pretty reasonable price. I can't think of anything reasonable to complain about - unreasonable complaints would be a lack of a loop for me to attach it to a bag or something, or other useless nitpicks. The blocking of nearby USB ports is the only reasonable complaint, and it will work when paired with a very small connector like a micro USB bluetooth dongle.
- Great value
     By A3GZ5VG8CPF9B6 on 2008-11-10
So far it is working flawlessly in my Pentax K10D. Capacity is almost 1700 highest quality JPEGs, and about 450 RAW images...
- increased MP3 players storage
     By A2FXE6A48F6FO4 on 2008-11-10
I can now add more music and movvies on my player at the lowest price around
- Great price just take note
     By A2DFU7GVUS0V7A on 2008-11-10
This is a great product at a great price! The only thing is that you neccessarily have to have the usb card reader to read the sd memory card. You cannot just put the card into the sd slot in your computer and read the info. But this is absolutely the best price around. I bought 2 of them and am thrilled with them! I may buy more.
- Best deal - 8Gb SDHC card
     By A20NK511VBD4Q9 on 2008-11-10
I bought two of these 8Gb SDHC cards. At $15 each with a dedicated reader (for SD cards only) and free shipping (with Amazon Prime in trial version)they are my best deal ever with Amazon. The cards are good and responsive. I use them with a Canon SX10 IS and so far I didn't have any issue. I tested the card reader in three different OS and it worked smoothly in Windows XP, Mac Leopard and Linux Ubuntu.
Unfortunately, after few days they raised the price, but if it drops back to $15 or less I'll buy more of these very good and responsive SDHC cards.
- Memory card great; Reader not so hot
     By A2EEM4XQKLPNRO on 2008-11-10
Memory card works as advertised, and was a great price. Included reader is very touchy. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Luckily, I have a couple more SDHC readers so no big deal, but don't buy it thinking you're getting a handy reader that you can rely on. I sure wouldn't travel with that reader. But on the other hand, even with the so so reader, the price for the card itself was very good. Again, like I said in another review, some of this computer stuff is just a commodity, and the determining factor should normally be best price.
- Imperfect design
     By AFHWJD0O2FF6 on 2008-11-10
It is good to have a large capacity chip (8GB - large now, not so large next month, maybe).
Slight drawback with the design though - the USB chip reader has the SD chip sticking out the side. There are devices that it won't fit into. All resolvable by using a USB extension cord of course, but still, it probably would have been smarter to have the chip fit into the end opposite the USB plug, rather than the side. Perhaps the reader socket could be at the end of a 1-inch wire, so as to be able to flex as necessary.
Otherwise, very fine.
- Big little memory
     By AZKKHRPVN9CVM on 2008-11-10
Here is a product you can slip into your pocket, and fetch it out when needed to insert into your computer. With 8 Gig of memory, it's enough to cover most needs.
- Great product
     By A2JFI8EGPVANHE on 2008-11-10
Very quick and handy you can take this out of your camera and use it on any computer.
- Cheap price, does what it's supposed to do
     By A31J9EMNWBG583 on 2008-11-11
I bought this because it was cheap and it came with an SDHC card reader (my old card reader couldn't read SDHC). As far as I can tell, it works perfectly fine, and the class 6 SDHC card seems faster than my old SD cards. The SD/SDHC card is inserted perpendicular to the reader, which is a little weird, but it works. I would have preferred something that doesn't stick out so much, or sticks out the back instead of the side, but this is a minor complaint.
- Transcend 8GB card
     By A3P46GHV45VDYO on 2008-11-11
We have used the Transcend cards in two different cameras and both work very well - we will be going overseas soon and hope to be able to take all the pictures we want withoud downloading total of 16gbs
- good deal
     By A3GWVZESPHMCLQ on 2008-11-11
this is really sweet, it has a card reader and a 8GB card only for 15$.
- Bargain Priced 8GB SDHC
     By A37FXC4NL3SCGI on 2008-11-11
Two things attracted me to the Transcend TS8GSDHC6-S5W memory card with card read. First was the low price for an 8GB Class 6 SDHC card; second was the included card reader. I'm always in the market for high capacity memory cards for use in both digital audio recording and for video recording with my Canon 800IS digital camera. I purchased two of these devices and immediately put them to use in recording performances of an entertainer aboard the American Queen steamboat. The cards performed flawlessly and the reader allowed me to share the files with the entertainer whose laptop was not equipped to read SDHC cards.
I recommend this product to anyone in the market for high capacity SD cards at a low price.
