Protect your system and online accounts with your unique fingerprint for advanced security and peace of mind. The integrated 1.3-megapixel WebCam (and integrated microphone) provides easy video conferencing via VoIP and video IM chats. Optimized for mobile performance, it's powered by the 2.3 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-66 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a 250 GB hard drive, 3 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), quad-mode Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard slot, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 video/graphics card with 559 MB of shared video RAM, and Gigabit Ethernet. It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures. The Basics - Processor: The 2.3 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-66 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it's designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You'll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
Each processing core has a 512 KB L2 cache (for a 1 MB total), and this processor can deliver up to a 1600 MHz system bus for lightning quick computing reflexes. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) - Hard Drive: The 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive is more than double the average size for notebook PCs, and it offers a fast 5400 RPM disk speed--an improvement over other notebooks with extra-large hard drives. It provides more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and video editing software. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: This notebook comes installed with 3 GB of RAM (DDR2), which helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. It has a 4 GB RAM capacity.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVD±RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art. - Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
- Integrated Fingerprint Reader: A fingerprint reader offers advanced security by using fingerprints instead of standard passwords to access online accounts, such as banks and e-mail. To set up access, each fingerprint is associated with a password through Verisoft Access Manager. Verisoft Single Sign On (SSO) stores user names and passwords to an unlimited number of sites and automatically enters logon credentials. If more than one person uses the notebook PC, each can use a fingerprint to logon to a computer user account and access preset preferences and files.
Screen, Video & Audio The 12.1-inch LCD screen can swivel 180 degrees, providing optimal angles for viewing DVD movies and business presentations, and it folds flat for working in tight travel spaces such as airplanes or trains. It has a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. Video is powered by the integrated Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 559 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks. One of the headphone jacks is also compatible with SPDIF digital audio output for home theater surround sound. Networking, Connectivity & Expansion Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with this notebook's integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments). You also get super-fast wired connectivity, with a Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000). With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. This notebook includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (though no standard PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options: - 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 1 VGA monitor port
- 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
- 1 ExpressCard 34
- 1 headphone jack (with S/PDIF digital audio compatibility) and 1 microphone jack
- 1 notebook expansion port 3 (for use with the HP xb3000 Expansion Base or the HP Notebook QuickDock)
- 2 consumer IR (infrared)--1 on notebook, 1 on LCD panel
- 5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card)
- Integrated 56K modem (V.90)

Small, powerfull with a crap of a OS. By A3I4MLJH6WNW0B on 2008-01-31
This notebook is amazing. Lightweighted, small, with a good price. It haves 3Gb of RAM and can expand to 4Gb, of course, for that you will need change the OS and there is the main problem of this machine: Windows Vista Home Premium. It's heavy, uses all system's resources, its slows down the system, and it's 32bit architecture don't let you put more than 3gb of ram and the 64bit arch of the processor became useless.
Being Home Premium you can't downgrade to XP (you have to buy a Business license and then downgrade) and even if you could, the drivers would be a problem. The finger reader, the touch screen and the lightScribe features are quite hard to install. Even HP being the most linux-friendly manufacturer, you will have some problems trying to install all features.
Even tho, I loved the notebook, it comes with a multi-media remote control that fits perfectly in the pc express card slot and a lot of other small features.
Dont buy if you want a Tablet PC By A2BIXDMK69BI3N on 2008-03-10
Dont let the title fool you. I like this laptop. I have several HP laptops. The problem with this little guy is the heat and weight. This does not have much effect when using it as a normal laptop but as a tablet its just too hot to hold. The unit runs 10-20 degrees hotter when in the tablet mode. The next problem is the weight. The average person is not going to be able to hold it in one arm for any length of time.
I have both AMD and Intel laptops. Let me put it this way. My HP 2.2Ghz Core Dual Pro runs faster and much cooler than the HP with the 2.4Ghz. I almost run this laptop in battery saver mode (800Mhz) to keep the temps down. If you run the laptop under full load at 2.4Ghz it will get too hot to hold in your hand.
All these things said. I have to say that I love the keyboard. I am a writer and find that I will use this laptop over my larger dv9500. I also like the way the mouse pad is part of the case. Its just a real pleasure to write on.
Love it except... By A3NY7XGYUOU86G on 2008-02-19
There are many things that I like about this computer, however there is one feature that I was really looking forward to that is not available. I am very disappointed that with Windows Vista and the updated version of Outlook Express called Windows Email that I can not open Windows Email and use the "pen" AKA "stylis" to write a note and email my hand written notes and "doodles" exactly as I see them. This feature was available with XP and an older version of Outlook Express.
The handwriting recognition software that converts your handwriting to text does work, so for example I can open a new email, use the pen to write my email and it is converted to text -- but I don't always want to convert, there are times that I would like to be able to add a free hand circle or an arrow or an eye catching note in my own hand writing - so that business associates and friends can see my diagrams and notes exactly as I wrote them -- and that is not something that can be done with this system.
I've called H.P., Microsoft and searched high and low for a work around, a software download - a solution - to no avail.
There are other brands of computers where you can open, jot down a note and send it as is... I've received emails from friends and business associates using tablet notebooks who are able to send notes like that.
I wish that I had paid a little more attention before purchasing this brand of tablet laptop - if I had I would have purchased another brand.
Great Laptop! By A2WT1H9FGIB9ME on 2008-03-08
FIRST: Vista. Yes, it is a crappy OS we know that. This is a very smart buy because if you uy a 4GB unit vista will only see 3 of it...that was a major influence in my getting this unit. Next: it runs vista smoothly which is remarkable. NEXT: If you have a 64 bit processor running in a 32 bit environment it just treats it as 2 32 bit processors - thus not a waste. Now: This is not the first laptop I have had but it definitely the best! the initial set-up doesn't take long at all. There is NOT MUCH BLOAT WARE!!! which is a big plus over sony and toshiba. I work on the road virtually 100% of the time and I'm a full time online student. This laptop is small enough to use in the truck while at work or traveling and it has the power to compete with the desktop replacements. I can already tell it will be with me for the long haul. The fingerprint reader is great and the touch pad is ok..I have a bluetooth mouse which work flawlessly with it. The rotatable screen is also a very nice touch. The only problem and and why it gets 4 instead of five stars is the battery life. The battery lasts about 2.5-3 hours i power saving mode. Though this can be resolved buy purchasing the 8-cell battery directly from HP. Props to HP for finally making a machine light on the bloat and big on power. It also comes with headphones and a remote control which store in the express card slot. The bottom line: Price for power is right because you get so much more. BUY IT
So Far So Good! By A1OB132QXHBSGN on 2008-02-21
Amazon service as always: excellent and beyond.
About the tx1410us,
Pros: light, small and fast. A cool looking laptop with tablet pc features that you won't find at this price.
Cons: a lot of unnecessary HP software (that can be removed). It gets pretty hot after running for a while (especially on the top right corner).
Conclusion: right choice if you are looking for a nice little notebook and don't want to expend $1,500 and up.
- Great Laptop, Great Price, Wonderfull Performance!
     By AFW9G6UO762PR on 2008-02-11
Just the best laptop! Great performance, design and price! I'm very happy with this product. I don't understand why some people says that isn't the best Tablet PC of the market!!! They're must be crazy!!!
- blurry screen
     By A18WSN91HBVATN on 2008-03-11
great and neat and everything, but the screen is so small and blurry cuz of the tablet... it's hard to see... returned it cuz the tablet screen gave me headachs... sort of like motion sickness
- A "Hot little computer"
     By A15TTA33WLL324 on 2008-03-18
Great shipping and handling from Amazon, but dissapointed with the heat built-up and exhaust, make it hot to handle. The exit in the right rear corner is easily blocked and the screen quality is pretty bad for such a upper scale micro computer.I guess I'm use to the crystal screen of my Acer ,plus the stylus don't work well with the notepad.
- Great Size with some issues
     By A3US4FN94QI0K5 on 2008-05-06
I bought this because it seems like the perfect laptop (touchscreen, webcam, mouse, dual core ,fingerprint ,tiny monitor, tablet , super protable)
So it lives up to all that beautifully. However this is the reality of owning one.
EXPECT IT TO BE SLOW
After wondering why it was so slow, I bought 4gb of ram (very expensive to buy and install 2 new sticks ). Vista dosen't even recognize more than 3!
Turns out I didn't need the RAM all I needed was to get it out of Balanced Power. So of course I put it on performance. It was still slow ( to me). I have not figured out how to speed it up. It's slow in word, photoshop, everything! Not sure if AMD is to blame here but this is my #1 complaint!!!!!!!!!!
EXPECT IT TO BE HOT. VERY HOT. YOU CAN FRY AN EGG ON IT.
I use a blanket and it keeps me warm at night when I'm on it ( All jokes aside, this is the honest truth, this thing can launch a rocket into space it's so hot)
HUMOUNGOUSLY RIDONKULOUS POWER SUPPLY
I'm not a fan. I bought it to NOT have to lugg around a bung of humoungous contraptions. Big loss in points. You cannot buy a small bag because of the big powersupply. Not cool.
WEBCAM? WHAT WEBCAM?
Okay, if you expect to launch your webcam easily, Good luck! I had to do a google search to figure out it was nested DEEEEP within the VERY SLOW to launch Media Center. This means less YouTube covers from me.. by the time it loads and so on you're already half asleep from boredom. The one good thing they did was give us a button on the screen to launch it with but that only save's one second. I would prefer a stand-alone webcam app.
IT FORGETS FINGERPRNITS
Slightly annoying but not major. It may forget fingerprints and you have to re-enroll once in a while. Not a big deal but when you're used to it and then all of a sudden it doesn't work you have to start typing your password and believe me once you've been spoilt by swiping it's not such a fun thing to start typing passwords again.
SPEAKERS? WHAT SPEAKERS?
Sadly, the speakers suck. I saw this myself in some reviews but ignored it and it is SO true. Not sure why they're so bad. I think HP could have done better here. Do not get this if you intend to "blast" anything. There is no way you can surf YouTube and watch TV or have any noise in the background at all. Expect to use headset and even then you may have to stop breathing to hear..
HUGE BATTERY
I could have done withot the humoungous battery. As big as it is it doesn't hold much power anyway so I'ld rather a smaller more compact batter that was more in keeping with the portability of the laptop itself.
ONE GOOD THING IS THE CASING
I love the outside, inside, everything.. I really do love the laptio just wish it was fast and not so hot )
If you choose to buy, you won't regret it but just be aware. Hopefully you enjoy the good stuff I mentioned more than hate the annoying stuff.
- Astonishing
     By A29KLGWC2EG6S6 on 2008-03-11
This notebook is far beyond expected. Amazon service & delivery was great as always and the best price found on the market after weeks of searching.
Great gadgets, the remote control with WV media center is great feature partnered with the S-video tv-out.
Got all the hardware you need for great performance. (250GB HD, 2GB RAM, DVD-RW, Dual TL-64 Turion proc.)
Tablet PC is great, get MS One Note to have full features of this interesting tool, if not use it to web browse in vertical position while lying down on bed.
Misdemeanor is a lot of HP software that is not useful and makes your laptop slower "get rid of it" and the big but not durable 6-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
Great ports and useful pen hideout, as well as DVD-RW with lightscribe feature.
With all in hand the best Thin&Light laptop in the market (plus tablet features) and all the hardware needed to have great performance.
- This laptop gets very hot an blurry
     By A297F73FRVU0L2 on 2008-03-13

- Pleasure
     By A1YKN7K31XVSU5 on 2008-05-28
I thinked a lot before purchasing a Laptop, it took me 2 months reviews and finally I decided for this one.
Everything in this Laptop is perfect, yes it heats little more than my previous but it is fast and it doesnt create any problems on whatever you do in it, like playing, my brother does that a lot but doesnt effect on it. i loaded the hard drive to maximum and it still performed fast. I waited two months to create a review and i tried everything in him.
it came up that its tuff to,:)
The only minor problem it have is:
In the begining when you install updates the cam will not work properly,
but you cam fix it in 2 min at device manager.
Have fun, :)
- Ok for the price
     By A87DUHCSHQ4B0 on 2008-03-24
Best value for a tablet pc at that price, but gets very hot on the lap, also the pen got jamed from day 1. Hp sends it with lots of rubbish, its actually very slow, slower than my XP on my toshiba from 2 yrs ago. had to remove a lot to make it faster. If your in ned of a tablet, this is the best price and function, if not go for the XPS or Toshiba 13.3. I like the remote control a lot though, nice for presentations.
- Wish i had read this before i bought it....
     By A12KMVNX8V3PHR on 2008-06-26
This computer is really slow... My 2.0 ghz run a lot faster...
For some reason I can not use wireless to conect, and when i can is a an extremely slow speed! After contacting HP service for over 2 hours is still the same...
Due to the high requirements of windows vista, the computer video is really slow, and often crashes.
I wish i didnt buy this computer...

- Excellent Product!
     By ADLWLM3CGKWM9 on 2008-04-17
This laptop met all my expectations and then some. This is lightweight powerfull and is extremely fast. You can carry this around the house with the WIFI and not struggle to carry it. This unit stays relatively cool compared to past laptops. The VeriSoft fingerprint/password storage software is top notch. I love it! Don`t pass this one up.
