"You spent three days lying on a beach drinking rum?"
"Welcome to the Caribbean, love!"

This beautifully designed narrative serves as your compass to Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy of movies, describing in detail every aspect of the movie-making process, from casting to costumes to computer graphics, from curses to cutlasses to corsets.
Author Michael Singer takes readers on an extraordinary journey, recounting the links in the Pirates of the Caribbean chain-from the last Disneyland attraction in which Walt Disney was personally involved, to a film project spearheaded by one of the world's most successful producers, Jerry Bruckheimer, and a vividly imaginative director named Gore Verbinski.
A veritable treasure chest of exclusive photos and insider information, the book includes information on the production, makeup, location filming, shipbuilding, stunts, and special effects, as well as a scrapbook of Jerry Bruckheimer's on-set photographs. Also included are profiles on the films' incredible stars: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Bill Nighy, Stellan Skarsgard, and more!

  • Bring Me That BOOK!

    By A3KZC2TLRZLOA0 on 2007-05-26
Disney's books about its PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise have been uniformly good, but this is the one that fans of the movie (and ride) will want to put on the shelves. Printed in full color, oversized, and jam-packed with well-written text, the imaginative layout marries the professional photos with the engaging text by Michael Singer, with the result that this is truly an insider's guide to the making of these three movies. Though some of this material is covered on the supplementary discs to the first and second movie, it's good to have everything in printed form for easy reference.

Get it. Buy it. Enjoy it. Or walk the plank!

Having seen the third movie today, I can say that it's a rollercoaster ride, a stunning visual effect from start to finish, and a set-up for the fourth, inevitable film.

I will be reviewing this book and giving it my highest recommendation in my book, CARIBBEAN PIRATES, since I consider it indispensable.

  • Excellent Companion Book to the Films

    By A39HI3CKVEXV1I on 2007-05-28

If you're a fan of the movies and like me, the kind of person who watches and enjoys the Extras on DVD you will probably enjoy this behind the scenes look at the making of these three films. Well organized, it goes into the creation of the films such as the story of how Johnny Depp actually came up with the writer's favorite line in the films. There are sections on the creation of the amazing sets used in the film, along with adventures on the location shoots. Oh, also, there are lots of behind the scenes pictures that haven't been seen all over the Internet, details of the actors and how they came to be cast and bring their characters to life. There's a section on the last day of filming that was fun to read.

My only complaint is that I wish it had been in hardback, but I suppose to keep the price down the publisher went with oversized paperback. But in any event, I certainly got $17 bucks worth of entertainment out of it!

  • Covers all three movies...

    By A1I9B4PSCDDWOO on 2007-05-28
This promo book written by Michael Singer tells us the background story behind the making of all three Pirates of Caribbean movies. The book covers the background materials on the actors, actresses, special effects, how the story developed and so on. All the how, why and what of the three films are presented here. Its well written, entertaining, well presented with many illustrations and full sized colored photographs. Overall, its an excellent presentation and representation of the three Pirates of the Caribbean films.

If I had any problem with this book however, it just feel like a "slap in the back" feel good book that seems to be too self-congratulatory in nature. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that since this is a promo book but I kind of wish the author gave the trilogy a harder look.

Any fan of the trilogy will find this book to be an enjoyable and informative reading material. In some ways, it reads like a souvenir book and that is the way I am treating it.

  • Behind the scenes mith Jerry Bruckheimer from Pirates of the Caribbean

    By A2VR5APCG4KNSH on 2007-07-15
For every Pirates movie fan a must have. The Characters talking about things that happened during filming. You get to know them better by reading this, things that you never have read before in any other interview in magazines or on sites. Also very nice phatography by Jerry Bruckheimer. Pictures only published in this book. Whene you are reading this you get great respect for all those people who are working behind the scenes. Then you realise how huge the work is to build a set. You find very much information about how the movie comes to that what we see on the whitescreen. Enormous what a work is done to deliver these three movies for us to see. You read who created the final line "bring me that horizon" of the first movie.

  • A Pirate's Life for Me
    By A6A8AXYMS4P3S on 2007-10-10
As the lead animal trainer on all three of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, I found Michael Singer's account of our shared experience accurate, artistic, and exciting. So often, the perspective disseminated via the publicity machine shows an idealized view of the film making process. "Bring Me That Horizon" beautifully illuminates our journey - warts and all. I am especially appreciative of the special chapter on "Critical Critters"(pages 88 & 89). For a veteran of the "Pirates" wars, this book is like a photo album - slash - scrapbook I will cherish forever.

  • Beautiful book! Love it!
    By A1KYC56SRXA20Y on 2007-11-24
This book is a must have for Pirates fans. The photos and illustrations are just beautiful, and the information within its pages is so interesting and educational as to how the movies were made! I am by no means a book expert, I just buy what I like, and I am a diehard Pirates fan, so I recommend this book highly.

I had to chuckle at one of the other reviews that mildly rebuked the author for not examining the movie trilogy more closely... well, many of us in Pirates fandom have had way too much of that stuff... overanalysis of the plots, the characters, etc. Just leave me happily entertained, and leave the examining to the film critics, who I ignore, anyway! ;)

Once again, a visually beautiful book, worth the price for it's artwork and photography, alone.
