  This is a sweet monitor! The colors are rich. This is a glossy display .
  
  This monitor has a VGA and an HDMI input - there is no DVI so you need a dvi-hdmi cable if your going to hook it up to your dvi port on your computer's video card , the monitor does not come with this cable... it does come with and hdmi and vga cable.
  
  I hooked my Xbox 360 using the xbox vga cable and it is awesome!
  
  I hooked my computer using the hdmi to dvi cable (bought separately ) .. the button in from allows me to switch screen so both can be up and running using the one screen. You can also change the richness of the colors with a button in front too (photo,gaming,text,etc...) so when your gaming just press the button and jack up the colors ...
  
  The monitor does portrait mode too.
  
  Overall this is a quality monitor for a great price.... only short coming is the hdmi-dvi lack of cable , it should come with it but does not.

  This is my first flatscreen monitor, and I bought it based on the sharpness of the unit on display. I use it strictly for reading and comparing huge documents, and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I must say, I got what I paid for. The screen is crystal clear and the unit is gorgeous to look at. I'm computer illiterate, but I was able to install it myself, and it worked right out of the box. (Running XP.) The screen gives off no discernible heat, and it tilts and floats up and down beautifully on its adjustable pedestal. If you watch movies or play games, I would think this screen would be a real winner. I've only had it two days, but I could not be more pleased.

  I have this monitor for about a month and I am very impress. Photos and video are crisp and documents are clear. Some people complain about the glossy screen, but I don't have a problem with it at all....in fact it gives videos and photos richer true color. The design is very contemporary and compares to Apple's monitors. I highly recommend this monitor. Do yourself a favor and get an DVI-HDMI cable (not included)....the picture is beautiful! I got the Cables To Go - 40320 - 2M (6.5ft) Velocity HDMI to DVI Digital Video Cable for $15 on Amazon and it works great....don't be fooled by salesmen and spend $80 on a cable....this one works perfectly!
  
  

• What I wish I knew before...

  As others have written, the visuals on this monitor are excellent, the sound is on the tinny side. I'm writing to cover new ground. I purchased this monitor from Amazon on May 21. It worked well for a week or so, then came the problems. The screen would go black when it was powered up. Unplugging worked for a while, but eventually the monitor went all white. To make a long story short, we called HP and the tech figured it was a bad pixel. In the chain of interviews one woman tech agreed when asked, that they would send a new, not refurbished monitor. When a refurbished monitor arrived, I connected to an HP supervisor and found the full story. When you purchase from an authorized dealer (Amazon is not) there can be a store warranty (eg 30 days, 15 days, whatever the store chooses). If I had purchased from such a dealer,and was over the store warranty a few days, the HP supervisor could have (at their discretion) sent me a new, not refurbished monitor. As it was, HP sent the refurbished model under a manufacturer's warranty. The HP warranty allows them to send a a new or refurbished replacement. It appears to be random, odds are it will be refurbished. This one year warranty on the model purchased from Amazon began not on the May purchase date, rather it is from the January 2008 manufacture date. If I had returned this monitor to Amazon, I would be subject to a 15% restocking fee. Welcome to a rock and a hard place. Failures like this are likely rare, but it leaves us with a refurbished model instead of the new one I paid for. Buyer beware.

  I've had this for 6 weeks. It worked flawlessly right out of the box -- I didn't need to fiddle with the color/brightness/contrast settings at all.
  
  The display's picture and video quality is outstanding with rich colors and deep blacks. When I bought my Dell XPS laptop, I paid extra to upgrade to an LED display, which is better than the standard one. I used to love my laptop's display - until I got this HP monitor!
  
  Text quality is good to excellent, depending on the font and size. Small font sizes are pretty readable, though some fonts aren't quite as crisp as I would have hoped for what, to me, is a fairly high-end monitor.
  
  The included speakers are mediocre at best. If there is a version of this monitor that doesn't have the speakers (but is otherwise identical), then I'd recommend you get that instead.
  
  I really like that you can turn the monitor 90 degrees to portrait mode, and the picture will automatically rotate so that it has the correct orientation. This is great for viewing documents as they would print on a standard sheet of paper.
  
  This monitor has an HDMI input and comes with an HDMI cable. (Those cables are expensive, so it's great that HP includes one!) My Dell XPS laptop has an HDMI output, so that's how I connect. HDMI makes hookup easy, and maximizes picture quality. Most laptops don't have HDMI outputs, but if you have a DVI output you can get a DVI/HDMI adapter, or you can simply use the analog output.
  
  If looks matter to you, I think you'd be happy with the looks of this monitor. The front has a piano gloss black frame around the edge of the display. The side and rear views are nothing special but not ugly like many monitors. I think the monitor looks good, but understated, so it blends in rather than sticks out.
  
  HP sells an "easyclip" kit, which I bought. It includes four accessory holders that clip on to wherever you prefer along the side or top edges of the display. Two of these holders will hold a single photo or piece of paper (shopping list, perhaps). One holds a single flower, or a pen or pencil. And one holds headphones. I like having the easyclip holder kit, but it is definitely not essential. If you buy this monitor, it has a (removable) sticker on the base, advertising the easyclip kit.
  
  If you have a laptop, here's a really useful thing you can do with this (or any other) monitor, depending on your laptop's video card.
  
  After connecting the HP monitor, run both monitors simultaneously. Set either one to be the "main" one (with all your desktop icons and start button), and make the other one the "secondary" monitor. The secondary monitor acts as an extension to the main one. So, for example, you can drag anything from your desktop (say, a browser window that is not maximized) toward the right of the screen. As it starts to go over the right edge of the main display, it starts to appear on the left edge of the secondary display. You can run/view different things in the two displays - at the same time! I find this incredibly useful in my work - it greatly increases the effective screen real estate you have to work with. Very cool! Try it out!
  
  
  
  
• Great monitor! BUT....software bugs

  Great 22" monitor in terms of color, display, sharpness, brightness (a little high in factory setting) in the market.
  I thought that the pivot feature may be great and may be worth buying this monitor just for that feature. But software bugs drove me crazy in just after 4 days of use. I run vista home premium on my notebook (sp1 now) and the HP auto pivoting software started acting up in just 4 days. Once I removed the HDMI cable and took the monitor away, laptop display was 90 degreed turned and was unusable. Whatever I tried with the HP My display options (manual pivot, choosing 0/90 degree turns etc) none of that worked.
  Finally I went to display properties (there is a new tab for Pivot) and chose to put an icon in the tray apart from choosing manual mode). Clicking this icon and choosing pivot options works ok.
  Still unhappy with this workaround, hoping for HP to fix their software..
  If you don't have a need for this auto-pivot feature and happy with landscape mode this is the best monitor to use.
  Update: Still no software update to fix this problem as of date.
  There is a workaround: if you take care to put the monitor back to landscape before removing the notebook always, then it will work correctly!
  That said, it is a great monitor and I highly recommend this monitor.
  
  
• A great monitor

  I finally upgraded from a 17" CRT to this 22" widescreen LCD. What a difference! The amount of extra space is wonderful and I'm now able to play computer games without feeling that my view is cramped. In fact, the screen is so big, I had to push it all the way to the back of my desk to be able to take it all in without feeling that I had to turn my head to read across the screen.
  
  Some of the positives of the HPW2207h include a nice bright picture, beautiful colors (pictures just 'pop' out), easy control interface, and height adjustment. I was rather surprised to learn during my initial research that many lcd monitors don't have that last feature. I'm limited on height by a top shelf, so it was an important feature for me.
  
  The only drawback that I've seen is that text seems a bit less crisp than it did on my CRT. I don't know if this is a factor of this particular monitor, this particular model, or possibly just they LCD technology in general. The only other LCD I've had experience with is a 17" at work. Whatever is causing it, I know that I do have to adjust my reading habits at times.
  
  I should also point out that I'm currently using a VGA cable rather than DVI, so I'm hoping that the picture will be even better once I upgrade the cable.
  
  I have not tried using the screen rotation because it wouldn't fit in my desk space, so I can't comment on that. In fact, I wish this model had a version without the screen rotation that cost a bit less - I hate paying for technology that I'm not going to use.
  
  I also can not comment on the sound quality of the speakers - I have a wonderful subwoofer and side speakers, so there's no need to hook up the monitor as well.
  
  I have seen some reviews (not necessarily on this site) state that they don't like the fact that this monitor is HDMI when most video cards don't have HDMI output. This was initially a concern of mine as well regarding a future computer upgrade, so I did a bit of research. It is now my understanding that DVI and HDMI are pretty much the same quality signal - the only difference being that the HDMI is also capable of tranporting audio. To get the higher quality digital signal, you just need a DVI-HDMI cable to use with your DVI video card and you won't be losing any quality over an HDMI video card (all other factors being equal). Of course, I will state that I'm not an expert in HDMI and that this is just information I've collated from the web from what appear to be legit sources.
  
  If you pick up one of these monitors, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

  Bought this for use with my Mac Mini and PS3.
  I get 1080i settings with the PS3-games and Blu-ray content looks incredibly sharp and clear through an HDMI to DVI adapter.
  
  Mini automatically recognized the default 1680x1050 resolution and has not experienced any issues. Also watch Hi-def TV through an Elgato USB Hybrid, looks clear and sharp.

  I used the usb port on the monitor to power my speakers, VERY Bad Idea.. It toasted my new video card!!!!! The speakers on the monitor are WEAK, But the Picture quality is AWESOME!

  I got this monitor about 2 weeks ago. It's a great one, both for its ergonomics and its colors and clarity. I didn't install the drivers yet since I've heard bad things about them, so when I rotate it it doesn't switch to portrait. Other than that it's great, highly recommended.

• A Fine Monitor

  I use this monitor with a Mac Pro and love it. You should calibrate it with the Apple Display System Preference to get the color profile you like. After that forget it. The monitor adjustments all work with the Mac. No dead pixels, good stand, nice appearance. I am using a HDMI to DVI cable to connect to my Mac Pro. You can use a VGA to DVI adapter also as the supplied cable has a VGA connector on it.

  I first found this monitor based on the price. And after reading reviews from others, could not believe it would be as good as they were saying for the price. They were right! This monitor is absolutely beautiful in its picture and quality. If I could afford it, I would purchase a couple more and forever get rid of standard monitors on all my machines.
  
  The screen is clear, bright and very configurable. Multiple modes, auto contrast features with the touch of a button and being able to flip it vertically are kick butt nice. It was easy to hook up and setup although I did have a problem installing the HP drivers. That does not take away from the hardware though in any manner.
  
  Games look just awesome on this thing and it easily keeps up with high end framerates. I had never seen screens look so nice before. I can now run games in resolutions I had never seen and it is almost like each game is a new game just because of how crisp and nice they now look.
  
  If you are looking for a monitor, this is the way to go. I cannot recommend any better.

• Makes my computer faster!

  I am using a MacBook and OS X 10.5. This monitor is awesome. It makes my computer FEEL faster because I feel so much more productive. The image is clear, bright, and crisp.
  
  The feature that me and my wife like the best is the rotation feature. You can rotate the monitor and tell OS X to rotate the image...and voila! You now can read an entire web page on one screen without scrolling!
  
  I only have two minor beefs. First, with the construction does work too smoothly; that is, I have to push, pull, and coax the monitor into turning, raising, rotating, etc. This makes me a little worried because I feel like I shouldn't have to apply that much force to the monitor. Second, it'd be nice if the monitor could communicate with my computer and automatically rotate the image.
  
  Other than that...this thing is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!
  
  
• Almost Perfect

  I've had this monitor just over a day, I'm still waiting for my HDMI-DVI cable to get here so I'm using the VGA port. Even with the VGA output it looks outstanding, the monitor is brighter than my 20.1" Dell 2005FPW and obviously larger. The design is sleek and the glossy finish makes it even more attractive. The software is helpful for calibration and the auto-pivot feature seems like it could be useful for certain occasions. Nevertheless, I have four minor quips with this monitor, nothing to really bring about the buyer's remorse but something the future buyer should be aware of.
  
  1. Just about every single specification on this monitor is supposedly better than my Dell...at least on paper. The truth is the the vertical viewing angle is completely overstated, I'd say it's at MOST half of what they say (160). This may not be a factor for you if you sit right in front of your computer all the time.
  
  2. Since my Dell also does portrait mode I expected the monitor to do it just as easily too. However, the fact is you have to raise the monitor to the highest level, tilt it back as far as you can, only then do you have enough space to turn the monitor a full 90 degrees. Doing this every time you wish to switch between landscape and portrait can be frustrating.
  
  3. Since the USB ports are on the left side and portrait is 90 degrees to the right, if you have any wired USB devices connected to the monitor, it's going to fly up along with the left side of the monitor.
  
  4. There is slightly more glare on the monitor due to the glossy finish.
  
  My three year old Dell has a virtually complete viewing angle with no degradation/shift in color/contrast/brightness either horizontal or vertical. The Dell has zero glare, easier shift to portrait mode and supports a wider range for height adjustment. Unless the next iteration of the monitor fixes these minor annoyances, my next monitor will be another Dell.
  
  Having said that, I am not expecting to return this monitor and I believe I will still thoroughly enjoy this monitor for what its worth and it probably IS the best monitor at this price point ($[...])

  This is an excellent monitor. I bought it as the second 22" monitor in my office and is superior to the Gateway monitor I bought several years ago in every way. The colors are bright and vibrant, the rotating stand is excellent and allows great height and tilt adjustments. Finally the dual DVI / HDMI inputs allow for further flexibility, I have one connect for my CPU and another for my PS3, though it may be used as a display for a separate system as well.

  This is an absolutely beautiful monitor. I could not ask for/don't need more crisp definition, faster refresh rate, and/or more vivid colors.
  
  There is one big problem though: GLARE
  
  If you are like me, and have windows behind you, know that you will get enormous amount of glare. That "bright view panel" is acting like a sheet of glass.
  
  I still give it a 5 star rating because it is such a beautiful monitor...but please be mindful of where you are going to have this monitor in relation to nearby lighting.

  This monitor is as beautiful as it is functional. The super glossy look extends onto the black outer frame of the monitor. The picture is excellent whether watching DVD's or using it to work on two to three different apps at a time.
  
  The stand is again beautiful. I'm not ashamed that my clients see the back of this thing. The stand seems to be almost a floating elbow type of joint. It raises and lowers with a simple push in whichever direction you want. I like that it also pivots, so you can view things in letter or landscape mode - good for reviewing documents with clients.
  
  There are built in speakers, which are terrible, but seeing as I wasn't even expecting speakers, I wasn't too disappointed. There is no S-Video input, but that shouldn't cause any problems for future applications. The HDMI input is nice.

  So far so good. Very pleased with the performance of this monitor. My last monitor was the Gateway equivalent. It died in 20 months. I do prefer a matte to glossy screen but that's minor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this item but again lets see after several months.

  I had checked around, looked at monitors at various stores, and decided I wanted this one. Found it at the right price. Some people don't like the "glass" surface appearance; I find it enhances the picture and gives it clarity and sharpness. It is even large enough to watch online movies. Good value.

  I tried Acer AL2216Wbd, HP W2207 and studied other several same zise LCD monitors. This is a super one, most cost-effective one I think. Only concern is this one has only one-year limited warranty. You have to go to HP website to update warranty service.

  I don't normally post comments but this is a good enough monitor to leave a post for. I have recently went through some expensive monitors. My most expensive was the 24 inch Gateway HD-LCD monitor. At the time, I paid $600 for it and it laster less than a year before dying. I have only had this HP for about a month but I have had no problems and I have a feeling that it will last a lot longer than my gateway did. The funny thing is, I have had all kind of namebrand computers, laptops, monitors, etc. (My most expensive computer was an Alienware desktop ($3,500). I was home the other day and I looked around and for the first time...I noticed that all my computer equipment were HP's. I didn't mean to buy all HP stuff but it just happened that way over time. I am currently using a HP laptop, HP printer, and now a HP LCD monitor. That must say something that HP is doing something right. :-) I hope this monitor lasts and I though bigger was better but if you are buying this for mostly gaming or movies, bigger isn't always better. (Especially if you are sitting at a desk) My Dad has a 32 inch lcd monitor and its so big it hurts my eyes after playing for a few hours. My 24 inch did the same thing, especially at night. 22 inches is all I need to sit at a desk and play the 360.
  
  
• Very Good Image Quality

  I bought this monitor on the strength of the good reviews for it. The image quality merits the praise-- clear, bright, vivid colors and bedrock stable. I thought that the pivot feature might come in handy too, since I do a lot of word processing. While it has worked well for me (no bugs-- I am running XP Professional), when rotated to the vertical configuration the top of the display is so high as to be a little uncomfortable for me to look at for long. No matter. Now I just leave it horizontal and narrow the window. The display is big enough that I don't feel like I'm really giving anything up. In fact, I now often display two windows side by side because it is wide enough to be comfortable doing so.
  
  In addition, the monitor is very attractive just sitting on my desk without power and I really like how well the positioning adjustments work-- the nicest I've seen in my (limited) experience.
  
  The speakers are OK, if you don't care too much about sound quality. Without a subwoofer, though, I'll stick with my old set of Altec Lansings.
  
  I first ran the display using an analog connection with perfectly satisfactory results. I have since purchased a DVI to HDMI adapter (about $5) and am using that with the included HDMI cable. If the display is better as a result, it is apparently lost on me!
  
  All in all, a good value for the money and I have already recommended it to several friends.
  
  
• Four Stars for the price

  This is not the kind of professional monitor that a photographer or a serious graphic designer would use. If that's your bag, get one of those 23" Apple Cinema displays for $900. For anything short of that kind of exacting color control, this monitor is nearly perfect. It's bright, glossy and gorgeous. However, when the screen is dark, you can see a dark band near the top of the screen. Additionally, the monitor isn't nearly as vertically adjustable as I'd hoped it would be. I'm used to monitors that can slide up high enough that I don't have to look down at all. With this monitor, I had to buy a surge protector/monitor platform in order to elevate the monitor to a comfortable level.
  
  That said, this is the best monitor in its price range. I've already ordered a second one in order to take advantage of the dual-monitor capabilities of my video card.

  I have the W2207 (same as this except with different inputs), and it goes perfectly with my black Macbook. . it is just so beautiful. Both form factor and screen. More bright than I need, I actually have to turn it down a bit. Fantastic monitor.
