Fisher-Price Elmo Livex$57.24
    (48 reviews)
Best Price: $65.99 $57.24
Is it live or is it Elmo Live? For the first time ever, in this truly life-like creation, Elmo really appears to be speaking as his mouth opens and closes just like a muppet. His mannerisms are right on target and his head bobbles back and forth as he speaks. Elmo waves his arms, sits and stands, and even crosses his legs while telling stories and jokes, singing songs and playing games. Children can activate the magic with a tickle or a squeeze of Elmo's foot, tummy, back or nose. Requires 6 "AA" batteries, included. Measures 12" tall. Elmo fans will delight in Elmo Live! This latest version of everyone's favorite Sesame Street character has Elmo talking, singing, telling jokes, and a lot more. With an interactive style, Elmo Live! encourages creative play, and with his wide variety of actions, he can entertain a kids through different stages of their development, from 18 months onward. | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Talking, moving Elmo doll provides interactive fun for kids of many ages
The Bad: Speaking voice is sometimes difficult to understand
In a Nutshell: Elmo Live! has more movements and actions than ever, making for even more realistic, interactive play for children of many ages. | At a Glance Ages: 18 months and up Requires: 6 AA batteries, Phillips screwdriver | | |
Elmo's always appreciates a hug. View Larger. |
Interactive gestures bring Elmo to life. View larger. | Moving, Talking, Dancing Elmo! Elmo Live! features the furry, bright-red exterior and the big eyes characteristic of the popular Sesame Street character. He features complex actions that give him a life-like quality: His mouth and head move while he talks, sings, and tells stories; he gestures with his arms, and he moves his legs. He even crosses his legs when he sits on the included stool. We found him very easy to play with -- just press his buttons to get him going. Press Elmo's foot and he will sit down on his stool to tell you a story. He even gestures to act out parts of his stories! Squeeze his nose, and he'll make a variety of silly sounds; he'll even ask you if you "have his nose" and ask you to give it back to him. Squeeze his hand, and he'll dance. Elmo even blows kisses, asks for hugs, and says he loves you. He tells jokes, acts ticklish, and more. When he's laid on his back, or if your child doesn't play with him for a while, Elmo will go into a battery-save mode. He'll yawn, say he's tired, and shut down. Just press one of his buttons to get him going again. Interactive Fun for Kids of Many Ages We particularly enjoyed that, unlike some other "talking" toys, Elmo Live! doesn't just spout programmed phrases. Instead, he asks for interaction, and he responds as if your child is responding to him. For example, when he will ask for a hug and then say "thank you" as if he's received one, or he'll say he's ticklish and then will "respond" as if your child is tickling him. This makes an almost magical experience for your child, as if her toy is really coming to life. The wide variety of things that Elmo Live! can do makes him a great toy to grow with your child. Younger children can engage in cause-and-effect play by simply pressing Elmo's buttons to see what he does. Our two-year-old tester was especially delighted with the silly sounds Elmo makes when his nose is squeezed. Understandably, her attention meandered during the somewhat lengthy stories. However, an older child will have the attention span and comprehension skills to appreciate them, as well as the silly jokes that Elmo tells. Tips on Playing with Elmo! Live Elmo makes lots of fun movements and gestures -- the only slight drawback is that his movements generate a somewhat loud, mechanical sound that sometimes interferes with being able to understand what Elmo is saying. He also has to be on a hard, flat surface -- otherwise he has a tendency to fall over. This in itself has a fun effect, however. When he falls over, Elmo asks you to help him back up again, and when he's put back upright, he'll say "thank you." Also, since his nose has to be squeezed with a bit of force to activate him, our two-year-old tester sometimes needed assistance with it. Elmo Live! comes with 6 AA batteries. A Phillips screwdriver is required to replace them. What's in the Box Elmo Live! doll, with 6 AA batteries included

Thoughtfully & intelligently designed. Still much room for improvement. By AK4HKI46S49NA on 2008-10-18
After one week - - here is my review
Pros:
1. Well designed toy, but leaves more to be desired.
2. He sings, tells jokes, dances, has animated & fluid, aka lifelike, mannerisms.
3. Recognizes when he has fallen over and politely asks for help. The sneeze sequence is hilarious.
4. He does a lot of things that really personify the toy, i.e. thanks you if you help him up, goes bonkers if you squeeze his nose, laughs, yawns, asks you to dance with him, etc. To a 2-4 year-old, Elmo does indeed comes alive.
Cons:
1. The servo noise can be distracting, most of the time.
2. The red terry cloth / skin is way too thin and fragile.
3. It would be nice if Elmo is cushier and has another programing sequence when lying down so that children can go take him to bed with them.
4. It would be nice if Elmo is expandable, in the sense that you can add more programs via Bluetooth / USB / cartridge expansion. Otherwise, Elmo will become boring real fast.
Elmo Live is an innovative and engaging toy for children between 2-4 years of age. He is worth the MSRP, compared to other toys, but NOT MORE. If it wasn't for the economy, Elmo Live would likely be all over the news and the hottest toy of the holiday season.
AMAZING and GROUNDBREAKING fun for ALL!!! By A3AI4ZI5RBKVQX on 2008-10-15
I was lucky to grab the last Elmo today locally and my three kids, a 2 year old, 5 year old, and a 7 year old, have been playing with Elmo ever since. They absolutely love it. The neighbors and other family members have been over to see Elmo go. He does sooooo many things, tells stories does dances, plays games, and other quirky fun things. It is so life-like it keeps the kids and adults amazed. My sister has struck out at many stores today and has been told it will be very hard to find this christmas. So if you find one, grab it, as these are definitely THE hit toy this year.
He's Cute, Funny, and Animated! By A23GFTVIETX7DS on 2008-11-20
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RDTHY14RSOMYW Elmo Live will capture your child's imagination with his trademark infectious happiness. He waves his arms, dances, sits on his stool, tells jokes and stories, shows your child how much he loves him/her, laughs, sneezes -- everything you would expect an animated Elmo to do. Other than some mechanical grinding as he moves, Elmo is all cute. This little guy is a blast!

Funny to watch but that's it. By A3CQRSKSY61YTO on 2008-10-22
We bought this for over $60 for our three year olds birthday. Don't do it if you want something that your child can play with. It does not liked to be played with, it wants to be watched.
Fun for Muppet Fans and Their Kids! By A30PGV2NGA0TH9 on 2008-10-18
Pros:
As someone who has grown up with the Muppets, this is quite ground breaking in terms of realism. Elmo's mouth movements are like that of the actual puppet on Sesame Street. When on the floor he actually is at eye level with the toddler. He is great for getting your child active as he encourages them to get up and dance. If not played with he automatically shuts off. The best part about this Elmo is he is not creepy like some of the Elmo toys that have come out in the past.
Cons:
He is not soft by any means, the only thing between your child and the frame of the toy is a thin layer of red fur. There aren't many stories, and he is very repetitive. You have to have him on a good solid surface or he falls over, if he is mid-story during the fall he does not continue from where he left off before he fell.
Overall: A great toy for Muppet fans who have little Muppet fans of their own.
- Fun for young ones
     By A1LAULBD2E1LC7 on 2008-11-11
My niece is younger than the suggested age, but she still finds him interesting. She'll sit and watch him while he talks and laughs at some of his antics.
Cons
1. He can be a little repetitive. After 1 week my sister learned his entire repertoire, and is now slowly being driven insane.
2. He takes 6 batteries...yes, he comes with them, but replacing that many at once will be a pain.
3. Every movement is accompanied by loud gear grinding. He sounds like he's falling apart and he's brand new.
4. There is no cushion between the mechanical body and furry covering; he looks soft, but isn't.
5. By the time a kid is old enough to understand his jokes and stories, they'll be too old for him.
Is this an essential purchase? No. But it is a great gift suggestion for an aunt/uncle/grandma/grandpa who wants to get something "special" and doesn't know what....it also helps if they have money to waste. :)
- Worth Every Penny
     By AADEC99IMR7V9 on 2008-10-16
I just bought this for my 2 year old son for Christmas. There were several in the store and I let him play with him a little while we were there. As soon as Elmo started talking his face lit up. We're saving the one we bought for Christmas but my husband and I have played with him a little. The look on my baby's face alone made this toy worth every penny.
- Huge price difference
     By A7USV44ERFB35 on 2008-10-18
Great toy. However, my sister purchased an Elmo Live for her children at Target for $60.00. Buyers beware...Amazon has overpriced this product! I will be sure to shop around before I buy anything from Amazon.

- Fun to watch, delicate to touch
     By A26DO0BHKNTWUI on 2008-11-02
Was lucky to find 1 left on the day they came out and bought it for my niece's 3yr birthday. It was a hit from the moment it came out of the box. Being 3 she wanted to carry it around by its neck and it was down hill from there. Ever time it spoke or giggled it had a 'clicking noise'. I was disappointed it didn't hold up on day 1. Hopefully the replacement will last longer when it is exchanged as 'defective'.
- Wish it was expandable
     By A3H6FN5TKMVDN on 2008-10-17
Our Elmo arrived yesterday. My 2 year old loves this toy. He mostly loves the Elmo rap song and he loves the way if you squeeze Elmo's nose he makes a noise and a comment. The stories are a little long to keep a two year olds attention. I like how polite Elmo is and says please and thank you. I just wish they would of made this toy with expandable cartridges with additional songs and stories
- Very repetitive
     By A1P0JSFW184ZXJ on 2008-11-26
I'll start out by saying Elmo is absolutely adorable and he is very entertaining.. for the first 15 minutes. It is amazing how he moves and you do feel like he's talking and interacting with you, until he does the same things over and over 20 times.
When my 3-year-old first saw him in the store, I couldn't get him away from it. They had one out of the box so you could see everything it does. He was mesmerized and was laughing hysterically every time he grabbed Elmo's nose. That said, every time we go to this same store with that same Elmo out on display, he walks right past him. Just like that ridiculously expensive interactive dog, Biscuit, and that new giant dinosaur by Fisher Price, both well over $100 a pop. They're amazing for 15 minutes, and then your child rarely, if ever, plays with it again.
This could have been a real gem if they had added the ability to say your child's name and add content via USB or cartridges. And why not? Fisher Price is no stranger to these things and they've had "Knows Your Name" products on the market for many years now from dolls to play phones. Why not Elmo? And why no expandable content? No matter how adorable, there's only so many times you can listen to "Fee fi fo fum" or the rap song. It's less repetitive than TMX, but that's not saying a whole lot.
I would almost, ALMOST, toss out this 3-star review and write a 5-star review if Fisher Price had learned their lesson from TMX and made this Elmo softer. My son can't cuddle with this Elmo. He can't hug him. Heck, he can barely carry him because he's so heavy and awkward and he'd probably get broken if he carried him anyway. If Elmo did all the things he does, but was more cuddly and inviting, it may be a different story. But right now, Elmo is just another $60 in the garbage.
- Well Worth the Money! An Absolute Must Have for Christmas!
     By AWPI3SNOIT568 on 2008-10-17
I was lucky enough to find one of these in the store, and I actually purchased it for my neice, but as an adult, I'm absoluetly stunned at how adorable this doll is. I find myself playing it just to hear and see Elmo move! It's well worth the money! This is the best toy yet that I've seen on the market for the price - you have other toys that do NOTHING, for the same price! I would rather be entertained for my money than to have something stare at me, while I'm starring at it! Great Toy - I can see why it's the HOTTEST TOY Out, and will be SOLD OUT!
- Coolest Toy!
     By AKQEUVYIUXPRT on 2008-10-18
We snagged one of these from Toys R Us. It is amazing how far Toys have come. From the wooden Fisher Price Little People to Elmo Live. We had bought it for a Christmas Present, but I think us parents are enjoying it too much to put away for Christmas! This is a very cool toy.
- Definitely going to be hot
     By A1TJ9TMAAA5GBK on 2008-10-18
Bought this for my 3-year old nephew a few days ago and he just rolls over on the ground laughing hysterically when he plays with it. Definitely worth it (for kids and parents) and going to be a hit this holiday season.
- Elmo loves me and I love Elmo
     By A2U7ALL9T6QQIT on 2008-10-30
This toy is amazing. Everything from his bad jokes, to the great story about him and the giant is wonderful. I'm 27 and I completely fell in love with this toy and everything that it does. If your kids love Elmo, or even if you do, this one is a toy to pick-up.
- Not for young kids.
     By A2M82K1CPR3MNW on 2008-11-04
I bought one for my 2 yr old and when i opened it up and was seeing what it did, it constantly was falling over even with its seat in place. It ended up breaking within a couple of hours b/c when it fell over a gear or something inside slipped and now it makes a horrible clicking sound when it moves. Overall its cute, but its so delicate that i would only recommend it for older children(5+)who know how to be easy on toys.
- Elmo Live
     By A293TMQ0IWZFGU on 2008-11-16
Hard to rate, it will be a Christmas gift. I tried it the other day and it only said one thing which means I may have to send it back and hopefully find another one before Christmas - am going to have my daughter look at it this week to see if I am doing something wrong as a grandparent there may be a switch I can't find. Unfortunately, I do think it is not working correctly. The shipping box was in good shape when it arrived - am not sure it will fit in packing envelope that is with it for sending it back.
- Elmo IS Alive And Hilarious!
     By AWPODHOB4GFWL on 2008-11-27
Sesame Street's favorite red, furry pre-schooler is now more alive than ever. I have never seen such an animated and sophisticated toy made for kids 18 months and older - or any kid who loves Sesame Street. Elmo is about 18 inches tall and full of more animation and vocals than any mechanical doll/toy I have seen. Set Elmo on a flat surface with his little blue chair and your kids will be amused for hours with a seemingly endless array of wild movements and funny comments. Elmo has four pressure points which activate dozens of narratives, including comments on how much Elmo loves you, asks for a kiss or scratch his back. He actually responds to each of these remarks when your child touches him. If Elmo falls over, he asks for your help in setting him up! Elmo has a "freeze dance" which is hilarious as well as his version of, "Simon Says" called, "Elmo Says". Elmo's phrases change constantly. Elmo also has two silly songs, many silly sneezes, endless hug requests, two engaging stories and endless random jokes. Your child will never tire of Elmo and his gestures, dances, mouth actions, arm swinging and more are amazing to watch. Of course, any child will walk away from a toy for a minute or more, so Elmo will yawn and go to sleep to preserve battery life. Once he is picked up or pressed on his foot, belly, back or nose, he springs back to life. Your child will love you for getting them Elmo and Elmo will love them.
- holy cow!
     By A2A8W0IJGARMTP on 2008-10-15
$100 for a two to three year old - yeah, maybe for Donald Trump's kid! Or one of those CEO's with the golden parachutes from wall street! Not for "main street, america" or even sesame street, america.
- Funnier than TMX
     By A1ODAX6HZA675C on 2008-10-23
When my kids and I walked in a local store, we found this cute Elmo on the shelf. So we tried him out for the first time, my 1 yr old started to smile when Elmo did the kiss sound, then she wanted it played again and again. Of course, we ended up getting one home.
Now Elmo is doing really good job to get all of us laughing, not only kids but "us." Sure, for age 18 mos to 99 years old! Fisher Price has actually made another TMX Elmo, but in a better and funnier way. Way to go, Fisher Price!
- Great Fun
     By AGN5T21NQTGX5 on 2008-10-31
This is a very entertaining toy. The child this was given too can not stop playing with it. The movements/sounds/stories are so amazing to watch.
- Fun and Amazing
     By A2SKBQEVF3X5MD on 2008-11-04
Aside from the $60+ price tag, this toy is nothing but amazing. It makes you feel like you are interacting with it. It has so many ways to move that you would almost think that you are watching a live puppet show. It is also very entertaining. My kids enjoys Elmo's kisses, story telling, songs and dances.
This such is a fun toy that I would highly recommend this toy to young children.
- Entertaining but...
     By A2FWQKJ6RW93R2 on 2008-11-05
Other adults who come over to our house and watch my kids play with this keep saying "that's not really a toy." The kids push parts of Elmo and he does entertaining things while they watch...it's not like they invent their own words for Elmo to say or engage in any kind of fantasy play with him. But there's definite "wow" value to how long he can talk and the many things he can say. The price tag is steep though. Worth it if your kid LOVES Elmo but not if it eats up your entire gift budget!
- Elmo Live
     By AOQSRD7N74B6A on 2008-11-06
My husband and I went ga-ga over this toy last weekend in Target. We walked away once but found ourselves back in front of him again, listening, watching in amazment! AND he only say one thing until you take him home, and watch out! He's so entertaining and I'm 34. We got it for our niece for Xmas. I immediately took him out of the box when we got home and played with him for an hour. Buy this one, you WON"T BE SORRY!
- Elmo is not so cute.
     By ABF2SZR6KUZDI on 2008-11-16
i bought this toy for my six month old granddaughter. It said a few words, but we found out that it was supposed to do other things. It didn't. So, now it is almost four weeks later, and FisherPrice still has the toy. I hope she gets a new toy and not the broken one.
- Excellent toy for 18 month old child
     By AQXEO0CPC6GXH on 2008-11-17
Product is as advertised and quite entertaining for my 18 months old grandson. He had seen it a birthday party and fell it love with it so I decided to buy one for him.
- My kid is scared of it
     By A1YBN21VBZ6ZJ6 on 2008-11-21
My son is 21 months old, and he loves Elmo. When he sees Elmo on TV, he always wants to hug the TV. He has other stuffed Elmos that he always carries around and hugs. However, this Elmo Live completely scares him. I think it is the lifelike movement. I know every child is different, but this thing completely freaks mine out.
The problem with this toy is that it is way too LOUD. The voice is too loud and the gears grinding are much too loud. There is no volume control.
Additionally, the phrases and jokes and movements are so repetitive. I've been trying to get it to do different things just to see if there is anything about this toy that my son enjoys, and I've failed.
My son likes this toy best when Elmo is silent. But I don't need to spend $60 on an Elmo that isn't even all that soft.
- 32 year old man impressed with elmo
     By ABVO2OS0FLI0I on 2008-11-24
I am a 32 year old man. I bought elmo for my baby, it was on my wife's list of things to do. I took it out of the box and thought it was one of the coolest toys I've ever seen. Do not compromise and buy tickle me elmo this year. elmo live is the one to get.
- Absolutely adorable!!!
     By A152M9E2E4WMV5 on 2008-10-22
I just received one that I purchased for my 2 year old niece for Christmas. It is awesome!! It's by far the best Elmo ever and probably the best toy I've ever seen - no kidding!! I haven't seen much advertising yet for him, but when it starts, I would think that they will probably be hard to find. Definitely a "must buy"!!
- Cute toy but not for younger children!
     By A3PV6IKQUEF9N2 on 2008-10-22
Got Elmo Live for my 20 month old son as the toy is for 18 month+....but my son is so scared of him. This toy is great may be for a 2.5 to 3yr old but not for younger kids.
