  • Enjoy the advantage of GPS mapping on the golf course with the GolfLogix GPS-8 handheld unit, which calculates and displays distances to the front, center and back of every green along with hazards. The most precise, durable and user-friendly golf GPS on the market, this new version of the GolfLogix now recognizes what course you are playing automatically.

You get the distance to the front/center/back of green for each hole.
The GolfLogix GPS-8 includes Garmin's high sensitivity, 12-channel GPS receiver which ensures faster satellite acquisition time and superior accuracy. Nicely compact in your hand, it weighs 5.3 ounces with batteries and measures 1.2 inches thin. The case is 100 percent waterproof (submersible in water per IPX7 standard tests) and is shock-proof and impact-resistant for rugged outdoor use. The large LCD screen (1.25 by 2.25 inches) has a 64 x 128 pixel resolution and features excellent visibility in direct sunlight with adjustable screen contrasts and backlight screen setting for dark playing conditions.

Wherever you are on the course, GolfLogix displays the key distances to hazards and the green in big bold numbers all on a sleek black palm-sized device. The screen advances automatically to all of the targets on the golf course so there are no buttons to push or lasers to point during your round. The GolfLogix GPS-8 can store the following data on each hole: front/center/back of green; hazards; bunkers; water; lay-ups; and carries.

Easily download course data using the GolfLogix software, and store up to 20 courses in the GPS-8 at one time.

What are the advantages of GolfLogix GPS versus other yardage devices?
A handheld GPS device, such as GolfLogix GPS, offers more flexibility during a typical round of golf. You can bring the GPS to the ball and get more accurate distance data. Unlike other laser devices, there is no need to point and aim or have a direct line of sight to the hazard or hole.

How do I get golf course maps on my GolfLogix GPS?
Included with your initial purchase is access to download a single golf course map of your choice. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the Quick Start Guide located in the box to download the Course Manager Software from the GolfLogix Web site. Then follow the registration and activation screens on your computer to obtain your free golf course map. With a $29.95 annual membership, you can download an unlimited amount of golf courses worldwide (currently more than 15,000 in the database) and have access to GolfLogix product enhancements and upgrades.

Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations?
The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Golfers should check with their golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event. GPS devices have always been permitted in handicap scoring in recreational rounds.

    What's in the Box?
GolfLogix GPS, USB cable, belt/bag clip, 2 AA alkaline batteries, printed instructions

    • GolfLogic 2008 Review

      By A1E9TXLLI5SQEP on 2008-04-07
I had one of the early models made by SkyCaddie, and this device is far superior. It's easier to use, holds 20 downloaded courses (as opposed to 10), finds the course you are at (as opposed to scrolling through a list), is waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), cost far less to get a one year membership to downloadable courses, and turns on in seconds with distances (as opposed to minutes). The 2008 model measures the distance from your last shot so you can tell how far you are hitting each club.

It's very easy to use. Just turn it on. I had no trouble downloading the courses, and I am a Mac user with the Mac Leopard operating system. The Garmin algorithn for finding distances is quick and accurate.

I really like it and can't imaging playing golf without it!

    • Very poor Customer service

      By A18FP7BQRQT8E5 on 2008-05-06
One of the reasons I asked for this as a gift from my wife was my previous experience with Garmin. The other reason was the horrible reputation that Sky Golf has for customer service. Well, I outsmarted myself again. Golf Logix is so bad at customer service I feel like sending the unit back. As usual, the company spends all it's money on marketing and none on adequate personnel for customer service. Nobody answers phone or e-mail and mine will not load onto my computer despite following all the instructions on their 38 page "user guide". A waste of my time!!!! It is now Aug 9th and still no response concerning my promised refund! The president of this company even answered my e-mail and directed his staff to look into my situation after I forwarded an e-mail from one of the so called customer service personel saying the check was forthcoming in 5 business days. That was in June. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE is more like it!!!!!! Do not buy this companys products and save your time and money.

    • Highly recommend this product

      By AI8JAWCWVZPE1 on 2008-04-28
I've had my Garmin for a couple of weeks now and it's fabulous knowing accurate yardages (even when you need to play up an adjacent hole!)

I was undecided on the Garmin Golf Logix vs Sky Caddy choice, but went with the Garmin for their ease of use, customer support (I've heard it's very poor with Sky Caddy), and price.

I like that it's powered by 2 AA batteries (easy replacement of battery mid round (though I've played 4 rounds and the originals are still going strong)

It would be nice if you could track your last shot yardage and still toggle to the green/hazard yardage info to help your buddies (right now, it's one or the other option, not both), but for the price, I really feel I made the right choice.

    • Good GPS

      By A1IRNV5DBC15CT on 2008-05-05
Very please with my purchase. The Garmin GPS works as advertise, all I have to do is turn it on and it recognizes which course I am on. You can download 20 courses. It gives accurate yardages front, center and back of green and to doglegs and hazards. My favorite feature is measuring yardage of tee shots. I don't want to play without it.

    • Just shot a 77 using the golflogix,My freinds thought aliens invaded my body.

      By A3DXAXEZK2EFAC on 2008-04-17
      I got my golflogix 04-16-08.

I had a small learning curve to download (Windows xp)the program and entered 20 courses.

Pros: Every yardage marker on the screen was spot on.I have an index of 14.8 and I usually shoot a 88 to 85.

I used it for the first time today (04-17-08) and was hot off the first tee. Maybe it was because I could relax knowing the golf logix would tell me my ranges, but my score told the story. My freinds were in shock that I beat guys whom have been playing for years. I just started 3yrs ago.

Cons: It does not give your yardages to trees, only bunkers and water. I had to purchase the 29.95 package or the system would not let me advance.(Maybe I was doing something wrong, but over all great product. Amazon delivered in 4days.

      Thanks.

    • Eats batteries
      By A2F5R4JUJBTNL1 on 2008-05-09
So far the gps works fine, but it seems to be eating batteries much too quickly. I got 5 rounds out of the first set which was great. Since then, I can't get a full round out of a set of batteries. At first I assumed I was using cheap batteries so I switched to Energizers and still can't get a full round out of a set. I'm now waiting for the weather to warm up a bit and see if it's the cold dragging them down. If it doesn't do better, i'm calling the company for a new unit or a refund. I love how it works when it's working, but, it sucks to play 12-15 holes and then see a "low battery" indicator come on!!!

    • Second rate
      By A2ULNW2VMLTS7U on 2008-04-10
The unit works but does not compare to the current generation sky caddie (SG3,SG4 or SG5). Comparing it to first genration Sky caddie does not makes sense) A lot less information (limited to 6 items per hole) and not quite as accurate. It is also harder to use with fewer controls and options. It may be a bit cheaper but you get what you pay for. Buy the sky caddie instead.

    • Better than yardage markers, but not great
      By A2OWYA3TXRMZKK on 2008-07-03
My problem with the Golflogix is that it only gives you yardages to front, center, and back. I really don't care all that much about those yardages. Maybe a professional would, but I want the yardage to the hole. So one still has to consult a pin sheet, which aren't accurate either, and then do the math and they're just approximations. I also, in checking it against GPS systems mounted on carts, found that it was off by a few yards. When I double-checked with my Bushnell's it was shown to be imperfect. It's rugged, it's compact and they have just about every course in the country mapped. The software is not great; it's cumbersome to navigate through the 15,000 odd courses. Look, it's better than walking off sprinkler head yardages and getting out your calculator and it's true you don't have to take out a pair of distance binoculars and hit that pin, sometimes a little difficult at long yardages, but I still prefer my Bushnell's because it gives me an exact yardage to the pin, which is what I want. With Golflogix you're still at the mercy of pin sheets. I tried it for a week and went back to my binoculars. I thought I could use them in combination with each other, but that's just too many devices in one's bag. Still, I would recommend it, as long as you understand its limitations.

    • Golflogix: Exceptional Customer Service, Good Product
      By A30AV7E7NU4PP2 on 2008-05-09
I purchased the GPS-7 in March 2008 from Amazon. I registered the device and paid the $30 annual fee. A few days later, Golflogix announced the GPS-8. I was a little unhappy about that since I hadn't even had the chance to evaluate it. I emailed Golflogix and told them of my situation. They offered me a credit toward the GPS-8. The GPS-8 had a few additional features that I thought were worth the upgrade. So, I used the credit and upgraded. When I tried to upload my home course to the GPS-8, the software wouldn't recognize the new device. Each account is linked to a specific device. I asked if my old account could be transferred to the new device. Unfortunately, it couldn't. I had to cancel my subscription for the GPS-7 and pay another $30 for the GPS-8. The good news is that Golflogix credited me one of annual subscription charges. I have to say that Golflogix has EXCEPTIONAL customer service. Now, on to the review...

I have used the GPS-8 a few times now and can say that I really enjoy using it. It has been extremely helpful on the course with determining distances to hazards and other points on the golf course. I think this is more useful than a laser rangefinder since a laser rangefinder requires you to be able to see your target to measure it and sometimes requires you to have a very steady hand. The GPS-8 will tell you the distance to hazards from anywhere without a direct line of sight and without any effort. All of the features of the GPS-8 that are described on their website work and I have not had any issues except one: battery life. I get about 2-3 rounds/set of AA batteries. Obviously, longer battery life is better. The good thing is that the GPS-8 uses common AA batteries and not a proprietary battery pack. Just keep a spare set of AA batteries in your golf bag and you're good to go. With consistent use, the GPS-8 could easily help lower one's handicap and is an indispensible tool for course management.

    • Works great BUT
      By AB2IBNY9VXDVA on 2008-06-02
The GPS system is probably the fastest and most accurate I have used - 2 Skycaddies - BUT there were essentially no hazard distances on the first three courses I played. If you don't mind hitting in the water, it's probably the unit for you.

    • attention all golfers
      By A9T9ZR0X49J8L on 2008-04-25
If you enjoy golf and do not want to be looking for sprinkler heads to get yardage, this is the item for you. Much easier to use then the SkyCaddie yardage finder. More courses than SkyCaddie. Gives great yardage to front, center, and back of greens. Very helpful with distance to bunkers & hazards and distance to carry same. A very helpful tool for your golfgame.

      Golflogix does what it advertises.
I found the product to have an accuracy within 3 yards.
Signing up for the yearly unlimited course download made my golfing visits to SC, VA, AZ and my home state PA so much more enjoyable.
I was amazed to load all the courses I played and have an accurate yardage reading without relying on bushes, trees or sprinkler heads.

    • customer service
      By A2SP1Q6KDLA1NS on 2008-06-04
I enjoyed the gps for about 2 weeks. After taking out the batteries to charge them, the spring broke off, which makes this item useless. E-mailed the company, and they said someone would get intouch soon. After a few more days, e-mailed them again - no response. Called and could only leave a message. I figured since this is a garmin product there would be a speedy response, but I guess I was wrong. I am anxous to use this again since it worked so well. I'll see how soon I get this taken care of.

    • Golf Logix GPS
      By APSTKD9C5L6DP on 2008-06-12
Easy to operate, easy to read, and the software is easy to navigate when downloading courses or changing courses on the GPS. It provides the basic information without any picture images like on other GPS's. For the average golfer, this unit provides all the information one usually needs. A low handicapper may want a more advanced unit with pictures of the greens and fairways and more precise yardage to hazards. I am pleased with this unit and it has helped me with club selection. I would recommend it for most weekend duffers !

    • Not imressed
      By A34BDHM08PBC0K on 2008-07-18
I like the product a lot...when it works. My first unit worked for five or six rounds and then locked up. Customer Service was very nice, immediately sent me a replacement overnight. It worked for five or six rounds and then locked up exactly like the first unit (but on a different course). I'm sending it back for a refund.

      By A1JRWFRN0H95Y0 on 2008-05-04
This is a very good piece of equipment for any level of experience, one thing I suggest for first time use have a cheat sheet on use as I forgot how to get drive distance when I was on coarse.

    • GolfLogix works
      By A8XLDY1JBIHHO on 2008-05-27
As the title suggest, this product does exactly what it says it will do. Very reliable. A big plus is the ease of using the software to load and to modify the course selections. Very simple and straightforward. NIce product.

    • Garmin Golf Logix is a WONDERFUL thing!
      By A15LG9B9MCPMBA on 2008-07-04
I researched different golf GPS units before deciding on the Garmin. (I had actually gone to the store to purchase the 2.5 Sky Caddie, but after looking at it, I realized I couldn't read the information on the screen without wearing my reading glasses!)

I am very satisfied with the Garmin Golf Logix. It was easy to download the software; and easy to save and load golf courses. The display is very easy to read at 6 feet away. Its lightweight and waterproof.

I am normally a 10-12 handicap, 2 weeks ago I had my first sub-par round, and my first eagle the following weekend. What more can I say?!

    • All around bad product
      By A2DS1XT8FP30BM on 2008-07-24
All around bad product. The three major courses I play in Anchorage, AK are poorly mapped by GolfLogix. Many, if not all, of the major hazards were not mapped. The format for the hazards that were noted on the unit were not useful as the distance to carry the hazard was not given. The software would jump to an adjacent hole and I could not get the unit to return to the hole I was playing, then to advance to the next hole in play I would have to reset the unit.

The unit locked up repeatedly and would not turn off with the power button so it could be reset. I had to remove the batteries to reset the unit.

I returned the unit and bought the Skycaddi SG5. I am extremely pleased with the Skycaddi SG5 and would not recommend the Golflogic unit.

    • Great Product
      By A384K436HXIJV on 2008-05-12
I purchased a golfLogix GPS just before I went to Scottsdale AZ. I entered the courses that I was going to play. This product works GREAT. The yardages were right on the money. It was so nice not to have to go and look for markers. The speed of play was faster. Loading the GPS was easy. It also holds 20 courses in it's memory. Very durable device. Highly Recommended!!

    • Love It!!!
      By AUQPZHIY6XCQH on 2008-05-19
This GPS is excellent. My course was available and has a very detailed profile, showing distances to hazards, doglegs and lay-up distances. A lot of people I play golf with have Sky Caddies and they all like this GPS better. Works great, very accurate and very easy to use. I use rechargable batteries and they last about 4-5 rounds before changing. I don't know how I got along without one of these for so long. Highly recommend this product.

    • Golflogix GPS-Garmin 2008 model
      By AWZPFDC6M8GME on 2008-05-22
I am very happy with this unit. I have found it to be accurate when conparing it with other GPS units as well as course markings. Very handy when a hazard is not in view like a stream or bunkers. I think the course selection Golflogix offers is also very good, and reasonably priced. My new golf toy....and I like it.

    • Lousy Customer Service
      By A38K17QVC4FZPX on 2008-08-12
Good luck with contacting their customer service. Does anyone answer GolfLogix's telephone? I even faxed a message, still no response. When I attempt to download a course, an error message appears that their system is down (now going into week three) On the positive side, the device works with my current list of courses.GolfLogix GPS by Garmin (2008 Model)

    • Excellent GPS - Very happy with this Unit
      By A1ALM88NYARPOQ on 2008-08-19
When I retired some time ago I purchased a new set of clubs, bag, cart, Bushnell 1500 and the Sky Caddie. Recently purchase the latest Golflogic 2008 model and was up and running in 15 minutes with 20 courses of my choice.

      Advantages over the Sky Caddie:

Batteries. I carry four extra in my bag for the Golflogix and in the past I have forgotten to charge up the Sky Caddie and it went dead half way through my round.

The Sky Caddie is slow and you have to scroll through to select your course. The Golflogix selects the course and hole you are on when you turn it on. A very nice feature.

Feel better about this unit being water proof. With the Sky caddie I purchased a waterproof bag container for the rainy days. (Which we get in Vancouver).

One yearly fee and you download 20 courses anywhere. With the Sky caddie I had to pay additional fee's to download one course I go to in Wa.

Big Bright view. I am sure this is because of the new technology. I would think the latest Sky Caddie would be bright as well.

Con to the Golflogix over the Sky Caddie

You cannot map your own course with the Golflogix as you can with the Sky Caddie. If your course is not on the list to download you could map it yourself. As I purchased the Sky Caddie at the beginning I had to map a few of the courses myself. You cannot map your own course with the Golflogix.

I attach both to my Sun Mountain cart. My buddies like to know their distance to the pin and I always have the unit on distance of my shot when I advance after hitting my ball. This way I have the best of both worlds.

I use the Bushnell 1500 with the slope as well. Sometimes you just want to know the distance to trees,,,landing area, the flag,,,downhill or uphill shots (This makes a difference as it compensates for the addition or subtraction of the distance).

With all these toys you would think it would improve my golf game, ha ha...well my skill level needs improvement however I love to know how far I hit my shots,,,how far I need to hit them,,,,it makes my day a lot more relaxed and sometimes I hit the shot of the day.....

If you are reading this review I would like to put a plug in for Sun Mountain. I purchased the C130 bag, the V2 cart, and the cooler bag. The umbrella fits into the top of the cart and you can easily get under it without bending over. I am 6'1" and am very happy with the set up.

Upon retirement as mentioned I purchased a complete set of clubs. In hindsight I would go to a professional shop and have the clubs made for my body, swing, speed etc.

The Golflogix GPS 2008 Model is a winner!

      Hope this review helps

I'VE USED MY GOLF LOGIX 4 TIMES AT 3 DIFFERENT DIFFERENT COURSES AND IT HAS PERFORMED PERFECTLY. THE YARDAGES HAVE BEEN RIGHT ON TO SPRINKLER HEAD MARKS. THE DISTANCES TO AND OVER HAZARDS IS VERY USEFUL. THE GPS UNIT WAS EXTREMELY EASY TO SET UP AND DOWNLOADING COURSES WAS A BREEZE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT !!!!

      By A3JVWACOAHJ4KQ on 2008-06-24
The Golf Logix GPS is probably the easiest unit to use on the market right now. Just turn it on pick the course and play. No buttons to push just read the yardage. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it locked up on me the last time I used it and had to take the batteries out just to reset it. It has only happened once but we will see.

    • Not as advertised, poor customer service
      By A1DOZQ0UHETSZI on 2008-07-06
I am an avid golfer and thought I had found a good choice of gps, WRONG, if you live in a large metro area you will probably be happy with this gps, just don't try to reach golf logix customer service, I was on hold several times for well over 20 minutes just to have their reps give me conflicting info and finally just blaming me for the products' failure to work, very poor way to do business. BTW I love Amazon and have never had a problem with Amazon's customer service.
Bottom line is their are better gps systems out there and I would highly recommend buying one that allows you to map a course directly to the gps, the golf logix unit does not and their course mappings are incomplete, meaning they say the course is mapped but in reality they are not and you have no way to correct it in the unit.

AS always buyer beware, this product is not as advertised.
