Can't bring myself to keep using it. By AWI0ONFSX73OW on 2008-05-09
My 10 y.o. son and I have been ripping through Mario Kart Wii and love it. I bought the game and this extra controller having high hopes. I must say that after a week of playing MKW with and without the Wii Wheel, far and away we both keep going back to the wiimote and nunchuk combo. I come home from work and the boy is playing and I ask him why he is not using the wheel. He replies that it works ok, but the wiimote works better. He is not known in this house for really giving things a good try and run something through its paces. So being the dad I am and that I spent the money on the extra one. We played each evening when I got home for work and every day he kept wanting to go back to the wiimote. I too broke down and stopped using the wheel. I am not sure why I do not like it just yet. Perhaps it is the poor ergonomics. maybe the familiar comfort of the mote and nunchuk combo, I am not sure. Maybe it is just the game and with another racing game it would be great. Regardless, be warry of it. Do not buy this extra wii wheel just because you got the game and both people want to play. Try out the wheel that comes with the game and see if you like it. If you do try the mote and nunchuk combo and see which you like best. Your mileage may vary.
A nice themed holder to have for any racing fan... By A2N84VEBTQFDSU on 2008-05-05
With the release of Mario Kart Wii, this new Wii Remote holder is going to be a hot item, especially if you are planning on racing against others in said game on your Wii.
But lets face it, all it is, is a plastic holder that is shaped like a wheel that your remote snaps into. And thats all there is to this accessory. Its nothing more then a holder shaped like a wheel to house your remote to give you the feeling of using a steering wheel while you play a racing game. So realize that going into the purchase that its just that and nothing more.
At least though the price is right and reasonable for the most part. This is not must get though as all the games this will be for I'm sure will play just fine without it. But it will add a little extra something that the already gimic like remote provides for the Wii. This just takes that remote factor an extra step by giving the illusion and feel of a wireless steering wheel that you can hold anywhere and use to race on a screen far away.
The choice is really yours. If you want to have the feeling of playing a racing game on the Wii with a wheel in your hands, this will work quite well for that. If its not that big a deal to you and you are fine with either a classic controler or the wii remote and nunchuk, then this isn't that important a purchase to make. But I do think this adds something of a element to things that is worth the small one time investment it will be.
Again its just a personal choice. Its just a plastic mold, when push comes to shove. But I think its fun device either way that is a nice addition to the Wii family of accessories.
Surprisingly Useful By A1593P4LUO0UTW on 2008-04-29
The concept of a Wiimote wheel was just plain hilarious. And very easy to poke fun of. Why do you need a plastic wheel that's detached from anything? Are you going to drive with it at the top of your head? Then there's the fact that they went through 20-iterations or so to design the wheel. And then you can go on and on about how complicated is it to design a wheel. It's not like they needed to reinvent the wheel.
But then I actually used, and surprised surprised it was fantastic. It felt natural to use the wheel and the wiimote together. It's comfortable and the response was just seamless. It was especially useful at keeping me from over steering as I wont to do in previous mario kart game. So yes, the wheel is definitely worth it. I don't know how people with different hand sizes feel about the wheel, but it perfectly suited mine.
Do not get the wheel - get the nunchuk By A1NXOPYKE1LS12 on 2008-04-30
I LOVE the Mariokart Wii game. I bought a wheel and a remote + nunchuk combination to try which one worked better. To give you background, I did play Mariokart using N64 controllers in the past, but I'm not an avid gamer. My other friend plays videogames occasionally. We both agreed that the wheel was really difficult to handle with turns, and for some reason it wouldn't flip even when I tried. It works, but if you want really tight control over courses, if you want to beat the computer characters and unlock new courses, the wheel probably won't be the best accessory. On the other hand, the remote + nunchuk combination was much easier to play with, your arms are not constantly in motion and you can take a much more relaxed stance on the couch. It just felt a lot more natural to me.
Racing To The Wii By A3W4D8XOGLWUN5 on 2008-04-27
With the success of Mario Kart Wii, many Wii owners have found a new way to race their way to the finish for the Wii. The new Wii Wheel from Nintendo allows racers to race with more ease from each of their favorite racing games. Unlike other knockoff Wii Wheels, this one is a bit easier to setup by simply hooking it into your Wii Remote controller, and when you're finished racing, taking it out is very simple with a simple punch of a button. While only one comes with Mario Kart Wii, you can buy this seperately and race against others to get to the top. I honestly though just hope more games are released soon that can really use the Wii Wheel soon, rather than only a small few.

- Great Add On
     By A1Z7RJ1MY38YGZ on 2008-04-28
I was skeptical about how it would feel holding a stirring wheel in the air and maneuvering through traffic...I was wrong. Within seconds, you forget you are holding the wheel and you are just focused on the race. This was a great addition to modernize one of my favorite games of all time (Mario Kart).
- Wii Wheel
     By A3QSTQRWIVBCIW on 2008-05-02
We got this for an extra for Mario Kart Wii. It seems to work pretty well. I have an easier time playing the game with the wheel. It's pretty basic, no parts to break really, so it's pretty durable.
- Ugh - I hate this thing
     By A7IWW54HW9SBK on 2008-05-05
I was so excited for Mario Kart for the Wii! I pre-ordered the game, and an extra wheel for my wife... The game did NOT disappoint - its a blast - the Wheel however, is a total waste... its soooo hard to use, you can't get nearly the right control out of it - the best way to play this game is with the remote and the nunchuck. Don't waste your money on this silly piece of plastic!!
- wii did play!
     By A1WSQ0QRWQC7VI on 2008-05-06
i thought that these wheels would somehow inhibit the repone time somehow but they did't. they worked just fine. i bought three additional wheels for my kids and they are wonderful. i can't wait to try them with other racing games that are set to come out. reasonably priced and sturdy too. worth it.
- Good, but Expensive
     By AV7ZJTM1420OJ on 2008-05-02
This official Nintendo Wii Wheel is the one that comes with Mario Kart. My brothers and I bought the actual Mario Kart Wii game, but wanted more wheels, so we bought them. This wheel is way better than the other wheels that other companies make. The Wii Remote fits very easily in the wheel and is very easy to take out. You can also point with the wheel attached. I like how the B button is layed out on the wheel. But this is just a piece of plastic, so it even shouldn't be $9.99. $15 is way over priced. I think it should be around $3 to $5.
- useless
     By A2FQ08CLTFE4WW on 2008-06-02
Not worth the learning curve, the nunchuck+wiimote is a better control mechanism; worst 10 dollars I ever spent.
- An ok peripheral, but unnecesary in truth.
     By ALHYZOBPNLN3Z on 2008-06-12
It works great, but you don't need it to play the game. I guess it's good for people who just can't imagine the remote as a wheel. I bought it for my kids. They like it because it looks cool, not because it helps them steer at all.
- You'll love it or hate it. I love it!
     By A2RIS7W4LGQSE0 on 2008-05-09
I read mixed reviews about the Wii Wheel attachment before Mario Kart was released and decided to just try it for myself. I found it to be very easy to use but, more importantly, I just found it to be tons of fun! So fun in fact that I haven't even tried any other control scheme.
Some people complain that the Wii Wheel isn't very accurate. I disagree. Within a week and a half of buying Mario Kart I had already gotten first place in every cup in 50cc, 100cc, and even 150cc. It might take a little bit to get used to but it's plenty accurate.
I think most people that play Mario Kart will have a strong opinion about the Wii Wheel, positive or negative. The game comes with one Wii Wheel so just give it a try first. If it's not your thing then don't use it. Personally I found that it immerses you in the game and takes the fun level up several notches. I wasn't even looking forward to buying Mario Kart but once I played it with the Wii Wheel I just can't stop playing it. I haven't enjoyed a video game this much in years. And I directly attribute that to the Wii Wheel.
- Not as fun
     By ASXKQTA3IEOEY on 2008-05-19
I don't really care for the wheel at all. The nunchuck and regular WII remote is my favorite. I tend to over correct way to much and end up playing poorly. Once I switch to the nuchuck way, I started placing in the game. My four year old likes it. My 6 year old hates it.
- Very addicting
     By A3EV8IIEX36MZS on 2008-06-10
The wii wheel makes the game. You wouldn't think a simple plastic circle would make that big a difference.
- "Must Have" Option For Racing Games!
     By A3OXHLG6DIBRW8 on 2008-07-25
The Wii Wheel makes playing racing games (like "Mario Kart") much more enjoyable and easy to master. The Wheel feels very solid and provide a touch of realism that improves control.
The additional Wheels are not that expensive, so if you will be playing multi-player you should consider getting an additional one to keep the race "fair" :-)
Very highly recommended!
- Wii Wheel provides an invisible car
     By A3I2PZWB3K9UL0 on 2008-04-27
This is a pretty cool accessory. It does feel a bit cheap and fragile though. The Wii remote fits nice and snug in the wheel and it's easy to take out also. The price is pretty great, except in order for it to work you need to buy an extra wii remote which is $40 plus the $10 for the wheel. It's very easy to use, and it brings you into the game.

Do yourself a favor, get this Nintendo Wii Wheel. why? Once you put in the Wii controller in it there is a hole on the side to point your cusor to the Wii menu. A must Have! Forget the the third party wheel, because they did not think of this feature.

I am very glad I purchased an additional Wii Wheel for our Mario Kart game. Well worth the additional bucks.
- Great if you enjoy mario kart motion control
     By A364UFGJ0OIM8K on 2008-05-06
The game, Mario Kart Wii, comes with one wheel. You have the option of using motion control(with or without wheel), numchuck + wii remote, or wii gamecube controller. The best piece of advice I can give someone is to try the motion controls on mario kart with the wheel provided with the game before you consider buying a second one. You will either love or hate the motion controls on this game so you should figure out what control configuration works best for you and those that live with you before making the decision to buy a second wheel. For instance, this game is played primarily by my girlfriend and myself. She prefers joystick control over motion control, so personally it would not make sense to spend the money for a second wheel.
If your game didn't come with a wheel for whatever reason (used game purchase, etc.) read the rest of my review below....
My review of the wheel itself.
Build - seems to be pretty high quality, very sturdy and wii remote fits in the wheel pretty well. Higher quality build then the wii zapper. It is also a lot more comfortable to hold the wheel then using motion control without a wheel.(you can't use the wheel without motion control so again make sure you like the motion control first)
Controls - The wheel is designed so that you have have very easy access to any of the buttons on the controller. It will work well for other wii motion racing games such as "excite trucks". The only thing that sometimes bothers me is that the B button in the back is pretty big, so sometimes you may accidentally hit the B button when setting the wheel down on a table. However, having the large B button on the wheel works well as far as game play goes.
In the end, this product is a must buy if there is more then 1 person in your house that enjoys mario kart motion controls, or you would like to have a wheel for one of your other wii racing games.
- Great wheel compared to others.
     By A2ORPIWKL1JWN4 on 2008-05-07
This wheel is a designed great. Compared to other wheels, that make access to the B button very difficult, this wheel is very easy to use. It is pretty accurate in the steering aspect. I would recommend this wheel to anyone that likes using a wheel for Mario Kart Wii.
- So easy a three year old can use it
     By A2N0B8C4HPPAPM on 2008-05-14
Anyone can use this. It's a blast with Mario Kart. Hopefully more games are coming for it. Smart move, Nintendo!!!
- Waste
     By AXIVHIP86D1MJ on 2008-05-17
Dont waste your money, you will just end up using the nunchuck, or a classic controler in the end, and more over dont waste your money on the new Mario Cart, just keep, or get one of the older ones, its just recycled maps with new controls that aren't that good anyways.
- Great
     By A1DYHNG0AJU91X on 2008-06-01
It just takes a bit to get used to using it because any slight move makes a difference but still a lot of fun.
- Great for casual gaming
     By A3RO6Z7WI0032B on 2008-06-02
For multi-player mayhem, nothing beats four of these wheels. Its intuitive and fun. Even people who've never played video games seem to be able to handle the wheel.
My only real problem with the wheel is that it is difficult to power slide (a Mario Kart maneuver in which a full drift gets you a small boost). I usually play on automatic drift when I'm using the wheel. It might be a skill issue, but I seem to only be able to do successful power slides when using the classic or the game cube controller (which are superior IMO for single player matches on the higher difficulties).
- Wii Wheel is a lot of fun, but harder to use than the gamecube controller
     By A3DFIQBQWW6NT0 on 2008-06-02
The Wii Wheel does make the Mario Kart experience more fun. The wheel fits nicely in your hand. The trigger button is easy to use ont he wheel as well. It makes you feel more like you are driving a go-kart, but it is a bit difficult. I think it is because there is no car feedback like you would feel if you really were driving a go-kart. I am still better at playing the game if I just use a gamecube controller. I don't have too much time to play video games, so maybe with more practice I could get better using the Wii Wheel. It is worth $10 to just have fun and try it out, but I don't hink I would pay $15 for it.
- Best quality wheel accessory out there
     By A3IS6OOXIOGDK4 on 2008-06-02
This is the best wheel out there. I bought another one and the quality is just not the same. This wheel has a cut out so that you can still use the remote in the wheel to select menu function outside the wheel game. It has a good, heavy duty feel to it.
- Definitely adds to the experience
     By A1VAHZQYS2H6QH on 2008-06-07
I was a bit skeptical about the Wii Wheel at first and thought that it was just a pretty piece of plastic to hold the Remote. But when I used the Wheel that came with the game I was surprised by how much it added to the experience. Turning the Remote on its side and using it as a steering wheel without the Wheel is awkward and can be difficult to handle for less experienced gamers. When I play Mariokart with my bf, who just began playing video games, I let him use the Wheel, but I'm always a bit sad to go without and will be buying a second one soon.
- Better than the off-brands
     By A3TSQMJU8M1XQM on 2008-06-12
After we bought Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel we decided to get wheels for everyone. We had a Wii Racing Wheel that we bought last year for Cars, but we went ahead and replaced it because Wii Wheels are a lot better and the last thing you want is someone contesting the race results because they had an inferior racing wheel. :)
The other wheel we purchased was just a hollow plastic shell. It gave you something to hold onto, but there was no balance or feel to it. Another problem was that it covered up the IR window on the end of the Wii-mote so that you had to take it out of the wheel to use the menu. This wouldn't have been so bad except that it held the Wii-mote so tight I sometimes worried about the Wii-mote getting stuck or damaged when we popped it in and out.
The Wii wheels have some weight and balance to them. They feel comfortable. The Wii-mote slides in and out easily and there is a window on the end so you can use the pointer on the Wii-mote. I also like the buttons. And of course they look good.
But the best thing is that there is no fighting over the Wii Wheel!
(The only bad thing about them is that they cost less than what I paid for the stupid Wii Racing Wheel. Oh, well.)
- Wii Wheel makes driving fun
     By A2TZFZP35NBY07 on 2008-06-12
I've never played a driving game with the old Nintendo controllers, but I can't imagine what could be easier/more intuitive than a steering wheel - great fun!
