  • Excellent product!!!!!!!!!!

I bought three of these in blue (a spare for me and one for my brother) after thoroughly reading all of the comments on competitive brands. I found the comments praising this model to be right on the mark. When I read it lit up both pages at the same time using dual lights where all other brands required constant repositioning for each page, that was all I needed to know this was the best reading light for me.

I can't say enough nice things about this product. It has dual lights on a flex shaft which you can position to fully illuminate both pages of a large hardback book. You wont need to keep moving the light around to light your pages with this one and the pages ar well lit for easy reading in the dark. But the light is centralized on the book and not the surrounding area so others can sleep while you read.

You can also switch from dual lights to a single light. The flexible shaft on the light is sturdy and stable enough to firmly hold its position over the book even while you move around and turn pages. You can either clip it on the cover or use the clip to hold open the pages. It operates on AAA batteries. The higher quality battery, the longer it lasts. I use the Duracell ultra digital batteries with the blue band.

I cannot think of any negatives about this product. I'm not associated with any seller. I am just a customer who was happy to find a great product. Definitely a good buy.

  • Best book light for inveterate night owl readers

    By A1PUXF0PH4ZKA3 on 2008-03-21
The XtraFlex2 LED book light is light years (no pun intended) better than the old itty-bitty-type lights that used incandescent bulbs.

The XtraFlex2 gets great battery life, unlike the the itty-bittys, which I found went through batteries like crazy. Of course, the LED "bulbs" don't burn out like the itty-bitty blubs (and the XtraFlex2 doesn't heat up from its bulbs, either). The XtraFlex2's integrated battery pack is also great; no getting tangled up in a cord while you're in bed.

I stumbled on the XtraFlex2 at my local Borders. They had a bunch of them in a display when the final Harry Potter book was published (presumably figuring that a lot of kids, little and big, were going to be doing a lot of reading in bed...). The leftovers were sold at half price, a real bargain. I bought one, tried it out, loved it, and went back to buy several more for use as gifts (and spares).

Available in colors other than purple; Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light - Black, Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Silver, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Green, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Pink, and Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Blue.

  • Coil a little to flimsy for me.

I have purchased Mighty Bright's book lights in the past before all the way back when they weren't LED lights and the stand was larger and heaver (and took 4 AA batteries!). There are certainly upgrades to what they use to be.

    PROS

    1. Not very bulky
    2. Great feature of the 2 LEDs, especially that you are able to turn both on or just one
    3. Compact and can fit in a purse, bag for whenever you need it
    4. Clip is strong and well made and not too heavy...almost not noticeable

    CONS

    1. Clip (like older Mighty Brights) weighs down paperback books still, and is a little cumbersome
    2. Needs 3 AAA batteries...can't we do better than that? It seemed like a lot to me.
    3. My biggest issue is the coil/Flex stem to the light. It was easy to put into place, but at the slightest jiggle it would flop around or fall out of place or sag. So, unless you plan on sitting really still, it'll move and it gets annoying fast...

Bottom Line: It's a good light if you can get past needing to adjust it every time you move the book too much or you move in your bed or seat. Either way Might Bright needs to go back to the drawing board on the XtraFlex and use better materials for the stem of the light, particularly something that can keep it's position and stay better when adjusted.

  • Adequate Lighting

This book light makes reading in low level lighting or with no light source at all both easy and fun. Light is bright and clear, does not distort print, produce dark spots or hurt my eyes, double light bulbs covering a wide area. Battery power makes it great for reading when electric power fails, the dim lighting produced by candles and oil lamps simply not bright or steady enough. Convenient clip works well; long, flexible neck is easy to adjust and holds its position. I am happy with this purchase.

  • Good quality, bright, bluish, a bit pricey - will use

    By ADLVFFE4VBT8 on 2008-10-11
I received one of these (the black version) a few days ago and my verdict is that I am likely to use it when reading books at night.

    Brief overview:

    - 2 super-bright LED's with lenses
    - light has more blue and very little red, or yellow (think of a steady neon light)
    - uses 3 (THREE) AAA batteries
    - 40-hour battery life (claim is made on the package, not verified by me)
    - power supply not provided
    - relatively long, flexible arm
    - can turn on 1 or 2 LED's
    - solid build
    - a bit heavy but had no problem using it with a paperback

I will definitely use this lamp when reading books at night. I doubt I will ever use it as a flashlight or a work light unless I had no other choice.
