PS3 80GB MGS4 Bundle

As DVD playback made the PlayStation 2 more than just a game machine, hefty multi-media features make the Sony PlayStation 3 an even more versatile home entertainment machine. Features such as video chat, Internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video will likely make it the central component of your media set-up. Still, it is first and foremost a game console--a powerful one at that. Now you can own this powerful console and start playing the most anticipated game of the year, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, right out of the box!

Under the Hood of the PS3
The PS3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That's approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience.

Playstation 3 Features
  • Blu-Ray is the New Way
Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity--combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card--promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. The PS3 will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. In addition, PlayStation 3 system software update version 2.20 and up includes BD Live support. With this you can now play discs that support Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) and you can also connect to the Internet while playing discs that support this format so that you can obtain additional features. Features that are available vary depending on the software in use.

  • The Dualshock 3 Rumble Wireless Controller
The Dualshock 3 Rumble wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 system provides the most intuitive game play experience with pressure sensors in each action button and the inclusion of the highly sensitive SIXAXIS motion sensing technology. Each hit, crash and explosion is more realistic when the user feels the rumble right in the palm of their hand. It can even detect natural movements for real-time and high precision interactive play, acting as a natural extension of the user’s body. Dualshock 3 wireless controller utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless game play and the controller’s USB cable to seamlessly and automatically charge the controller through the PlayStation 3 system at anytime.
  • Plays All PlayStation Games
The PlayStation 3 will be backward compatible with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, which means you'll be able to play all your favorite games without keeping all the old systems. The console will have slots for Memory Stick Duo, an SD slot and a Compact Flash memory slot. It comes with a pre-installed hard disc drive, which allows you to save games as well as download content from the Internet.
  • Included in this bundle Metal Gear Solid 4!
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is a next-gen experience complete with top-of-the-line graphics and surround sound designed for the Sony PlayStation 3. Featuring the most revealing display of Kojima Production's premier title, MSG4 details the world where Snake must under go his final mission. In a world overrun by private military companies (PMCs), wars are no longer fought over nations or ideologies. Instead, the wars of the future are micro-managed by overarching PMCs, right down to the bullet. New gadgets and abilities fuel Snake's journey deep into the enemy domains of the Middle East, South America, and beyond. New gear includes "Metal Gear Mk. II," the ultimate reconnaissance tool, and "Solid Eye," which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings. Joined by a familiar cast of characters, Snake must once again return to the battlefield to confront his lifelong rival, Liquid Ocelot, who is manipulating the world's wars from the one world where soldiers will always have a place. But Liquid Ocelot is not the only one who will be able to manipulate the world's wars--Snake can destabilize opposing forces by working behind the scenes, supporting the local militia as they fight PMCs, creating a smokescreen that allows Snake to move freely within the war-zone.
  • Online
Sony has stated that the PS3 will have similar online connectivity and services as the next generation of Xbox Live. Calling it "an always on, always connected device," SCEI's chief technical officer Masa Chatani said the PS3 would be constantly in touch with a "PlayStation World" network "fundamentally based on community, communication commerce, and content." Technically, the infrastructure is there to make that connection. The PS3 supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T Ethernet, as well as IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking protocols.

  • The Most Advanced Gaming Console with one Revolutionary Game

    By A22AD8M2SSOFHJ on 2008-06-07
For all of you considering the PS3 this is one of the best choices you can make when it comes to home entertainment. Gaming and multimedia are taken to the next level.

First getting my hands on the PS3 made me realize that this is the largest Playstation conosle by volume and weight they have ever come out with. I quickly realized how sturdy and well made this product is. The plastic that is used is solid and heavy duty. I also realized how easy dust and fingerprints attract to the shiny finish which is both plastic and fake chrome. Connecting the PS3 was the easy part. Unlike the Wii and 360 Sony has left the power station inside the console. Which means you only need one heavy duty plug to connect. From the back of the console you have many choices for video and audio outputs. The standard AV outlet is there which allows you to play with the cables it comes with or to buy component cables for high definition viewing. You also have a optical digital output for full digital sound. New to any video game console is HDMI output. This allows you to have the PS3 in full high definiton video and audio. HDMI is capable of a full digital signal allowing 1080p true high definition picture. It is also capable of unleashing 7.1 high definition sound. So audiophiles should be happy about what this console offers. On the front end you get three memory card slots which are hidden behing a plastic door...so as to not diminish the appearance of the PS3. Also they included four USB outlets. This allows you to connect various devices like a photo camera, internet camera, mouse, or even a printer. The Sony PS3 has a feature that allows it to be on standby at all times. Which is similar to the other consoles. I will talk more about this feature on the PS3 further in the review. Also for those of you that need space the PS3 can accomodate larger hard drives. I have added a 160 gig hard drive to accomodate future game media.

I would like to cover all the interface options the PS3 accompanies seperately so consumers can become aware of all the advantages this console carries. For those of you familiar with the Playstation Portable this interface is almost exactly the same.

You are able to create seperate logins for anyone who uses the PS3. This allows for each person to go online with their information. Although it doesn't really have many more advantages than that right now it is rather insignificant.

Next is the system settings. This allows the user to adapt the PS3 to their television and sound system. You can adjust the high defention settings to fit the maximum resolution of your t.v. You also have setting for your blue tooth devices and internet connections. The PS3 comes with built in wi-fi which seems to have a strong connection that gives you almost seamless online use. For those of you that have taken the step up the PS3 does support Dolby HD sound making for an amazing experience.

The PS3 also has a photo viewer. You can download photos by three different means. One is by using your camera and connecting it via USB. I haven't checked to see how viable this option is. Next you can download the pictures with a memory card or memory stick. This operation is rather simple and downloads are quick. Generally you get your standard slide shows although they have a fun feature. It allows you to view your pictures on a blank canvas as they fall onto the blank canvas. Slide shows are best when you set them to your music.

Next is the music player. You can dowload songs by several different means. You can use a memory card, usb memory stick, CD's, or even IPod's. Songs download much quicker via memory card than CD. SONY has talked about having a song download service in the future. When watching photos you can add music. The visual player is really beautiful with an Earth visualizer.

I want to talk about one of the most notorious features of the PS3. The Blu-ray player. Most of you now know what a Blu-ray player is and does. I have viewed numerous movies on it. I have also viewed these movies on two different hdtv's. One a 1080p and a 1080i. I really did not notice much of a picture difference. One thing I have noticed about hd movies is that the ones more than a couple years older have a slightly grainy appearance since they were remastered for high definition. Newly made movies appear crystal clear with vivid colors and tremoundous definition. The PS3 does allow you to view regular DVD's which can make the transition that much easier. The regular DVD movies are upscaled on your HDTV allowing an excellent picture. Many new DVD movies look great when they are upscaled into HD.

Now would be the gameplay part of the interface. This keeps track of the game disc you may have in the player or also games or demos that you have downloaded. This interface is rather simple and easy to negotiate. For any PS2 owner it also carries your virtual memory card with all your game data. With this PS3 model you can play all PSone games and many PS2 games. As far as the PS3 games go I have played numerous games plus several demos. There are a few games which look better on the 360. Although that is becoming less and less as developers learn the PS3. The game speed is smooth and polished. The visuals on exclusive PS3 games like Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Motorstorm is quite impressive. The PS3 seems to create a living vivid environment with the ability to create many textures and surfaces. Amazing graphics and sound quality will become apparent in many of the games this year and beyond. I have also enjoyed several games that are downloadable. The games have enhanced hd graphics and are affordable at only $7.99-$9.99. Some games like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Warhawk are $39.99. What I have enjoyed is online gaming. With the PS3 you don't have to pay any added fees. The gameplay was seamless and quick and allows you to use a blue tooth headset when playing. You can also use a PS2 headset via USB. The online gaming is virtually the same as the 360. The PS Eye is an amazing device which shows some interactive capibilities. There are several games on the PSN which take advantage of the features. By using the camera it can sense body movement and put it into a game.

Lastly I will cover the online features of the PS3. On the interface online is a big part. From the browser to having friends and checking your mail. Of course the largest feature is the Playstation store. The Playstation store has upgraded it's look and is now very easy to navigate. The 360 has XBox Live which could be considered the pedigree for consoles. The Wii is limited to just classic video games. The Playstation store is decent right now with very numerous items to download. You have games, demos, and movie trailers, themes and wallpaper that you can use to customize your PS3. The store will continue to grow and has a nice feature that allows you to dowload PSone games for the Playstation Portable (PSP). After dowloading it to your PS3 then you transfer it via USB to your PSP. Also a very intriguing feature that I think is really amazing is called remote play. When your PSP is integrated into your PS3 you have the ability to view and listen to stuff on your PS3 anywhere in the world with your PSP. All you need is a wifi connection. I have tried this feature out and it's really enjoyable. I was able to view movie trailers and listen to my music on my PSP. The feature is nice although it is supposed to work when the PS3 is on standby. The PS3 has a few games available that you can actually play on your PSP in the remote play mode.

There are also two features that are becoming more apparent for owners. Folding at Home is a beneficial program that works with Stanford University. The program runs when your PS3 is idle. What it does is run computations that help scientists work for many cures to diseases. A beneficial plus to the PS3. I can vouch for having my PS3 on nonstop 24 hours a day 7 days a week for many months without any problems. Secondly I want to talk about HOME. No not your real home but the PS3 program that will be available late 2008. This program will be a virtual online social interface allowing you to meet numerous other PS3 players. I have been allowed to participate on the Beta version and I must say this has extreme potential.

The dual shock controller is a very nice added feature to this PS3. The dual shock is just like the previous PS3 controller with one big bonus. Now you get rumble in games. Many games already support this feature and I am here to tell you this controller is superb. The charge lasts for about 20 hours and charging it is as easy as connecting a USB cord to your PS3.

2008 is becoming an exciting year for PS3 owners. Many excellent games have already been released like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Hot Shots Golf, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Singstar. The experience is already excellent with over a dozen very good games. The PS3 will have over a half dozen exclusive games releasing in the next year. Games like Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, and Final Fantasy are just the beginning. If any of these games suit you it would be an excellent reason to own a PS3.

In closing I will say without a doubt the PS3 has been quite an experience. I feel the $500 is well worth it for the features you get. Wifi, Bluray, free online gaming, HDMI, and of course the game playing.
I believe many of you are on the fence and trying to justify a large scale purchase like this. The games are here and the experience is superb. If you want a wonderful living room centerpiece that will provide numerous hours of use the PS3 is the way to go.

What makes this PS3 special is the game that it comes bundled with: Metal Gear Solid 4. A game that is receiving superb reviews and being titled as a revolutionary game. Some have called it the best game in many years. For fans of the series and people who have never given Metal Gear Solid a try this game should be a must have.

Updated***I have taken the time to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and can say the reviews are right. This game is superb. It is the best game on the PS3 and probably the best game on any console this year.

  • The perfect enterntainment console

    By A189VNOYNTHFTR on 2008-06-17
First of all, this is my second PS3 console. I already own the original Sony 60GB PS3 version and for a long time, I have wanted a second one to have in my bedroom as a Blu-ray player and to play certain games I can't play with my newborn around the house (i.e. Metal Gear Solid 4).

I love this console so much. As a media center, it does almost everything. It is the only gaming console to be fully Divx certified. And obviously, it plays back Blu-ray movies. In fact, it is probably still the best Blu-ray player you can purchase today. The gaming library has improved quite a bit since the original launch of the console.

I've been looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 4 for quite a long time. It was well worth the wait. I didn't think I would be a fan of the Dual Shock 3 controller as I usually could care less for rumble but it actually works well with Metal Gear Solid 4 and it weighs more than the original Sixaxis controller. For me, it is the perfect weight, better than the Sixaxis which I always though was too lite.

I would have hoped they would have fixed a couple of annoyances by now. First of all, the USB cable is too short. You won't be able to really play a game while charging your controller unless you don't mind standing right in front of the tv. They should really make the USB cable longer. Why in 2008 is Sony still shipping the PS3 with composite cables? They could have at least shipped it with component video cables. It could be my imagination but it seems as if my 80GB PS3 is slightler less noisier than the 60GB I own. I don't know if this means the 80GB uses the smaller cooler cell processor but it would be great if it did.

The 80GB hard drive can really fill up fast but fortunately, Sony was kind enough to allow a user to easily swap the hard drive out for any notebook sized SATA hard drive. I upgraded my Macbook Pro hard drive to a 320GB hard drive and transferred the old Macbook Pro hard drive to my 60GB Sony PS3. I may upgrade the hard drive on this 80GB PS3 soon as well.

Some people do not like the fact that the PS3 uses Bluetooth for it's remote contol. For me, this is better since it allows me to hide the PS3 out of sight where it doesn't clutter up space and also makes the console sound less audible while watching movies or playing games.

In summary, you can't go wrong with the Sony PS3, especially when you order from Amazon. I also own a Nintendo Wii (sold my Xbox 360 because of the RRoD). I think it really compliments the Nintendo Wii a lot and fills in where the Nintendo Wii lacks. Aside from the gripes I made earlier, I also would have preferred if Sony would have upgraded the wireless controller to N instead of G. This would allow me to stream HD content wirelessly. But it's not that big of deal because a lot of times, I just copy content to my PS3 hard drive. Oh yes, I have a large collection of PS2 games and so far, they seem to be working although I have not had a chance to try all of them.

  • PS3 Metal Gear Solid Bundle - Premium Bundle for Gaming and Entertainment

    By A17BUUBOU0598B on 2008-06-26
I was happy when Sony lowered the price on their Playstation 3 40GB, but it took until they released this PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack for me to pull the trigger. Not only do you get the PS3 with all the cool stuff that's included with it and an 80 GB hard drive, but you also get latest in a great game franchise with Metal Gear Solid 4.

For starters, setup was pretty straight forward. If you look at the technical details and product details you will see plenty of inputs and outputs and built-in hardware features including wireless. It only took me just over an hour to get it all hooked up with my home entertainment center and home network.

Obviously, most people get the PS3 for pure gaming. Even though there are still not as many games as for the Xbox360, many of the games that are out there are awesome. For now, you don't have to worry about the cost of Xbox Live when it comes to online play. Most XBox Live people get yearly subscriptions that bring down that monthly cost, especially if you pick them up on sale. Still, I like Sony's model better, though I've heard they are thinking of going to a subscription model in the near future. I hope they don't, but we'll see.

It's also no secret you can play BluRay disks on this guy. With BluRay players like the Sony BDP-S301 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player BD/DVD/CD Playback with Bonus HDMI Cable going for just under what the PS3 will cost you, it's no wonder some people buy this as their BR player. The cost will hopefully come down eventually, but now that HD DVD is gone it probably won't come down fast enough.

Being able to use this guy as a media player and collect music and video files on it is also a nice plus. The XBox 360 does this too, and I personally like those functions on that guy better. But that's mainly because I am a heavy Windows Media Center user and like being able to integrate the 360. Still, the amount of stuff you can do with this guy is too much to count.

I can't comment on reliability first hand yet, since this bundle is pretty new to me. I have definitely heard more complaints about the 360 in terms of durability.

While the PS3 does cost a little more for the games and hardware than the 360 or Wii, it does give you more built-in hardware features out of the box. Once you buy the Xbox 360 Elite Bundle and all the extras you need to give it similar features, the cost is about the same or higher.

I'm definitely glad I got this. If you can get this bundle, it's probably a better value than the base unit.

    Enjoy!

  • Super, Fantastic Deal

    By ADR0RTH0LUT66 on 2008-06-08
The well demanded 80 gig is back, with a vengeance: Metal Gear Solid 4.

    Let's start on SKU differences:

So maybe you're on the fence about buying a cheaper 400 dollar 40 gig SKU or a 500 dollar 80 gig bundle? Well, for PS2 owners wanting to upgrade: the 40 gig SKU has ZERO PS2 game compatability, while the 80 gig has PS2 game compatability using the emulation engine. Although the emulation engine isn't as good as the 60 gig's emotion engine, it has compatibility with most titles.
On Sony's site, you can check to see what games will work on it:
    http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

    Blu ray capabilities -

As you probably know, Blu ray has won the hi def war, so it's pretty much future proof in hi def movie department. How is it different from DVD? Incredible pristine picture quality up to 1080p (top of the line in picture resolution) compared to 480p from DVDs, clearer and crisper sound, more content including DLC via BD LIVE, scratch resistance, and more ways to show off to your friends about your top of the line lifestyle.

Blu ray features: Dual layer blu rays can hold 50 gigs worth of data (compared to 9 gigs from a standard DVD). What this means for games? Potentiality for a longer game, better sound, bigger maps, and better textures. Also, not to mention that being more scratch resistant helps a lot, especially when renting games. I hate it when I had to rent PS2 and Xbox 360 games and have to exchange it to the store because of awful scratches. Well, with PS3 games, this will be a another great convenience to you, not having to deal with any of that. Apparently, Metal Gear Solid 4 is using every single one of these 50 gigs of space on the disc, and is the first one to do so. Past games like Ratchet and Uncharted only used the single layer BR which held 25 gigs.

    Online gaming:

Free and sweet! Although of course, DLC and games you have to pay for, but online works as good as you'd expect. Some games even have dedicated servers like Resistance which can hold 40 players and have ZERO lag. Currently, you can't message people in game, but it will be up in the next update, which will be very soon!

Although the store is already slick and great looking as it is, much more stuff is promised to us - Playstation home coming out later this year, and a movie download service is coming soon. And best of all, unlike Xbox Live, these updates and additions are absolutely free! You really have to appreciate two things here: FREE and Sony for keeping it updated and free.

    Games:
With tons of great titles already here and tons more coming along the way, the ps3 will definitely keep you enjoying yourself nonstop while looking forward to new and more exciting titles as well.

Games that I recommend are - Resistance: Fall of Man, Folklore, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Grand theft auto 4, Devil May Cry 4, MotorStorm, Fight Night round 3, Madden 08.

Games coming up to look forward to - Metal Gear Solid 4 (Heck! The reason I and most others bought a PS3!), Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, LittleBigPlanet, Bioshock, Silent Hill 5, Valkyria Chronicles, inFAMOUS, LA Noire, White Knight Chrnoicles and a whole lot to look forward to.

    Final thoughts:

So should you get it or not? Well, if you're a fan of games, and/or hi def movies - the PS3 is the one to get.
Reasons why you should get this bundle:

    8. It's currently one of the cheapest blu ray players available.
    7. Free online
    6. Plenty of great games and more great games to come
    5. Reliable console - No major hardware failure issue like the RROD of the Xbox 360
    4. Motorized sliding front panel and touch pad are cool
    3. Strong, scratch resistant blu ray discs
    2. Backwards compatibility with most PS2 titles.
AND #1. Metal Gear Freakin' Solid 4 is included for free! What MORE can you ask for!!?? Many people bought the PS3 at 599 when it first came out just for this game alone!

  • Awesome

    By A2NMNKTDMW7EK5 on 2008-06-06
I've had a PS3 since launch and this value is great. You get MGS4, which is being touted as being one of the best games ever by many reviewers, a DualShock 3 controller, and an 80-GB PS3.

Great gaming system. Here are the main features:

    - 80 GB of HDD storage. Easy to upgrade, and doesn't void the warranty. Sony actually has the directions in the manual.
    - Free online play on dedicated servers. Resistance/Warhawk are one of the best experiences online.
    - Built-in wireless card. I play online wirelessly with no lag.
    - Blu-ray disc playback. 25 GB per layer... and many games coming out this year will be on 50-GB discs (Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, etc.).
    - PSP/PS3 connectivity. You can access your PS3 media from anywhere in the world using the PSP. Other features too.
    - Motion-sensing controllers with rumble.
    - Built-in multi-card reader.
    - The CELL BE. 4.5x more powerful than even the new quad-core processors from Intel. Great for physics, AI, lighting, etc. in games.
    - Bluetooth connectivity. Great for headsets and keyboards/mice.
    - Upscales DVDs to 1080p via HDMI. (SCE engineers have said they will even improve that by 40% when it's all said and done.)
    - Upscales PS1 and PS2 games to up to 1080p resolution.
    - Rechargeable controllers right out of the box (Li-ion batteries already included). No need for extra devices or battery-purchasing.
    - HDMI 1.3 support.
    - Web browser built-in.
    - DivX Certified.
    - Stream media content from your PC through the TV wirlessly.
    - RELIABLE. Less than 1% (Some have said 0.2%) defect rate. It's not loud whatsoever.
    - Open online system. User-generated content in upcoming games open and free to download. (e.g. Unreal Tournament III and LittleBigPlanet)
    - Great support from Sony. Weekly content updates on the PS Store, and constant firmware updates to add features and improve system performance.

IT'S 500 DOLLARS (In response to a previous review). It doesn't come out until the 12th of June. Amazon will sell it new for 500.

  • They are getting there ...
    By AOGFM6THNA6DA on 2008-07-07
Well, I finally bought the PS3, mainly because of the BluRay player. And for that, it works great. However, I own a Xbox 360 as well, and when it comes to games and online play the 360 is superior in every way. Sony is slowly catching up though, but there are many features that just feel under developed. For example, the built-in web browser seems old, it doesn't play new flash files or silverlight websites. It's a good console, but when it comes to a gaming, the 360 is the one to get, it's cheaper, there are more games, more exclusives. If you want a decent BluRay player, you can't go wrong with the PS3.

  • NOT $899
    By ADQANIRXPXR1Y on 2008-06-06
Guys you should really learn to READ! $899 Is not Amazon's price, It's the other sellers price, this Is going to sell out pretty much anywhere that's why people and other retailers are going to be selling It that high. Wait for Amazon to actually ship and sell the item, honestly I think they'll be selling it at $499.99 just like every other console release.

And by the way, this Is the piano black version, not the Gun Metal Grey PS3, that one you can only get from Konami's website.

  • Don't pay $899
    By AS77P49PZ1J5Q on 2008-06-06
Wait for the actual release when amazon releases the system. The 899 is nearly double the actual price. Don't get ripped off. Wait til thursday.

  • A Fantasic System and a Multimedia Powerhouse
    By A21KFL6YUM13ER on 2008-06-19
This bundle finally completes my trio of next gen gaming consoles. As I started up the PS3, I must say I was initially impressed. The PS3 is a great compliment to any home theater enthusiast out there.

    What I liked.
-Steaming video/mp3/pictures from your computer home network.
-Blu-Ray playback in glorious Hi Def. (Although I though HD DVD was better for consumers but that's another story)
-Card readers for all you photo junkies.
    -Built in Wi-fi.
    -Free online play.
-Rechargeable battery built into the DS3 controller.
-No ugly power brick hanging from the back of the PS3.
-Ability to change out the HDD with ease.
-Much more reliable then the Xbox 360 but to say there are no issues w/ the PS3 is a lie.
-Exclusives like MGS4 and FFXIII sometime in the far distant future.

    What I didn't like.
-The fan kicks in at times. Unfortunately this is the previous 90nm chipset that was formerly the Motorstorm bundle. Although not nearly as loud as the Xbox 360, it can still be bothersome.
-Installs, Installs, Installs. Almost everything needs to be installed. You download a demo - install. You update your PS3 - install. You buy a new game - install. I'm a game collector with over 30 Xbox 360 games and can't imagine how big a HDD I would need if they all needed to be installed. Plus, there are no noticeable difference in loading time or anything.
-Pathetic PSN content. The Xbox Live Marketplace REALLY puts the Playstation Network to shame. Not to mention it is noticeably slower. A firmware update on the PS3 can take up to 15 minutes while on the Xbox 360, it'll take just about 15 seconds.
-The controller. Three generations of Playstations and they still can't update the controller. In fact, the new L2,R2 buttons are very uncomfortable and unnatural.

With all that being said, the PS3 is not perfect but still an amazing system. Will it take over my Xbox 360 as my primary gaming machine? Absolutely not. In my honest opinion of 20 years of gaming, the Xbox 360 reign supreme this generation. However, thats not to say the PS3 doesn't have any good games. I am thoroughly enjoying MGS4, Warhawk, and Hot Shots Golf.

If you're looking to build upon your home entertainment center, I would highly recommend this bundle. Like I said, its a multimedia monster that'll keep you busy for a very long time as you tinker with all the settings and features. It is the best and one of the cheapest Blu Ray players on the market. And of course, it comes with one of the most epic games this generation has to offer. But if you're purely looking for the greatest library of games this generation, I encourage you to consider the Xbox 360.

  • A Review from an Xbox 360 Owner
    By A1D2NDKVAS8NG1 on 2008-07-12
As the title suggests, I own a 360. I have read and studied graphic comparisons, reviews and more between the two systems as long as they have been out. Until this game came out (MGS4) I was not planning on getting a Ps3 anytime soon. As someone that uses every feature my 360 has, this is my views and my impression on the Ps3 system as well as the game itself.

    ::=:: THE PS3 SYSTEM::=::

First I want to start with the ps3. I always heard good things about the system itself but that was never enough to make me go out and get one. The game selection for the 360 always attracted me, but now, especially with the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, it's a great time to pick one up. I use my laptop's Windows Media Center with my 360 to stream a huge amount of videos I have to my TV, which I honestly never expected the ps3 to be able to do, but it does. This was an awesome surprise. Not only does it detect my laptop, but also it sees the 5 other computers on my network that are sharing content and I can access them all! Not only that, I can access them from my ps3 remotely with my PSP through any WIFI connection. It's a weird feeling to be able to stream videos from your Laptop that is wirelessly connected to your Ps3 at home, while you are miles away on a handheld. The HDMI connection displaying everything at 1080P is breathtaking and blue ray movies truly do look stunning. The game menu is actually rather simple as well, but in a good way. It lays out everything in front of you but though it does that, it doesn't clutter you with content. You don't feel overwhelmed at all with the menus.

The games on the system look stunning. I have read countless reviews for games that go cross platform and I will admit; games like Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and other cross platform titles do have better texture quality on the 360 but games that are literally designed for the Ps3 are amazing. I currently have Heavenly Sword and MGS4 (duh) and I have not seen graphics and draw distances like these on the 360. The power of this system seems limitless right now, and the games made specifically for it show it. The system also has Bluetooth built in, which lets me take my Bluetooth headset and merely hook it up to my system to use in games like Metal Gear Solid 4's online multiplayer. The backwards compatibility on the system works without a hitch, though I have had some lag with Metal Gear Solid 3. Apparently these new Ps3 systems merely emulate the Ps2 instead of how it worked with the old systems which actually had the real Ps2 emotion chip built in. This is why MGS3 lags on this system when it wouldn't lag on the original Ps3 systems.

Overall for the system this is an amazing deal. You get the 80 gig system which use to be $600 for $100 less but it also comes with a new release (and likely the best game the system has seen yet), and a duel shock 3 controller. That's nuts! I wouldn't suggest just buying the system by itself, but this deal is worth it. Now that I have the system I am finding more titles I wouldn't mind owning, so if you're a 360 fan, this system IS actually for you.

    ::=:: Metal Gear Solid 4 - Son's of the Patriots::=::

To date, as a person that is actually heavily into game development, I have not seen nor played a game that looks better, is more polished, and more innovative as this one. This game shouldn't even be referred to as a game, as it should merely be addressed to the public as an "Experience." Anyone that grew up with Snake and his adventures will get an experience out of this game that cannot be missed and expressed in words.

    :~::GRAPHICS::~:

What can I say about the graphics that hasn't already been said? The two words that come to mind are: ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS. Every "cinema" isn't even a video it's merely in game play being shown through cameras set at different angles. The Environments, player models, weapons, lighting is all top notch!

    SCORE: 10/10

    :~::STORY::~:

Every inch of this story is great and it ties up every loose end the series has. The story is told so that every cinema is well worth watching and no matter what you think you know, there are always new events that change EVERYTHING even until the last credit rolls (and afterward so watch on past the credits). Each character is built up well and has a lot of back-story to them. Since the story is so serious, there are a ton of Easter eggs to look forward to that not only make you laugh but make you enjoy the experience even more.

    SCORE: 10/10

    :~::GAMEPLAY::~:

As I sit here and write this, I am actually smirking because as someone who has beat the game and then has to describe the gameplay...well, there's no way to really do it without sounding like a gitty school girl. The polish and fine-tuning was immense. The stealth, camo, guns, customization, levels/environments, voice acting, story; everything involved in gameplay deserves more than a 10. You never get bored, and though the levels are a bit linier, you can beat through this game dozens of times and still have some extra to shoot for while having unique experiences each time.

    SCORE: 10/10

    :~::SOUND::~:

The voice acting was done by some serious talent and it shows. David Hayter (Solid Snake) does a beautiful job. This was definitely a step up from the first Metal Gear Solid. You have Phil La Marr (Vamp) who does the voice of Hermes in Futurama. The list goes on. Anyhow, the music, sound FX and voices are just outstanding and really help the game flow.
    SCORE: 10/10

    OVERALL: 10/10

If you are looking to buy a ps3, this is an amazing deal. If you are looking to buy Metal Gear Solid 4, it's an amazing game. If you don't have either of these items, get this bundle right now!

  • Replace my 360 with a PS3
    By A30NLXI7WDY9MY on 2008-08-19
    PS3 Pros
-On the PS3 online gaming is Free. They are not charging you 50 bucks a year so you can play online. Should be free in the first place.
    -Bluray Player included
-Upconverting to 1080P assuming you have a Full HD TV and use HDMI
    -7.1
-No advertising all over the dashboard like MS does
    -No Overheating
Now most of the games that are coming out on the xbox360 are coming on the PS3
-You can upgrade your drive (you must use a SATA laptop hard drive. 5400 RPM is recommended as the firmware sets the read write access speed)
    -It is Quiet
-Don't have to buy a wireless adapter it comes with it. almost 100 bucks for the xbox 360
-The unit can read xvid and divx.
-Controller Rumbles. Just make sure you have patched your games. (without the patch the controller doesn't rumble if you play Resistance).
-The graphics are as good as the one's on thexbox360 (if not better). As matter of fact I'm not a convert I'm just going with what is better for my wallet and gives me more. With the latest firware the PS3 really delivers. IT is only going to get better.
AND THE BEST FOR THE LAST
It comes with Folding@home. Love that feature

Cons: My PS3 does about everything but doesn't wash my dishes. Sigh

I sold my 360 because that piece of junk died on me after 6 months. Had to ship it back to ms and was without a console for a month. Bought a second one and that one died too.
I'm so done with the 360. I had some great moment on the xbox dont get me wrong but it is time to move on.
Too much advertising on the dashboard...anoying.
For the people paying the 50 bucks it should be advertising free.

  • Best bundle you can get
    By A2MHZNCGVI79U7 on 2008-06-16
Amazing bundle and a great way to get into Playstation 3. MGS4 is a must have game - I just beat it yesterday and the story is simply phenomenal, and the gameplay is fantastic. I have since been playing the online component of the game - Metal Gear Online. It is an excellent multiplayer game that is well developed and not just put in as an afterthought.

I just tried my library of 20 PS2 games (mostly final fantasy, gran turismo, metal gear, and god of war) and they all work fine. so backward compatibility is not an issue.

setting everything up was so easy - connected to my wireless network with no problem and easily picked up my home media server so i can watch the videos on my computer hard drive on my TV. also connected via HDMI to my onkyo 605 surround receiver and it is confirmed to send 7.1 DTS-HD MA to my receiver with the newest PS3 update which took a few minutes to download.

all in all a fantastic system. if you can find this bundle somewhere GET IT. i was lucky and got in on the deal from amazon. you cannot go wrong with this bundle.

  • What Idiot would pay $899.00
    By A1S5QI3DD5D9XR on 2008-06-09
Every Walmart will have this avalable and some have already ignored the street date of 6/12, Walmart will also give you a $100.00 gift card. I also know that Best Buy will have plenty on hand and if you get there when they open, you will get one. You can also go to Circuit City and pre order. The person that spends $899.00 for this is a LOSER!

  • 80GB and PS2 games
    By A23W5ZMFYWXLT4 on 2008-06-07
Everyone is going back and forth about 80GB PS3's being able to play PS2 games. Here's the real info: the 80GB version has a software emulator that allows the playback of MOST PS2 games, while the 60GB version has specific hardware (called the Emotion Engine) built into it that allows the playback of ALL PS2 games. The 40GB version lacks both the emulation software and the Emotion Engine, therefore completely lacking backwards compatibility.

To find out if a certain game is compatible with the 80GB version, Sony has put up a website. Search for "ps3 backwards compatibility" on google, and go to the first result. I can't seem to get the URL in this review.

  • Pretty Good for the money you pay
    By A16I37X9PVWK5C on 2008-07-09
I must say that the bundle really is a good value. I've played through the first 2 acts in MGS4 and it's been great. Dualshock is much better than the sixaxis. Backwards compatibility is not an issue for me, nor is the memory card ports. The extra 2 usb ports are convenient though.

The reason I give it 4 stars though, is because I had a 40 GB ps3 for a couple days before I got this. The 40 gig one was much much quieter than the 80 gig, i guess because the 40 gig had the 65 nm chipset while the 80 gig has the 90 nm chipset. My 40 gig's fan hardly ever turned on, but the 80 gig seems to be on a low fan setting from the start. MGS4 seems to be a resource hog, so after about an hour of playing, the fan goes onto the high setting.

That is my only complaint though. In comparison to my xbox 360, the ps3 running on the high fan is still much quieter.

  • Great Game System for the Price!
    By ARVMUHP8YSMSW on 2008-07-24
I must admit, I didn't buy this bundle game system because of Metal Gear Solid 4. I purchased it, because of three other factors:

    1. Its more cost effective than purchasing the 40 gig PS3. You get a dual shock controller with vibration, 40 more gig hard drive, ability to play 70% of PS2 games and of course a free game, all for $499. If you purchased the 40 gig PS3 at $399, you'll still have to buy a game at $60, which is $459. So, for an extra $40 bucks, you get all the extra bells and whistles. Anybody that has any common sense knows this is a better deal.

    2. When I purchased this bundle, I got no payments or finance charges for 18 months. So in essences, I'm paying less than $30 a month, which is a sweet deal. I'll pay it off before the 18 months is over. That's the only way I would have paid over $500 for a game.

    3. God of War 3 is coming out next year and by the time its out, I would have paid off my PS3. Don't get me wrong, from what I heard, the Metal Gear Solid series, including number 4 is a great series. And I have Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3. I just haven't played them yet, so before I start playing MGS4, I'll play 2 & 3.

For right now, the system works great. I have no complaints. I placed mine in my entertainment stand. The PS3 does get very warm. So, I cut a hole in the back of the shelve, where the PS3 sits and brought a very small, but powerful fan from Wal-mart and placed it outside the back of the shelve, where the PS3 sits, and the fan pull all of the warm air out through the back of my stand. Kind-of-like a homemade ventilation system and it works great! I had considered buying these attachable "cooling" fans for my PS3, however, I heard so many conflicting information about them, that I decided to make my own. Which I'm happy I did. The fan from Wal-mart only cost me $5 bucks. The other "cooling" devices cost as much as $30 bucks, so I saved even more money. Thank God! With high gas prices I can stand to save every dime I get.

I only play my PS3 about 3-4 hours a week, and I'm still playing my first PS3 game (Medal of Honor Airborne, I purchased it with my bundle). I like to master a game before moving on to the next game. But for any person the want something to do during some down time or a serious gamer, I would recommend this system to you.

I have been waiting for this bundle to come out for months and now I just got through ebgames. Amazon is so slow for pre-order. Ebgames already put up pre-order deal. Go get one if you're a true fan of MGS series. This game is going to be awesome! Play hard, live happy!!

  • PS3 80 GB little known secrets
    By A10675K46J1VJA on 2008-06-26
For my 50th birthday my wife bought me the new MetalGear PS3 pack. I was little worried about the cost and backward compatability for PS2 games. My library is over 75PS2 and 25PS1 titles. I typed in every title in at the PS3 support site and only found one that was not on the list. I had about 15 that had some kind of issues mentioned. I tried most of these and found they played fine and did not see anything that was a show stopper. The interesting thing is that some of the big titles like GOW, GT3, and ICO had some slow down issues. I did have to buy a $15 connector to down load my PS1 and PS2 files. You can create as many virtual memory cards as you want. The only negative here is that the original date and time of the save is not copied over. I also used the default memory card slot to download my digital pics off my SD card and had a slide show going in minutes. My family enjoyed this much more then viewing on the family computer. I had no problems with setup or hooking up to the net using my wireless router.

So what are the secrets! 1)Your PS2 component cable is compatibale with your PS3 and will give you your 1080i/p resolution. So you do not need an HDMI cable for high resolution. The only reason you need an HDMI cable is if you have a 7.1 sound system. The component cable supports 5.1 and so does the fiber optic cable. 2)Your PS3 displays PS2 and PS1 games better then the old systems do. That's correct. All the horizontal lines that you get with the old systems are gone because it's displayed in 1080i/p. If you have GOW or FFXII you will not believe how nice it looks. There is even an option in the setup to allow full screen if you don't mind the stretched graphics.

So I am very pleased with my PS3, so what is it that I don't care for. 1) The game catlogue is still poor for as long as it's been out. The XBOX360 has the games of choice at this time. 2)The online store has little to offer. 3)The system heat is excessive and so is the fan noise. Do not place this unit in or under things for your own sake. I placed it on top of my entertainment console so the heat can desipate quickly.

    Summary:
+ looks, controller, blue-ray, compatibility, graphics, quality
    - game choices, online, heat

So if you have been waiting to pick up a PS3, I would pick up this 80gig box set and enjoy your old catalogue in a new way and enjoy several next gen games.

  • ripoff
    By A3BRLNFJLJAZV2 on 2008-06-05
THIS amazon deal is such a ripoff. Im a new yorker and the same thing comes in gamestop or bestbuy for 499.99 + tax

  • Excellent Deal!
    By A3HCPOHB19JMRT on 2008-06-06
So is it really the 80GB version the one that Amazon is going to sell today? If that is true then I think is a great price but what about the compatibility issue? Amazon says it can play all PS One and PS2 titles without a problem but SONY says otherwise. Who's right? The official word from SONY? Also, what about the MGS4 that comes with the bundle? Is the standard version as it looks in the picture and how is the PS3 going to look like? The metal gray finish or just regular black like other customer asks? Anyway, can't wait to play this great title that Mr. Kojima has prepared for MGS fans all over the world. He rockZ!

  • Extremely happy! Best time to buy a PS3!
    By AUQSX3AKCJA11 on 2008-06-12
There's a lot that has been said about the Playstation 3 that I don't need to add. So here, I believe I will comment on the setup and interface of the system.

When you first get this specific box, it arrives very well packaged with a lot of bubble wrap. I opened the box, and right on top was the Metal Gear Solid 4 game and a disc containing information on other Playstation products. Also near the top was the new Dualshock 3 controller. In an insert on the side of the box was the A/V cord, ethernet cable, USB cord, and AC plug. Comfortably snuggled within a cardboard insert and a soft wrapping was the PS3 itself.

Following the instructions, I first connected it to my TV via the HDMI cable (not included), the ethernet plug into my router, and the A/C plug into my power strip. There were options for connecting digital audio as well, but unfortunately, I do not have one of those plugs in my stereo receiver, so, no surround sound for now. :( That's okay. I turned it on and it started up fine.

It instructed me to plug the USB cord into the PS3 and connect it to the controller. The PS3 found the controller immediately and it started up. I then calibrated my video, audio, and internet settings. After that, I registered for the Playstation network (I had trouble getting it to accept my credit card), and then I was good to go! I spent the rest of the night exploring the machine, tinkering with settings, etc...

I then hopped right into my first game, Guitar Hero III, and it was a blast! My TV speakers are quite good, so I don't even think I'll need the surround sound. The guitar controller was very easy to connect, and I love the way the machine turns on and off. You can control it all with the wireless controller, which is an awesome feature that I didn't even know existed.

The machine is whisper quiet, and will never distract you from gaming or movies. It looks beautiful in my display as well. Like the PS2, it has the option of being stored both vertically and horizontally. I have it horizontally right now, and I think I will keep it that way.

So, bottom line is, if you want to take the plunge to a PS3, I think this is the right time to do it, especially since you get Metal Gear Solid 4 for free. I haven't tried it yet, because I want to play through the three previous ones before I do. I've played 1 and 2, but never 3. I'm looking forward to it. I'll see you on the Playstation Network. This is awesome!!!

  • Long time Xbox fan finally gets a Playstation
    By A2QPK5DDL1YHNS on 2008-06-19
I have never actually owned a Playstation of any kind before purchasing the MGS4 80GB bundle. I have owned an Xbox console since they first came out, but have never had the money or the interest to take the PS plunge. Now that I'm finally in Sony's boat, I can say I regret not making the move sooner. While I still don't think it's as user-friendly as the 360, this IS an amazing system. Everything looks and sounds great. I'd say this is well worth the $500. The console itself seriously puts the 360 to shame. It looks slick and futuristic while the 360 looks positively archaic next to it. As a lot of people have pointed out, it is inexcusable that Sony only includes composite cables. That really isn't a knock on this system, just a general failure by Sony. This package is well worth the price and is a great entertainment investment for anyone.

I've been backlogged with the 360 game library for a while and now that I have the entire PS3 game library to catch up on......ugh. I have so much gaming goodness ahead, I don't know what to do with myself.

  • Best Game Console
    By A1NT4N28EUR8H3 on 2008-07-30
I am an XBOX360 owner. However, I have been wanting to get a PS3 for some time. The backwards compatibility (BC) was not as big a concern to me as getting a Dual Shock Controller. When I purchased this unit with the BC, Dual Shock 3 controller and MGS4, I fell in love. The quality of this unit is by far, one of the best consoles I ever had. The 1080P picture it produces is beautiful. The Blu-ray movies are very nice. I do not know about others, but the one thing I notice most was the amount of noise between my 360 and the PS3. The PS3 even on high fan is far less noise than my 360. I am not sure how I have never noticed it during gaming and movies, but with both being present, what a difference. I recently have upgraded my PS3 to a 320-gig disk for $99. I think MS is crazy to ask the price they do for their disk. Now I have both and may, just may, switch completely over to the PS3. Great system, great games... You will love it.

  • Awesome Blu-ray Player and Media Server
    By A284BOKGHH60VX on 2008-07-02
I am not a big gamer and mainly bought this because it's a Blu-ray player and media server. I already have a Panasonic DMP-BD30K but wanted to get a second player for the bedroom. I was actually considering another DMP-BD30K but they are still more expensive than what I paid about 6 months ago before Blu-ray won the battle. The thing keeping me away from the Playstation 3 in the first place was the Bluetooth remote and the lack of DTS HD at all before the update and the fact that it still won't bitstream any of the HD formats. I have an Onkyo receiver that decodes them so it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling to see the audio formats in it's display. I was also kind of waiting for the new Panasonic DMP-BD50 but after seeing the price I said forget it. I decided to give the Playstation 3 another look now that they at least can decode DTS HD. I was really interested in the media server all along because I have a tape based HD camcorder and with no Blu-ray burner yet it is hard to watch my videos on the TV unless I want to hook up the camera and mess with tapes. I do have a DirecTV HD DVR that has a media server built in but it is very buggy so far and only supports a few formats. If this 80GB model was readily available I thought it was a no brainer to get it for the bigger HD, dual shock 3 controller and the game it comes with even though like I said I am not a big gamer. But since I didn't feel like running around town or camping out somewhere or waiting until they became readily available I decided I was fine with the 40GB model. I normally buy everything online but I had a gift card for Best Buy so I decided to buy it there even though the tax ate up most of the gift card. So I ask the guy if he can get me one out of the cage and while he is getting the keys I ask almost rhetorically if he has any of the 80GB models buried somewhere. He turns around and kind of looks at me and asks if I want one. I of course say why yes I do. He tells me they just got 66 in and haven't even received them yet but that he can go in the back and get me one. I say pretty please. So anyway I got very lucky there. So I have to say this thing is awesome. The media server is great I can play all kinds of videos from the HD Mpeg 2 stuff that I have transfered to my computer from my camcorder, DVDs that I have ripped to my HD, pictures, music, you name it. It also plays Blu-rays way better than my Panasonic DMP-BD30K. The quality looks the same but skipping chapters and fast forwarding and rewinding works way better and less clunky, about as good as regular DVDs did on DVD players. Downloading trailers and stuff from the internet with it is fun too. I messed around with Metal Gear Solid for a while. It took me probably an hour to get it all installed and download updates and register for an online account. I am not used to the console controls since I normally play PC based games and on the easiest setting I couldn't do anything but get killed so I gave up for now. Even though I can't control the Playstation 3 with my universal remote, the Bluetooth remote is awesome not having to have a line of sight. Some of the down sides are this thing uses up to 380 watts of power where a normal player only uses like 10 watts or something like that. It puts out a lot of heat. The 40 GB model uses a newer architecture that actually uses less power and runs cooler. I have an enclosed cabinet but it is pretty big and it has it's own shelf with a lot of air space around it so I thought it would be OK but I got the overheat message in like 10 minutes so I had to cut two 3" diameter holes in the back of the cabinet right behind it. If it does get warm the fans are super loud but they aren't bad at their lowest setting if it doesn't get too warm. If you have a receiver that decodes the HD audio codecs you won't be able to make use of it since this thing won't bitstream them. It will probably take a while to teach the wife how to watch a Blu-ray again. She has a hard enough time with the standalone player and this thing is a lot more complicated. I definitely wish I would have bought this thing a long time ago though. I am loving it so far. It is almost as good as having a stand alone media center PC. If you can live with the few small draw backs this thing is a killer deal since they are banking on making their money on the games.

  • PS 3 IS THE BEST GADGET EVER
    By A2FTN7F5YR4SNM on 2008-08-01
PS3 is quite possibly the greatest invention since the printing press, sliced bread, the DVR, the iPod, the personal computer and Bratz. Really now... This thing is just flat out awesome and is worth every penny. Go out and buy one now. Do not wait. Your food, rent and clothing can wait. This is much more a need than a want.

  • Pre-Order From GameStop (or somewhere else)
    By A3MOGPST3AKTDM on 2008-06-08
I'm a bit annoyed that the only options for purchasing this is from reseller (who have dramatically increased the price). I'd really like to buy this from Amazon as it's truly the best option for online shopping. But since I can't I'm pre-ordering through Gamestop at the $559 price.

I really wish Amazon would promote these 3rd party retailers who are just jacking up the costs. Not cool. I was super disappointed when I got the email saying 'the title is now available' only to find out it's just a 3rd party rip-off.

  • $2,450?!?!?!?!
    By A36Z5QPJ8JUQEU on 2008-06-12
What's with people trying to rip people off?? I can appreciate someone trying to make a small profit....but $2450??? Oh wait....they did threw in a free remote control. WTF!!!

Geez, you can buy a freakin' 1080P HDTV, 40 GB PS3, Metal Gear Solid game and Grand Theft Auto for that price and have some money left over for some wings. Be real people....is backward compatibility really that important?? For some yes....but it's not worth $2450.

As for the system itself, it totally rocks!!! I was blown away by the graphics of the games and how awesome the blu ray movies look!! Totally flawless. The upconversion is a nice touch to give your old standard dvds some new life. Also on the 80GB you can view pics from your digital camera with the available memory slots (SD, Memory stick, etc...).

You have to give the system 5 stars, but 0 stars to the resellers.

I was almost convinced that when Sony included a game, more storage space, and a lower price tag on the PS3 [Motorstorm bundle], that I was finally going to take the plunge into the next generation's "Console Wars".
For a good half-year+, I was pretty much content with playing on my brother's 360 Elite--Gears of War, Halo 3, and the recent GTAIV were more than enough to entertain me during downtime. It wasn't until the February announcement of the MGS4 bundle that I practically flipped my lid over getting my very own PS3 console.

Being a big fan of the Solid series since '98, it was certainly a huge deal for me to be one of the firsts to own this baby. Hell, if buying Metal Gear Solid 2 long before getting my own PS2 system doesn't show my love for the game, I don't know what will. To see Snake in a "Hero's Final Battle" will truly be epic -- something that MGS fanboys and regular gamers alike will not want to miss.

As for the PS3 console itself, I couldn't be more impressed with the features it matches with the 360 and beyond:
    · Computer media streaming (less buffering time)
    · Computer media COPYING (zomg)
    · Blu-Ray capability
    · Fresh, FAST OS interface (I'm used to the 360's Dashboard)
    · Background display fitting (a big up's from me)
    · FREE Online Gameplay via Wi-Fi
*Also included in a Playstation 3 package for the first time is the Dualshock 3 Controller

A few personal gripes that I should put up for "buyers in consideration" are:
    · Console heat production (warms up my TV furniture quick!)
    · Low storage space (I save a lot of media)
    and
    · Controller layout: I'd prefer a higher analog stick placement + lower sensitivity to the touch

Surely there are a lot of do-it-yourself projects and alternatives to fix these things, but I'm just putting it out there for anyone [360 elitists ;)] who find the transition to "SonyStyle" or a whole new generation in gaming systems for that matter, awkward.

All-in-all, I couldn't ask for a better ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM--a term lost ever since this whole Console War started. Anyone can say that so 'n so is a better gaming console, throwing around words like "better graphics", "faster loading time", and "CHEAPER"; but in the end, it's the kind of *kick people get out of individual games that actually matter.
A deal like this shouldn't be passed up.

METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS
It's me. Yes, all the editing and grammar marks have been put into place.
No, not a single soul suspected me at all.
Yes sir, most of the big issues have been put to rest.

. . . No sir, no one ever expected a review would end like this. Will do, goodbye--Mr. President.

  • love it.

I love games. I have a career in software development now because of my love of games. I learned how to build PCs just to play games. That being said. I can't believe I wasted $500 on this PS3 bundle of poo.
    1. The PS3 talks a big game when it comes to 1080p and Blu-ray but it doesn't even come with a HDMI cord.
    2. You can't just walk up to it hit a button and turn it off. Really annoying if you wake up after falling asleep to a Blu-ray and you just want to hit a button and walk to bed.
    3. All USB ports are in the front of the unit so you will always have your controller recharge wires hanging out the front instead of being able to hide them behind the unit. Nice look.
    4. The Game: MGS4 is all flash no bang. Lots of movies not much playing and when you are playing your hiding. Lots of hype for hide and seek.
    5. You will be asked constantly to press the Start button to continue, to load ,and to start playing. If I just completed a scene and hit start to continue, why would you ask me again once the install is complete if I want to continue...just run the dang on game STOP asking me! Of course I want to keep going. I didn't turn the game off did I.(This gets old quick)
    6. When the PS3 isn't on but is plugged in, a red light will glow. I know it is using minimal power and creating little extra heat but that could be power saved instead of wasted. I know it is still plugged in.
    7. The Dual Shock 3 controllers aren't made for adult hands, maybe a woman's but not a man's. After an hour or so my hands would hurt from gripping the controller to tight, trying to keep the controller from falling out of my hands.

I just wanted this system to be great but after having it in the house for 6 weeks I know I wasted my money. Don't waste yours.
I could keep going on and on but my minutia alarm is going off.
