  • Brilliant picture, superb quality

    By A2XRMQA6PJ5ZJ8 on 2008-04-13
I bought one of these units for use on my boat, and I am very glad that I did. This is a beautiful unit, well-constructed, nicely designed, and very sharp looking. The black trim is very attractive and likely to fit in well in any room or setting.

The picture quality leaves nothing to be desired. The colors are brilliant and sharp. This is as good as a 19 inch 780P HD-TV gets. The built-in DVD player works very well and is a pleasure to use.

The unit is very nicely designed from a user-interface standpoint. The single remote control can control all functions in an intuitive and integrated fashion--no need to be switching between a DVD and TV controller. Further, the menus are easy to figure out and intuitive. You really could get by without the manual for this unit, although the manual is well-written and easy to follow.

A few nits (none sufficient to deprive this unit of 5 stars). First, the remote control uses AAA batteries. These tend to discharge a LOT more quickly than the larger AA batteries and frankly, they don't save all that much space. The unit does not appear to have a screensaver for when you leave the DVD player on pause or stop for a time. And the audio in the unit could have a little more volume for larger rooms. All minor nits.

This is a beautiful unit that I am very pleased to own.

  • Not Completely Satisfied

    By A2ZDWNUAWMQRX8 on 2008-06-29
The picture quality on this TV is excellent. I am currently on analog with substandard cable and a splitter in the attic (older house) and it still shows a nice picture HOWEVER the sound quality is not good. It is very disappointing. It takes the points away from the very nice picture. I have to turn the sound all the way up (100%) sometimes just to hear it good. I've never had to turn the sound all the way up on any TV. I am sensitive to sound. I'm usually turning sound down on TV's. I even mute commercials because I don't want to hear the sound. The sound I do hear is "tinny". I've played with the bass and treble and balance on the menu but it's still not what I feel it should be. I have cheaper brand TV's where the sound is much better. I'm so disappointed because I have a 37" Toshiba LCD TV in the living room and the sound on that one is fine. Don't know what happened here. I've considered returning it but I already threw the box away. I should have waited.

  • Great TV

    By ADVAA9RFJC5R2 on 2008-05-14
We just bought this tv and we think it is great. The picture is very good for the analog channels as well as dvd. I tried using Divx dvd's and they worked great. I thought the audio wouldn't be strong enough but once I tried it out in the bedroom it was more than sufficient at 60% max volume.

I bought this TV for my RV. It has exceeded my expectations. Excellent color and contrast with easy setup. The unit is light and portable.
When the RV season is over this TV goes in the bed room of our house.
The DVD built in with the DviX makes this unit Ideal for any small room.

  • Great 19 inch combo LCD-DVD
    By A1LEPRZTVG38LH on 2008-06-04
Have been looking to upgrade a kitchen set and add the DVD player all in one shot. Reviewed and looked at a number of sets from all the usual suspects. This one got the selection due to price, features, name and quality (have 32" "tube" TV and DVD player that are Toshiba as well as past laptops). Ordered on a Wednesday received on Friday (Supersaver is superfast!). We have enjoyed it so much we end up watching more TV in the kitchen then ever. DVD player is great and the whole setup was so easy. Our basic cable included 15 HD channels that the tuner picked up immediately and we were watching our first at home HDTV shows and concerts (love HDNet) right away. This will push me into a larger set in the living room a lot faster than I thought as the difference in picture quality is so much better that all I want to watch is stuff that comes in HD. Oh well X-mas is right around the corner. Picture quality, as you might guess is great, ease of operation has been no problem for this babby boomer. Just a great 19 inch combo that fills the bill on what you would want out of a 19 inch.

  • Exceeded Expectations
    By A15G6CALF7DDUC on 2008-06-29
Looks great. Has much better picture than comparable home brands of same size from Best Buy, etc. Replaces a bedroom 13" CRT w/VHS player. Brings in off-the-air analog and digital signals just fine. DVD picture quality is great, too. I've read other reviews which said sound quality was sub-par, but we think it's fine for our purposes. I'd recommend it to a friend.

  • Sleek design with great image and okay audio
    By A3P7SQN47Z0UHO on 2008-07-06
We replaced an older panasonic 15" w/dvd in our kitchen with this unit and it was a big step up. No more squinting at scores in the lower corner from the third bar stool. Image quality and color saturation are very good. Artifacts from quick movement in HD media is fairly well controlled. Cabling on the back was clean and simple if you use a 90 degree connector for the cable. The only feature that does not measure up to the rest of the features is the audio. It is not that it is too soft as some people have written. It is that the sound spectrum for some sources seems clipped. It is not significant and there are audio out jacks if this is important to you. The bottom line is that we would not hesitate to buy this unit. It is well made and works well.

  • Defective Product and Awful Customer Service
    By A3KCSPCKSYCG3E on 2008-07-23
I purchased this product from an Amazon vendor a month ago. How does it work? I have no idea because it would not turn on when we got it out of the box. The power light went on and that it was it. We tried to operate the integrated DVD player and of course it accepted the DVD but would not eject it from the unit. We sent it to Toshiba customer service and they told us after a week that they could not repair it because a part was on back order so they would send us out a new unit. Fine, I thought. I called back a week later to find out that the unit was on back order and it would be another week before the units would come back in. I called today, ten days later, and they told me that the units have come in but my order inexplicably has not yet been shipped. I was told to call back in another week if I do not receive the TV in the interim. I have asked numerous times for a refund and Toshiba repeatedly has refused.

This has been one of the worst consumer buying experiences I have ever had. I usually buy Sony televisions but made an exception this time because I had specific space constraints and the footprint of this unit matched my needs. This is a mistake I will not repeat. Buy a product from Toshiba at your own peril.

  • Would have been great but for low sound output
    By A131EK7QBO1PBE on 2008-07-25
We bought this TV/DVD combo for use in a motorhome - it looked like a good solution for us. The picture and build quality were great but the sound level was very low, especially when playing a DVD. In an RV there is usually ambient noise from the A/C and kitchen appliances - these totally overwhealm the TV sound, even at it's highest setting. It is surprising that Toshiba would put so much work into a high quality product then get the sound system wrong. It would probably be fine in a small, quiet office but it didn't work for us.

  • Ex-Toshiba Customer
    By ARTKLS43BR27L on 2008-07-18
When I recieved this product, I immediately found that it did not work. I attempted to get it replaced and Toshiba refused to do that. I had to return it AT MY OWN EXPENSE. Worst customer service experience I have ever had!

  • Slow tuning, poor ergonomics
    By A1FIB34L2IU15Z on 2008-09-10
We're using this TV in our kitchen and the remote is often tucked in a drawer. The controls for tuning and volume are on the left side of this tv. Toshiba made no effort to make the controls identifiable by feel, and the labeling of the controls is low contrast, so when you're not using the remote the TV's frustrating to operate. Sound volume is marginal and tuning response is very slow. Picture quality is good and the product looks good.

  • Toshiba 19LV505 - Poor Audio
    By A3G54G4TWHHHWT on 2008-09-29
The picture is good, the DVD player is a nice feature (especially with kids) but the sound is horrible. We have it in our basement where we run on a treadmill and, with the treadmill going, you can't hear any sound (even with the volume at its maximum level).

  • Not bad for something that would be rarely watched
    By AOUG7UMHV246W on 2008-10-03
This is an OK set, but the tuning is slow. If you are a cable or sattelite user and leave it sit on the same channel/input, then this will not be a problem. The audio is OK. Picture quality is OK as well. Nothing like the picture/sound quality of some of the more noted brands like Sony or Samsung, but if you get it for a good price, then it maybe a nice TV for your get-away hous, a child's, guest room, etc. I just wouldn't recommend it if you wanted to watch it as your primary TV.

  • Excellent value
    By A343AZA79I3S8W on 2008-06-21
Looks great, works great, installed with wall mount in the kitchen for 180 degree viewing. Meets all our expectations.

  • Great TV
    By A2GBQ7PY5YQGYO on 2008-07-21
I bought this Toshiba HD TV/DVD combo when my old (ten years) 15 inch Samsung failed. What a great TV this is! Absolutely spectacular picture, great sound, and Oh! such light weight. Plus, the price was superb and the shipping was two day air via FedEx.

I absolutely could not be happier with this purchase.

  • AWESOME TV...PERFECT
    By A254PEDZTILCKG on 2008-07-24
Got this television for my bedroom. The picture is perfect and the sound is great. Love the DVD player and the lit remote is great!!! I would definately recommend this to anyone!

  • Annoying Tuner and Setup... Nice TV otherwise
    By AOAOARIH72UWI on 2008-10-31
The picture is good. The sound is OK. The built in HD is a nice bonus. Why is the tuner sooooo SLOW!? It takes a good second or more for the picture to come up when you change the channel. As a matter fact, when you change the channel the picture won't come on before you can change to the next channel. Making channel surfing impossible to tediously slow. I only have basic expanded cable and it takes over 5 minutes to surf every channel if I wait for the picture to come up on each station. Doesn't sound like a long time but try it yourself and see how long it normally takes. Extremely annoying! Also, the channel programming menu sucks. To add or delete a channel you have scroll through a slow moving list of every single channel to add/delete. You can't just go to a channel and hit add/delete. It has to be done in the setup menu where you can't preview the actual channels. DVD player seems to work ok but, it did have some problems recognizing a disc the other day. I had to eject it and replace before it picked up. The TV itself looks nice. It has a very glossy frame around the screen and the speakers are barely noticeable. I have it mounted on a swing arm over a bar area and needed the built in DVD player. This was the most affordable($303)one I could find that was made by a top manufacturer. A comparable model from Sanyo was a $100 more.

  • Toshiba killed Santa for my kid
    By A1YL0XUT0M158Z on 2008-11-18
We bought a TV/DVD combo from Toshiba as a gift from Santa last year for my 8-year old so that she could watch her Full House and Lizzie McGuire movies on it in her bedroom. Unfortunately, after 4 months, the tv's picture stopped working. She told me to send it back to Santa, so off it went to our local authorized Toshiba repairman, as you cannot return these items to Amazon after a certain period of time. We were told by Toshiba that the tv was under full warranty for parts and service. The repairman said no. We would have to pay at least $80 in service repairs. Well, it's been six months and we have yet to see our tv. The part that was supposedly broken was out of stock. Toshiba has sent out part after part after part...spending more in shipping and parts I'm sure than we actually paid for the tv. Now they are shipping out their 4th part...and we still have no tv and it's November. NOTE: the Toshiba representatives were rude and their supervisor (Dave Thomson) was scripted and condescending. TOSHIBA DOES NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT HELP ITS CUSTOMERS.

My daughter got so upset that Santa didn't return her tv that we had to buy her another tv a few months ago. Then, she overheard one of the numerous heated discussions between my husband and Toshiba. Every time my husband called, we were told the issue would be "escalated". The representatives are scripted and said whatever they could to passify us. In the end, we were told by Toshiba's supervisor (Dave Thomson) that this was their final decision...to just continue to keep trying to fix an inferior product with no hope that it may get fixed. By the time we get the tv back, if we get it back, it will no longer be under warranty.

In the end, with no return of her original tv and the numerous phone calls to/from Toshiba, my daughter finally got the clue and realized Santa doesn't exist. Thanks Toshiba. MAY NO PARENT EVER RELY ON YOUR PRODUCT AGAIN! THE TECHNOLOGY IS LOUSY AND YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT! GIVEN HOW TIGHT CONSUMERS' WALLETS ARE THIS SEASON, I HOPE PEOPLE LOOK PASSED YOUR BRAND AND SELECT A BETTER CHOICE.

FYI...When we purchased the tv, it was not made clear to us that it would be outdated within 14 months with the switch to digital.

Happy Holidays from a very dissatisfied customer.

  • Excellent Value
    By A1PZJB4VW943JH on 2008-08-23
I received the Toshiba 19LV505 yesterday. After spending much time researching 19" flat screens I took a chance with this model. We plan to put this in our country kitchen as we inserted a pellet stove for the winter.

First may I say I shy away from writing reviews. The TV is so much more then expected and deserved the time to let people know. We have it hooked up to Comcast with just the antenna (no box). The Digital stations look as fine as those on our HD Sony Wega. Analog stations come in with digital quality. After reading other reviews I was concerned with the volume. My husband is hard of hearding yet volume is strong enough for him. The DVD is an added bonus on this unit. I tried the DVD today and it works great.

  • nice tv, good dvd quality, tinny sounding speakers.
    By A3SILZXWKJL5P on 2008-10-29
I am overall satisfied with this tv, I love its design, the fact that it is white and good looking, similar to my iMac computer, and I wanted an energy star rated tv, that uses less wattage than my 1984 Mitsubishi 19" tv . The picture is not quite as good as my old 84 Mitsubishi, but it is reasonably close. I still have to use my cable box (which I hate) from Cox cable to get some channels, though I can get many channels without the box. The pedestal is excellent, it tilts up or down to give a much better viewing angle, and the picture is easily viewable from any angle in my living room of my condo. The pedestal also has excellent non-slip feet that gives it a good footing on my tv stand, plus there are straps you can tie the tv down with (as I have to the stand itself). I just have to figure out if I must have a receiver to add a couple of better speakers, an amplifier, or what. Overall, i am pleased with this purchase.

  • Muting option is horrible
    By A2BSF1T6TPKSJZ on 2008-11-15
Nice TV, but muting feature is poorly designed and I am returning my unit. When you press "mute" it mutes 1/2, then you have to press mute again to mute the sound all the way. This is a standard feature (not a service issue) and it cannot be altered.

  • great flat screen

this is my great little kitchen tv! I love it! clarity of picture, sound are GREAT!

    By A1YT3LP5FAHEGX on 2008-09-04
Seemed like a decent TV until after 2 weeks of use and turned on and the picture went white. Called Toshiba customer service and, on my nickel had to send the TV to the service center. Still waiting to get back or any word regarding problem. Not an impressive start for a $400 TV.

  • Slow tuner, weak sound
    By A2EL16KZE0NFKN on 2008-09-24
Nice looking TV, good picture. Channel Surfers beware!! At least 3 full seconds to change a channel. Screen is black until channel is tuned. Does not matter if you use numerical entry or channel button.
Very frustrating. Toshiba says this is normal. Sound is very tinny.

  • Need speakers!
    By A2Y4V138SPV19P on 2008-10-07
the only think is IT NEED SPEAKERS, the volume very low. But everything is great!!

    By A2GLNRNF7ZALIZ on 2008-07-28
Got this for the bedroom, and I just love it. The sound is great and has an excellent picture. The down side is the remote is not arranged very good, hard to find the channel return button, and it takes a long time to go to the next channel.

  • Toshiba Products Are Poor Quality
    By A3GKSQN8VVGMC4 on 2008-09-07
    Avoid Toshiba Products.

I purchased their (expensive) SD 5000 HD player, and it broke for no reason just after 1 year. Customer service was worse than useless. This company's products should be avoided.

  • Excellent picture. Bad Audio. No DVD-presence indicator
    By on 2008-09-30
    Positives:
Yes excellent picture quality even for DVD viewing.
HDTV ATSC tuner is good to receive free HD programs over the air (you will need an UHF/HD antenna)

    Negatives:
    Too low audio.
No indicator that there was already a DVD inside. By mistake, you could put many DVDs inside and everything got stuck. However, it is not difficult to open the drive and pulled them out.

  • A Great Set and Value
    By A7HMP2HGX8EWF on 2008-10-19
This was my first TV I have bought online it arrived in perfect condition. It has great picture quality and DVD part it is easy to work.

The only slight downside is the sound volume is a little low even on its highest setting. It is a good value.
