  • Disappointed, but Hopeful

    By A10O52QWKP8WOB on 2008-05-26
I was prepared to love this album because I've enjoyed Ms. Hough's TV performances. However, I had trouble understanding some of the lyrics because there seemed to be a lack of clear enunciation. Also was not prepared for all the references to alcohol & cigarettes--they just didn't fit the persona I expected & they were jarring.

I wish this budding talent long-term success, & I hope she finds material that will both satisfy her current fans & help her build a greater base. I'd love to buy future albums appropriate for family pre-teens.

  • Love the album!!!

I'm quite surprised that this two time winning DWTS champion can pull off another talent. Julianne Hough is quite the double threat. I enjoy listening to all the songs, especially "Dreaming Under the Same Moon" where she sings with her brother, Derek. She is going to have a successful career in music, and I can't wait to hear more music from her in the future.

  • Pretty darn good

    By A3312IPRZK57H4 on 2008-05-21
Not only a pretty girl, a fabulous dancer, but also a pretty darn good singer. These songs are not my cup of tea, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Julianne Hough has a nice voice and is a believable country singer. Good for her!

  • Defintely a triple threat

    By A2XIH0LXR9EEBA on 2008-05-22
Man I couldn't wait for the album and listen to her - she's awesome the songs are wonderful and the duet with her brother is great - I certainly hope he branches out also to a singing career - the only thing I could think of is this is the Blonde Osmonds - they've got it all! keep it going Julianne your a treasure to watch and enjoy - thanks for branching into music

  • refreshing talent!

    By A1HKWCV9131K1F on 2008-05-22
she really does have it all and i hope she gets the respect and recognition she deserves for her singing and not just her dancing! the album has it all, serious ballads, up-beat catchy dance songs, and passion! i think even those who aren't country fans can enjoy this album... definitely a unique voice, and the cd showcases that! i highly recommend it, all the songs are catchy -- great summer debut album!

  • Sensational!
    By A10EX24JI4E86G on 2008-05-24
Carrie Underwood, watch out! I heard all Julianne's songs, and they are sensational. I had no idea that she could sing so well. In my opinion, Julianne's voice is so much deeper, fuller, more nuanced than Carrie's. Julianne is going to be the next best thing! She's super talented, full of energy, and smokin' hot!

  • surprised and very pleased
    By A28T19GA1OS6S8 on 2008-05-25
This is very good stuff! I was a bit nervous to buy this cuz I know her as a dancer and sometimes crossovers ruin careers but she has a very good voice. and her choice of songs was brilliant. Lots of stuff about love and crushes and that feeling, yes. But also some beautiful and powerful songs with messages about self-respect and alcoholism.
Julianne's brother also appears and has a duet- talented family!
Easy to listen to, fun to groove with, this woman is a talent to be reckoned with!

  • Can Sing and Dance
    By A2P6BG1S90W5F5 on 2008-05-28
This album is a good beginning for Ms. Hough. She's got a good, solid voice. The songs are good too. They're not sappy or just fluff like one might expect from such a young lady. There's not many uptempo "rockers," the album tends more toward a measured tempo. However, those songs are not boring or tedious. The lyrics are good and the songs hold the listener's attention; the album doesn't ever get tedious. Good stuff here. The dancer is off on the right foot with this album.

  • Julianne Hough - The Next Faith Hill
    By A2IPZIDLCN5ZOU on 2008-06-05
I remember some years ago watching TNN (The Nashville Network) and seeing country music's newest rising star singing her heart out with a look and presence that I have never forgotten. I was blown away with this woman's innocent beautiful looks and a voice that left me weak at the knees. That woman was Faith Hill.

Listening to Julianne Hough's debut album is reminiscent of listening to Faith Hill back then. To say that I enjoyed the album is a gross understatement and the great thing about it is, she is only going to get better!

Julianne Hough is a woman with a presence and demeanour well ahead of her years. Her innocent beautiful looks and mellow voice (not to mention her dancing skills!) are so refreshing in this day and age.

Julianne, I wish you nothing but success and happiness in your career and urge you to follow your dream so that we all can continue to see and listen to you; and, please promise that one day you will come to Toronto, Canada. To your success, Carl Baccari

  • Great CD
    By A297VZX6HREMM8 on 2008-06-09
This is a very nice CD from a new star. I watched her dance, and now she can sing too. That Song In My Head is a fun song to listen to, it brings out her bubbly personality. I also loved the song Julianne sings with her brother. They should sing more songs together .... they could be as hot as The Judds. I'm glad I bought this CD, and wish Julianne all the best of success.

  • Love her, not her music
    By A2D94OZV5OYMD7 on 2008-08-04
    Julianne is a great dancer.
Her singing is not world class. Unfortunately she sounds like just another pretty blonde who wants to be a country star.
Too many of them already. Most no better or worse than Julianne. We just don't need another one.

You blow the world away with your dancing. Stick with what you are great at.

  • Not that good...
    By ABU13T846HH3H on 2008-08-13
All of the songs sound relatively similar...if you've heard one, you've heard them all. Julianne's singing isn't all that great either, her voice gets to be annoying after listening to about three songs. I didn't really care for any of the songs on the album, and after I tried to listen to it several different times, I just ended up with a headache. I can't get used to this album...it just isn't what I define as good country music. I would say, Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Kellie Pickler, etc., produce good country albums that you can actually listen to.

  • Better than I thought it would be
    By A39CYQVU20TZ1E on 2008-05-28
For the last 2 years I have admired Julianne Hough, on Dancing with the Stars. It seemed unfair that she could dance and be so beautiful as well.
To make matters worse the girl can sing...........its not fair.
In all seriousness, this CD is outstanding. She has great writers. I dont know that she is as good as Carrie Underwood, but she is certainly better than Kelly Pickler. Infact there are many current country stars that she puts to shame.
She has good writers, the songs are certainly better than most of the country stars of today. A song titled "That song in my head" should be a big hit for her, infact there are a few songs that could climb the charts.
She is surrounded by good musicians.
Her brother Derek does a duet with her as well.
Its too bad Dancing with the Stars is over for this current year.
It would have been a kick to see her debut her CD on the show.
I think we will hear more of Julianne in the coming year....You go girl..............

  • Not a bad debut!
    By A2I9Q8GMUX4JDE on 2008-06-03
Many of JH's fans seem to have been fans from DWTS; they fell in love with her dancing ability and now want to support her music career. JH is a great looking woman and a relativley talented singer; she's no better or worse than many of the up-and-coming country "divas" and I can see her becoming quite successful (as we all know how loyal country fans are).

While her voice does not touch Carrie Underwood's, JH is gifted in her own right. She's only 19 and her songs reflect that - but the lyrical content is more mature than Taylor Swift's debut (although I think Taylor put out an overall better album). One thing I do like is that JH has a more country than pop sound, which counteracts the current trend among country's young female stars.

  • A disappointment
    By A3M1SA7CDWBO52 on 2008-11-13
Fairly routine country music fare, and quite disappointing. Julianne adopts a highly affected southern accent on most songs - it sounds forced and artificial (That Song In My Head, About Life, Hello). It's like you're not hearing Julianne, you're hearing her impression of how a country singer should sound. She would have been better advised to sing using her natural voice. Often the lyrics that emanate from her mouth are not at all believable (Jimmy Ray McGee, About Life). That might be okay if she was recording an album of cover songs, but these are new compositions. To sum things up, Julianne Hough - although a decent singer - is a country music poser.

Best song: Help Me, Help You.
Worst Songs: You, You, You; Hide Your Matches; My Hallelujah Song.

  • Amazing
    By A187DXKHVP3TSG on 2008-05-25
Absolutely Great, i listened to the entire album and i can't believe its this good for her 1st album. Great Job Julianne Hough!!

  • Sounds like....
    By A2LCGB0APDZM65 on 2008-06-09
I am impressed with this debut album, although I look forward to her next one, since I think she CAN do a little bit better with song selection, and possibly with production. Let's hope her record company and managers give her the promotion that her talent deserves. Otherwise, this could be her ONLY album. Too many great talents would be right up there with the best if only their people had done the right promotion.

As for her sound.... I found that on some of the songs she sounded like Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, but on other songs, there is a hint of the energy and hard-hitting vocals of Gretchen Wilson.

In comparison with the vocal talent of the most beautiful women of country music, she is NOT as good as Carrie Underwood, but she is BETTER than Taylor Swift. Her personality, energy, and amazing good looks give her a chance to become VERY successful, but only IF she is given the right promotion before it is too late. Let's see her on late-night and daytime talk shows, singing for a larger audience. How about it Ellen, Conan, Letterman, Regis & Kelly, Leno, etc???????

  • She sould stick to dancing
    By A1II4L73JUQP6P on 2008-06-21
She's adorable. Who would disagree? But she can't sing. She should stick to dancing. That she can really do!!!!!

  • Julianne Hough
    By AZROQFMWQDGTQ on 2008-06-22
This is a very enjoyable collection by a fresh voice and a remarkable clairity. I was surpirised by the tonal changes and the vocal control Julianne displayed. It doesn't sound like a first CD at all. It also doesn't sound like it will be her last.

There is also a variety to the type and style of songs contained and each is delivered with a precise crispness and an entertaining flair. The production and finish are all first rate and the whole CD is completely enjoyable.

If you like country music, I don't see how you can pass this up. I think it portends a great many good things to come from Julianne. The duet with her brother shows that talent is a family trait as well.

  • Should keep her day job
    By A3KFXK8WI541FA on 2008-07-09
I really wanted to love this CD, but after a couple of songs I grew tired of her voice. I just knew it would be great because this gal can dance like no other! I do love the duet with her brother though, they sound so good together and Derek has a wonderful voice. He should record a CD himself! Maybe she will get better material and her voice will mature a bit later on.

  • Not bad.
    By AW2COKRISE6OB on 2008-05-23
If you're looking for a decent country album, you can't really go wrong here. This is by no means Lynn, Parton or even Twain, but it's not bad. There is an ever-so-slight pop touch that adds to this LP's appeal. It's not boring, that's saying so much in today's music market. Pick it up, I think you'll find yourself spinning it more than twice. Forget the "Dancing With The Stars" hoopla, this stuff just isn't that tacky.

  • Upbeat country that stays with you
    By A2JZLYHYO45LR2 on 2008-05-31
Julianne Hough is amazing -- she's sings as well as she dances -- and Dancing with The Stars fans know that that is saying something. The songs are upbeat and catchy and the best one, "That Song in My Head," does just what the lyrics say -- it stays in your head all day.

  • Who knew?
    By A13Q15W2KRXCWM on 2008-06-01
Who knew that Julianne had such a great singing voice? I'd compare her to Carrie Underwood, with maybe a little more country stylings. The free song is great - can't wait to get the whole CD.
I would agree somewhat (if what the previous reviewer said is really the case) that the songs could maybe be more wholesome, but country songs do tend to be a lot about drinking and such...so I guess it's expected.
The biggest pleasant surprise is that she has a wonderful solid country voice. Totally unexpected! Sing & Dance on, Julianne!

  • Disappointed
    By A2SW4ZFOLWN3FM on 2008-06-23
I was disappointed for all the hype it got. I'm not a fan of country music but I was hoping the Will you Dance with Me would be on it.

  • JULIEANN HOUGH
    By A2ZU9HBE3DSRUU on 2008-06-25

I LIKED IT BUT NOT ALL THE SONGS. WAS SURPRISE AS SHE DOES HAVE A GOOD VOICE. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR HER DO MORE CLASSIC WESTERN HITS. JAN DAVIS

  • boring
    By A1T5M310IAWDUQ on 2008-07-07
After listening to the album, I knew it would stay in the drawer.
This CD offers no real compelling music, but a list of simple nice songs which is not enough at times when you may listen to very creative artists all over the world and especially in the USA.

  • She has talent
    By A2DI9G9TR0GJ76 on 2008-07-14
Julianne has a good voice, but I think she could sound better if the music and lyrics were better suited to her voice. Wouldn't purchase anymore of her music at this point.

  • Country singer
    By A1X4DE742DK4OX on 2008-08-11
We liked her on dancing with the stars and she sings well. She sounds a lot like other country western female singers. Her brother joined her in one song and it was good.

  • JULIANNE HOUGH CD
    By A2A61EA7Z1ZR89 on 2008-08-17
WHEN I PURCHASE THIS CD I HAVE ONLY HEARD ONE SONG BUT I HAVE TO SAY IT IS GREAT CD I PLAY IT ALOT

  • Why country?
    By A1XV1DGYJ27DOX on 2008-08-22
Everytime I hear Julianne's songs it sounds kind of fake because when she talks she has absolutely no country sound in her voice at all. I think if she was the make an album it sound just be a regular pop/ballad album.
