Mannequin & Mannequin 2: On the Movex$7.25
    (115 reviews)
Best Price: $7.25
Disc 1: MANNEQUIN Disc 2: MANNEQUIN 2 ON THE MOVE (1991) Mannequin Mannequin is notionally a romantic comedy in which Andrew McCarthy plays a luckless department-store employee and Kim Cattrall ( Sex and the City) is an Egyptian princess reincarnated as a shop-window dummy, who comes to life when she encounters McCarthy, only to revert to mannequin status when anyone else is watching her. With her encouragement, he becomes emboldened in his career as a window decorator as well as falling in love with the princess. James Spader's oily, stammering executive is just one of the many examples of a film that tries way too hard to be funny, the sort of characterization that would be barely adequate for a TV commercial, let alone a 90-minute movie. Still, for fans of Sex and the City who might want to feast upon the spectacle of a younger Kim Cattrall, Mannequin might offer a measure of relief. --David Stubbs Mannequin 2: On the Move Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you... The lyrics to "Young at Heart" could be the theme song for this, well, enchanting 1991 light teen comedy, a sequel to Mannequin. Kim Cattrall was the store window statue-come-to-life of the first film, and Kristy Swanson, pre-Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and is a natural for this sweet fable of a handsome prince breaking a centuries-old spell that trapped our sweet heroine in plastic. Fans of the more recent Enchanted will find much to like in the story of Jessie (Swanson) who, was cursed back in the old country to be a statue. Then department store employee Jason (William Ragsdale) removes the necklace from the mannequin that had cemented the curse, bringing Jessie back to life in a whole new world, which includes Meshach Taylor, reprising his role from the first film as reliable comic relief. Swanson is charming as the dewy-eyed princess, taking in the modern world alongside her true love, who's adorably bewildered--while slowly, just like audiences, becoming enchanted himself. --A.T. 5 stars for the film 2 for the DVD By AKDXXW89ZLCJS on 2001-10-26
I give them 2 stars for finally releasing this gem on DVD but no extras?? This film is delightful and refreshing, Leonard Maltin obviously was having a bad day when he saw this film. I must have seen it 6 or more times when it was in the theaters. Kim Catrall(Sex in the City) is delightfully coy and silly as well as charming in this comedy about an ancient princess with a too modern outlook and is "cursed" to live through thousands of years until she finds a love who can appreciate her for who she is and not try and control her. Andrew McCarthy(Pretty in Pink) is wonderful as a failed sculptist who cannot keep a job until he gets a job working as a window dresser at a failing dept store in Philadelphia. Great co-stars Estelle Getty(Golden Girls), Mesach(sp?) Taylor(Designing Women), James Spader(Stargate the movie) and others make this film a hysterical and romantic romp!
cute romantic comedy By ABH4G7TVI6G2T on 2002-09-04
MANNEQUIN is a cute romantic comedy from the era that style forgot...the 80's. The film features a gorgeous pre-"Sex and the City" Kim Cattrall as the titular character.Jonathan Switcher (Andrew McCarthy) is a frustrated artist, living from crummy job to crummy job, and coming to the end of a rocky relationship with the ... Roxie (Carole Davis). When kindly Claire Timkin (Estelle Getty - TV's "The Golden Girls") gives him a job at her floundering department store, he is re-united with his favorite project, a gorgeous blonde mannequin. When the mannequin comes alive and declares that she is Emmy, an Egyptian maiden from over 1,000 years before (played by Kim Cattrall), he is more than a little amazed. With Emmy's help, he re-invents the department store as a cutting-edge fashion centre and finds the love of his life. The film also features Meshach Taylor (TV's "Designing Women") as Jonathan's flamboyant assistant Hollywood, and also stars James Spader, G.W. Bailey, Stephen Vinovich and Christopher Maher. The DVD includes both fullscreen and widescreen versions of the film as well as the trailer and DVD trailers for "The Princess Bride: Special Edition" and "Fiddler on the Roof: Special Edition". (Double-sided, single-layer disc).
Nothings gonna stop me from loving this movie forever By A3MFGOKZO3CH63 on 2000-12-19
Laugh if you must, but this film is one of my all time favorite films. I saw it in the theater, twice, when I was eleven year of age, then rented it about a million times (on BETA!) when it came out on video. Yes, I know it is cheesy and not a work of art, but it is a CUTE movie that I loved at eleven and continue to love at twenty-five.Maybe I'm just a romantic at heart, but films where two people who find each other to spite all odds make me feel good. Movies like this make you believe in romance, and even a pescimist like myself needs to believe in some kind of hope and love. Now with Kim Cattrall's fame being skyrocketted with Sex And The City I'm hoping more people will discover what a great movie this really is. Most of Kims are, I've seen a lot of them (even the early ones which are beyond scary...and then there's Porkys...) Also, one must not forget that even with all the bad reviews this film recieved, it made a lot of money at the box office and on video and even spawned a sequal; (which was pretty bad, but still cool to see nonetheless)not to mention the fact that it was nominated for an Academy Award in 1988 (for Best Original Song but STILL :) This is also a good movie to watch when you want to see some great actors early works, such as James Spader, and it also let you see what Estelle Getty looked like when she wasn't in a lot of makeup playing Sophia Patrillo on "The Golden Girls"; not to mention Mesach Taylor who doesn't seem to be doing that much acting now, but did appear in the sequal and Designing Women for the extent of it's run. In the end, every movie has it's devoted fans and I'm one of them.
And They Call It...Dummy Love! By on 2000-04-07
I've loved "Mannequin" from the first moment I saw it back when it was released in 1987! It's actually been a couple of years since I viewed it last time on cable, but I've just received my own copy yesterday so I can once again relive the indelible magic, hilarity, and romance this wacky, wonderful, feel-good film delivers! Andrew McCarthy is terrific as Jonathan Switcher, a shy, genial, struggling dept. store mannequin artist who shares an unusual, brandishing romance with Emmy (Kim Cattral), a reincarnated Egyptian princess whose spirit inhabits one of Jonathan's wooden creations and comes magically to life whenever he's alone with her. Meshach Taylor (of "Designing Women" fame) brings cheery warmth to the story as Jonathan's festive window assistant friend, Hollywood. From start to finish, this underrated comedy will make you laugh, cry, and wonder if true love can ever be so magically fun and special, no matter if you're a guy or a girl! Jonathan definitely shines through for me in that nice guys don't always have to finish last. Plus, Starship's classic Oscar-nominated song is an absolutely perfect touch to the sweet canvas this film paints for its audience. I'm surprised how cumbersome it was to find "Mannequin" in print in recent years, but thank goodness it has finally been re-released & Amazon has it! This is one film no hopeless romantic or 80's nostalgist should be without...
Guilty Pleasure from the 80s By A2MRZG8QC3W157 on 2002-03-26
In an era where big hair, ripped jeans, and bad movies were the norm, Mannequin simply shines. While not especially noteworthy as a film, it becomes memorable for the fact that it's not as stupid as most films in the 80s were. The movie manages to remain charming and fun all the way through due to the eccentricty of its characters and good acting. Cattrall and McCarthy are the strongest in this movie, and they manage to make you forget reality for a little while. Cattrall's enthusiasm and innocence is well-balanced by McCarthy's skepticism and good humor, and they pull the viewer into the simple and often silly plot of an ancient Egyptian princess reborn as a mannequin who happens to fall in love with her maker who now works as a department store window dresser and the two have a Calvin and Hobbes-like relationship (Cattrall only comes to life when alone with McCarthy). However, the most memorable character is Hollywood, the flamboyently gay and hysterical window dresser played by Meshach Taylor (Anthony from Designing Women). Charming, simple, and fun, this is a great flick to put on the TV on a friday night while hanging out with friends or just that special someone.
- Fluffy 80's Fun
     By A2HI7DLWKY4QFK on 2003-01-02
Those of you out there looking for a horribly deep movie won't bother with Mannequin, of course. My boyfriend laughs at me for stating it's one of my favorite movies of all time, but heck, what does he know? It's campy, it's corny, it's oh-so-dated, but it's hilariously fun. 'Mannequin' is the story of an Egyptian princess (neat concept played fluffily well by Kim Cattrall) that is cursed to become a Mannequin unless she's in the presence of the person she chooses to reveal herself to. Andrew McCarthy is Jonathan, a down-on-his luck stockboy that's got a chance to make something of himself by helping decorate the storefront windows in a failing department store in NYC. That's where Cattrall's mannequin Emmy steps in, and the two fall in love (come on, you knew they would). The fun thing about this movie is that it's chock full of 80's goodness. I'm not just talking the clothes or the music (though those are great too), I'm talking about the actors as well. Not only do you have 80's king Andrew McCarthy, but we have James Spader playing the slimy manager of a competing store, and GW Bailey (from the Police Academy movies) playing a slightly off-kilter security guard. Meschach Taylor almost steals the entire movie away with his portrayal of Hollywood Henderson, a flamboyant gay man with strange eyeglasses and a penchant to cry at the thought of True Love. It's fun and fluffy overall, but it's entertaining. Those of you that saw it in the 80's will love the walk down memory lane. My only complaint (and why it didn't get 5 stars from me) is that the DVD is rather cheap. Cheap box, and zero extras. My advice is that if you just want it for a one time viewing, get the VHS. If you want it to add to your DVD collection, then get the DVD, because it's fairly reasonably priced.

"Mannequin" is one of those movies where critics completely raked it over hot coals because the premise of the film is too silly but was a box office hit. Although an artistic bomb, I loved "Mannequin". I saw it in the theatre back in 1987. Still love it to this very day.
Andrew McCarthy plays Jonathan Switcher, a starving artist who moves from one job to another aimlessly because he focuses too muchon creating artwork as opposed to simply doing his job. One of his jobs was putting together mannequins for department stores. Before being let go, Jonathan finally creates his masterpiece. A few jobs later he comes across the same mannequin at his latest job working for Claire Prince Timkins(Estelle Getty). The mannequin comes to life as Ema 'Emmy' Hesire (played by a young Kim Cattral). Sparks immediately flies between the two. The only catch is that Jonathan can only see her while everyone else can see her only as a mannequin. The premise is silly but harmless. James Spader played the same smarmy, oily character as he usually does in a lot of his films (which is a good thing) as Mr. Richards, the head of the employment dept. at the store. G.W Bailey as Capt. Felix Maxwell was hilarious with his dogs Rambo I and II but the showstealer here was Meschach Taylor as the flamboyant Hollywood Montrose with his over the top sunglasses. He was hysterical. My favorite moment in the film was when Jonathan took Emmy out on his motorcycle and they pass an elderly couple in a car, not to mention the car chase when Felix and Mr. Richards pursues the pair. "Mannequin" may not be high art but I love this film.
- Nothing's Going to Stop This Movie From Being a Classic!!
     By A3RYIN4KHLR3Y1 on 2002-11-12
This is yet one of my favorite romantic comedy movies of the 80's. With such stars as Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall (Sex in the City), Estell Getty (Golden Girls), James Spader, G.W. Bailey (Police Academy), and Meshach Taylor (Designing Women). It's about a man Jonathan Switcher who isn't having much luck job wise (Who is these days), until he creates his masterpiece Mannequin, and finds her while working at a new job at Prince in Company (A failing store). She comes to life and tells him that she was born many years and centuries ago in Egypt, together they build magnificent store windows that helps Prince in Company get more than back on their feet. However, another rival company is trying to get their business back and by what ever means possible. As well as stealing Emmy (the Mannequin) to get Jonathan to work for them. I think this classic romantic comedy is still a hit today with great colorful characters such as Hollywood, the quirky cop, and the romantic story line between Emmy (Kim Cattrall) and the handsome Jonathan (Andrew McCarthy). Let's not forget the hit song by Starship called "Nothing's Going to Stop Us." Everyone today will love this movie. Even though its corney as well as it's storyline Mannequin will be a classic 80's film throughout the years. The DVD is pretty average it has a trailer and a few other related movie trailers. I was hopping it would have the music video for "Nothing's Going to Stop Us" but no such luck. A huge plus is that it has a Widescreen or Fullscreen choice. So it makes up for all of the stuff it doesn't have.So I would give the movie A and the DVD a C! But it is still worth the buy for this movie and if your a DVD collector. :)
- Truly romantic, and the perfect modern day fairy-tale
     By A3L46ZRKNFN0SG on 2000-03-24
This movie was one I had seen sometime when I was a kid, and now that I'm older, it's pretty interesting! I'm a kid born in the 80's who wished it would never end, and this has the perfect chemistry. The fact of Johnathan making a Mannequin who assumes the form of Emmy, an Egyptian Princess when he's alone is awesome. The story takes something that I've loved and found in japanese animation and stories: an unlucky in love guy through some form of magic or surreal circumstances finds the girl of his dreams. Of course, we have our bad guys who try to break them up. In this one, Emmy is kidnapped and as if she were the damsel in distress, Jonathan comes to her rescue with the aid of Hollywood, probably the coolest homosexual actor on screen: the major comic relief. The soundtrack is awesome, and now I'm trying to find it. As well, Kim Cattrell is great, and her acting with Andrew McCArthy is believable, that you don't think of them as actors. The crew they must have found to make mannequins resembling Cattrell is great, and makes good use of low-tech effects. If you go to a store or need something to rent that is pretty good, here's your answer. P.S. Do not see Mannequin 2. As far as I'm concerned, that one doesn't exist.
- Are you kidding me?
     By A84U4EWQ42W3H on 2001-12-21
What a waste of marketing and production dollars. Was there anyone who rented Mannequin on VHS in the last five years who thought "Gosh, this movie would be so much better in digital widescreen"? Could be worse, I guess. It could come bundled with Mannequin 2.
- What can I say? A guilty pleasure!
     By A1WOSY3R3RXNNP on 2001-11-23
Yes, I am openly and willingly admitting to watching and liking this movie!! Okay so what if it's just a silly comedy and an 80's one at that?? It's fun, entertaining, and a lot of laughs. And Estelle Getty is in it!! Hello?! Sophia Petrillo?! Golden Girls anyone? It's everything a comedy should be, simple, funny, and entertaining for a bit.
- A heart warming family classic! Erm, to bad about the DVD
     By A17D6T2CC6E0W7 on 2001-12-30
I gave this DVD 5 stars as it is one of my favourite movies. But as an actual DVD release there isn't really anything special. Its just the movie I love finally put onto a DVD. Obviously, it is great quality. But I was dissapointed as there were no special features. I'd still recomend buying this DVD if you enjoy the movie itself! I really don't care what people say about this, its a classic. And one of my favourites.
- Hey, shut up -- I love this movie.
     By A1ZI39BA3KWE1S on 2004-01-29
I am a total sucker for Kim Cattrall. Porky's, Big Trouble in Little China, Turk 182 -- I've seen 'em all, man, and if there's an actress who more personifies the films of the 80's, I'll eat my hat. In that sense, "Mannequin" is Cattrall's swan song, as it is quite possibly the most ludicrous thing ever committed to film. Showcasing an unexpected all-star cast (Andrew McCarthy, Estelle Getty, James Spader, Meshaque Taylor, G.W. Bailey) "Mannequin" relates that age-old story we all know so well: Boy Meets Girl, Boy Loses Girl, Boy Builds New Girl Out Of Spare Parts.Jonathan Switcher (McCarthy) is an impossibly flaky artist who can't seem to hold down a paying job for more than ten minutes. At one place of employment, he sculpts his dream girl in the form of a mannequin; unbeknownst to him, he is reforming the body of a four-thousand year old Egyptian princess in fiberglass. A serendipitous mishap lands him a job at a local department store, where (coincidentally) his living doll also happens to end up -- and one night, he discovers her magical secret. Of course, it is only Switcher who can see her in the flesh, which leads to a series of embarassing mishaps with... ...oh, who the Hell am I kidding? I refuse to sit here and type sycophantic drivel like a complete tool. This movie is retarded. I can't hide the fact with lauding praises for the decade's Reaganomic-influenced Hollywood excapisms or that amazingly phat electro soundtrack by Sylvester Levay of "Three O'Clock High" fame -- it's a stupid film and that's that. I LOVE THIS STUPID FILM AND I AM NOT ASHAMED. There, I said it. I feel better.
- DID YOU KNOW....
     By A3LM3JC3AB6MUA on 2004-08-03
It's hard to believe little "Emmy" from this movie grew up to be "Samantha" on Sex & the City. Brat packer Andrew McCarthy ...whatever happened to him? A little bit of trivia for ya---NO SOUNDTRACK was ever released because the movie big shots didn't think the movie would do all that well at the box office. STARSHIP'S song NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW was released as a single on 45 because it was so popular. Sadly, the other songs in the movie, BELINDA CARLISE'S IN MY WILDEST DREAMS was never released & ALISHA'S DO YOU DREAM ABOUT ME was only available on her 1987 solo album which is now out of print. In 2007 will be its 20th anniversary since the movie was released. You'd think they'd rerelease it on DVD or put out a soundtrack.
- For the nostalgia crowd only
     By on 2002-06-22
If you remember this movie fondly from when you were younger, fine. Whatever floats your boat. We all have guilty pleasures of some kind. For anyone else, in case all these other good reviews have you fooled, this is a bad movie. Really bad. It was assembled out of used parts in the Stock 80's Romantic Comedy Factory. Even if you're comfortable with the absurd premise (Weird Science without the science), the plot is completely transparent, and within 10 minutes you will foresee every single thing that happens in this movie. Of course, there have been comedies that have been really funny even though the premise and the plot were old hat. But this movie just isn't very funny either, and that's what dooms it. The "humor" is primarily comprised of weak, obvious situation comedy moments. Kim Cattrall is a pretty decent comedienne, but Andrew McCarthy is one of the worst actors who's ever been allowed to be the lead in a major studio release. Worse than Keanu. Almost as bad as Chris O'Donnell. If anyone doubts me, go rent Less Than Zero and note how he completely destroys that movie by playing exactly the same guy he plays in every movie he's ever been in, even though the role calls for something completely different. Like some actual acting. If, for some reason, you think Andrew McCarthy is really charming and witty, you'll probably like this movie. But for anyone else, avoid it like Sorority Boys 2.
- A live mannequin
     By A1IKOYZVFHO1XP on 2004-05-27
Andrew McCarthy, back in 1986 when he was a teen idol,co-starred with Kim Cattrall in this hysterical romance film. Jonathan Switcher(McCarthy) has held, but not for long, various jobs. Some of those jobs only lasted a few hours! But that all changed when Jonathan came to a department store and found his main superior,a late 50ish-early 60ish woman, very sweet and loving. He did everything at the store. He was a sales clerk, manager and even a security guard. At the store,in one of the ladies' departments,he discovers a beautiful female mannequin who comes alive. Cattrall,is the mannequin named Emmy. She even becomes the girl of his dreams! Jonathan couldn't be happier. Another security guard(G.W. Bailey) finds Jonathan pretending the mannequin is a real woman and romancing it. To everyone except Jonathan until the final scene,Emmy is an "it". James Spader plays one of Jonathan's immediate supervisors. Steve Vinovich is the store's president. Jonathan had broken up with his pre-Emmy girlfriend. So the girlfriend and her new boyfriend spy on Jonathan in the store and with a camera. Jonathan and Emmy are riding a motorcycle in one scene in formal apparel, with Jonathan operating the vehicle. Everyone else observes the "it" behind Jonathan on the bike. Jonathan almost lost Emmy to a trash incinerator in operation. The shoes she wore were destroyed by the incinerator. Bailey's and Vinovich's characters were taken into police custody after committing some kind of devious crime. The surveillance camera caught them in the act. It was then when the mannequin "died" and "was reincarnated as" a real woman. In the final scene,we see Jonathan and Emmy tying the knot. The featured song is "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now",recorded by Starship. Bailey and Cattrall previously appeared in 1984's POLICE ACADEMY.

I watched this movie a long time ago and it has always been my favourite. Its such a romantic movie and makes one wonder if love could be as wonderful as the movie depicts. The movie has a great theme song "Nothing's gonna stop us now". And i say "Nothing's gonna to stop me" from watching again, but this time with someone i love.
- Why are this movie's defenders so apologetic?!
     By A25A0MJV5TXDR8 on 2000-12-11
You have to wonder about a movie's worth when its defenders keep telling us up front that it's not a "classic." What they really mean is, this movie bites but we have no taste. (Oh, I didn't mean the pun.)Some movies are made with what seems like both the filmmaker's eyes focused on the film itself (say, Bergman, Antonioni) -- art over commerce. Some with what seems like one eye on the audience (Coppola, Chaplin) -- an artist appealing to the masses. And some with both eyes on the audience, forsaking art and credibility for box office (see the end of "Jaws," when Dreyfuss's character, for no other possible reason, survives). "Mannequin," on the other hand, not only has both eyes on its audience; it gets down off the screen and kneels between the audience's legs. This is one desperate -- and desperately unfunny -- movie. (And I mean, come on -- a Kim Cattrall movie and we don't even get to see any full frontal nudity!)
- Another 1987 Movie i Like!
     By AAI57M3OXP5NK on 2002-07-01
Mannequin was a movie I grew up with and i just fell in love with. i don't even know why but I will always love Mannequin. Mannequin stars Andrew McCarthy and despite what the other reviewer says I think he's a pretty good actor. It also stars Estelle Getty from the Golden Girls and Mescach Taylor from Designing Women, they were both hysterical! Anyways I like this movie no matter what anyone says.
- One of 10 worst movies I have ever seen
     By A2FS38D943KX12 on 2003-04-25
Simply put, this is a terrible terrible movie, stupid beyond words. I had to sit through this in the theatre, and would have walked out if I hadn't been with a group. I really resent that this movie robbed me of about 2 hours of life that I can never get back.Idiotic premise, acting that can charitably be described as "disengaged," and characters that range from annoying to downright offensive (how Meshach can look at himself in the mirror is beyond me). What's not to hate? I have heard that "Mannequin 2" was even worse. God help us all if that is in fact true. You could not pay me enough to watch this movie again. I wouldn't even want a copy of this movie in my home. If I could burn every copy of this movie on the planet and expunge it from our collective memory, I would happily do it. Anybody who pays money for this movie needs professional help, in my opinion.
- I don't care what the critics say....
     By A17TETAMLNV6Q8 on 2004-08-22
This is among my very most favorite movies... despite what the critics had to say about it. It provided plenty of action, commedy, and the music score was second to none. OK, so the premise is a little odd... but it was at least an imaginative modification of "The Frog Prince". This particular "frog", Emmy, played aptly by Kim Cattral, was an rescued from an unwanted arranged marriage in ancient Egypt, and reincarnated several times over the centuries. She eventually ends up in 1980's America as a mannequin that no one other than Jonathan, the male lead, can see as a living woman. She turns back into a mannequin if anyone else looks at her. It ends up developing into a love story of sorts, and ends... well, I won't give away the entire story. One item that I found especially noteworthy is that when Emmy is given the precious gift of life, the very first thing she does when she realizes it is to look to Heavens and thank the gods (Emmy was polytheistic remember). We should all take that attitude when Good Things happen to us. I guess the polytheistic bend is what got it past the atheistic Hollywood censors. This is also quite possibly what got the bad reviews. God forbid that a supreme being be credited for anything!

Sometimes even I get tired of chasing the ladies - and you know how much I love the ladies - and I find myself watching this film and wishing that I could get it together with a nice shop dummy who comes to life every now and again. I could keep her in a cupboard.
- 1 Star is pushing it!
     By on 1999-05-14
Those words pretty much sum it up for this turkey of 80's film making. To be fair there were really not very many good comedies during the 80's, (only 2 were Ghostbusters and the Breakfast club), but this movie was a rock bottom. While there is nothing wrong with a fantasy of a mannquin coming to life for the person who created her-it belongs in a childrens fairy tale! If not for Kim Cattrall being as wildly attractive as she was in this movie I might never have been able to get all the way through it. Part two I have not seen nor do I have any desire to!
- mannequin is loads of fun, and spawned a fairy tale sequel.

ok its 1987, kim cattral (emmy\emma hezeray) is an egyptian princess that asks the gods to help her find a time that is right for her. so she goes through many different centuries and time and finally comes to 1987 as a mannequin. Andrew McCarthy (jonothan switcher)is going through one of his numerous jobs and happens to be working in a mannquin factory and puts emmy together. He then gets a job as a window dresser in the department store (prince and company)where emmy a mannequin has now been placed. she can only come to life in front of jonothan, because she chose him. they fall in love, eventually te gods allowed her to come alive in front of andy the clerk from illustra because she was almost shredded w other manequins and so she came to life so she could grab on to jonothans arm and help him pull her up from the shredding machine. They get married and (nothing's gonna stop them now.) also the sequel to this movie which is called (mannequin two on the move1991)was also good(medival fairytale about peasant maid who is turned into mannequin for a thousand years by evil sorceror because she and (prince william of hauptmankoenig)fell in love\basically same plot as first one except she can't come alive until the window dressor jason williamson who is actually the prince reincarnated, takes off the neckalace that holds the curse since he is her true love.) the sequel stars kristy swanson(the original buffy the vampire slayer) and william ragsdale from(the fright night films.) both movies ar excellnt and just filled with 80's and early 90's fun. these are must see films.
- A Sexual Vanilla Sky for the Thinking Man
     By A3985HDFULZBFK on 2004-09-12
"You are one...sick...puppy!" indeed.
A taut psychological thriller, "Mannequin" is a whirlwhind decent of one man further into his mind and into madness. Obsessed with Egyptian motifs, the man finds sexual release only in dry humping the piece of wood in his store only to spite James Spader. Brilliant. His conflicted sexuality manifests not only in the hallucinations of the alive mannequin, but also in his eccentric homosexual "friend," Hollywood. It is this "Designing Women" star that really "brought the movie to life," so to speak; the thoroughness of the main character's fake persona's coming to life couldn't be made more convincing. And the ironic denounment is filled with carefully planted clues by director Michael Gottlieb all to be answered in his "Mannequin 2."
Though I do agree with one view who said, "This movie would be gooder with Michael J. Fox," there isn't much any human being could create to thrilling climax on the mannequin-destroying-machine. I recommend this product with a proud five stars, even though I am personally holding off the for 20th anniversay DVD edition, if only so the director's commentary can finally answer the unanswered questions. I'm hoping that Andrew McCarthy discusses how to make such magic with a mannequin and how to keep things cool with a hot dame like Kim "I Had Sex With the Whole City" Cattrall as well. We too would never interrupt him when he's "getting a piece of wood," as the irrepressible Hollywood put it.
Perhaps Sight and Sound shall lift its moratorium against "Mannequin" or "Mannequin 2" in next decade's top ten list.

A fantastic family flick about true love travelling through the ages-literally!
Kim Catrell(Sex and the City, Police Academy) stars in this fun-filled adventure as an egyptian princess born in the wrong time period with a knack for adventure and a nose for trouble, she sets her sights beyond her days and travels the earth for one thousand years searching for her place.
Andrew McCarthey(St. Elmo's Fire, Pretty in Pink) costars as a misfit artist struggling to exist in modern day capitalist world. entering and re-entering the work force, McCarthey finally lands a job as a window dresser for the once-famed, now failing Prince and Company. order is destroyed and sparks fly as he is reunited with his best creation, a mannequin, or so he thinks, until Catrell inhabits the mannequins form as her portal to a new time period. These star crossed lovers paint the town red, and throw societal norms out the window in their pursuit of hapiness with one another.
an all around classic..... one question though,
WHERE'S THE MOVIE'S SOUNDTRACK???
probably one of the best 80's flicks every created and the soundtrack is phenomenal to boot, but was never released with such hits as: Alisha's "Do you dream about me?", and Belinda Carlisle's "In my Wildest Dreams"
these classics need to be restored and re-released, or furthermore, released for the first time.
this is a true travesty people.
anyway, hope you love the flick as much as I did-Movie Matrix
- A fun, upbeat movie that doesn't fit some reviewers' niches

This is one of my favorite fun movies to watch when I'm in the right mood. It's not Casablanca, but it has fun, quirky, memorable characters and a heartwarming plot and conclusion.
It's also one of Kim Cattrall's (Star Trek VI, Sex and the CIty) earlier appearances, and takes great advantage of her ability to be impish.
If you are looking for a movie that fits the "romantic comedy" niche defined by Meg Ryan, you may find this movie too quirky and not mushy enough for you. If you are looking for a high-fantasy movie with careful detailed continuity, you may want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for lowbrow slapstick like the Police Academy movies, you won't find as much of it as you might think from the cast names.
If you are excessively politically correct - say, you hated the funny Indian accented guy in Short Circuit - you will find plenty to complain about in this film too.
But if you still have a sense of fun and the ability to relax and suspend disbelief, you may also find this among your favorite movies, and want a copy to watch when you are in an impish mood.
- My Girlfriend Said She Used To Date Dummies Until She Met Me!!!

In this movie we see Andrew McCarthy who plays Jonathon, a frustrated artist. Then he gets a job as a Window Dresser in a Department Store and brings back to life a 1000 year old Egyptian played very well by Kim Cattrall (pre Sex In The City Era). This movie is corny and dumb but in fact is actually a lot of fun to watch as Kim and Andrew try to conceal their relationship from the other store employees. I give this movie 5 stars because it is quite an enjoyable Romantic Comedy and for once Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock are nowhere to be seen.
- Magnificent Mannequin!

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, epecially the 10-minute 1980s-intro to the movie. Its two main characters are Andrew McCarthy (from Pretty in Pink) and Kim Cattrall (before SATC). Though it is a corny movie, it appeals to both girls AND guys. And, of course, it includes the typical fantastic music montage.

Oh this old movie!! My sisters and I would watch this on at least a weekly basis when we were young. We didn't get half of the one liners and innuendos, but it was still pretty funny to us! Kim Cattrall (sp?) was so cute and Estelle Getty was such a little firecracker. And of course James Spader's character was so slimy, who'd have ever thought he's actually a very attractive man? Who can't help but to love Andrew McCarthy's unlucky in love, life and work character? And in the end the guy gets the girl, what more can you ask for?
If you're into cheesy 80's comedy romances, this movie is for you
