(16 reviews)

Best Price: $9.25

Five years, five #1 hits, six Grammy nominations, and one CMA Horizon Award later, Platinum-selling country superstar Dierks Bentley brings you a collection of his fan's favorites on Greatest Hits/Every Mile A Memory 2003-2008. The compilation features ten of Dierks' most recognizable hits, two brand new songs, and five live songs selected exclusively by his fans! Dierks has given his loyal fans creative control of this project, allowing them to handpick the content of the album, cover art, and the album title. Participating fans will then have their names listed in the liner notes of the project as executive producers. Dierk says, 'I can't think of a better way to get my fans involved than to have them actually act as executive producers of this record'.

  • Record Company Cashing In!

    By ALQ90GSQXWB68 on 2008-05-08
It's pitiful that Dierks' record company felt the need to compile a greatest hits after only 3 studio albums!!!!!! Plus, the two new songs chosen are not that great! They should have waited a few more years after Dierks had been able to release a couple more stellar cds! Sad!

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT GREATEST HITS PACKAGE

    By A2U15B5HYZCDG6 on 2008-05-10
What makes this such a special Greatest Hits Collection is that Dierks left the album's title and cover up to the fans to vote on. He also listed those fans as co-producers and included each of their names in the album's liner notes. Musically, you will find all of Dierks biggest hits, including live concert footage, as well as two new songs. This collection should leave Bentley fans thirsty for album #4.

  • Dierks is great!

    By A2XZLC7FU3HUMP on 2008-05-10
Well as far as some of ya think it's too early for a greatest hits package..remember when George Strait would release one after every 4 albums? then he'd leave off the 4th album...as example (strait country, strait from the heart, and right or wrong) then the hits from Doest fort worth ever cross your mind was left off and then put on volume 2. Dierks is one of the most accomplished newer country stars one of my all time faves of today. this is a good starter for those who don't have the 3 albums which ya should all own.. every cd he's made has been a masterpiece.

  • Great CD

    By A3CEDKFW3SZUDG on 2008-05-09
Dierks Bentley's greatest hit cd is wonderful. It give you a chance to listen to his biggest hits, live music, and two new songs. The live songs can only give an idea of what he is like in concert. The new songs are good, not great. Sweet and Wild is the one of the two new tracks and features Sarah Buxton. With an artist as talented as dierks i think it was time for a greatest hits album and i don't think this is anywhere near the end of his career because look at toby keith his first greatest hits cd came out only after four studio releases and a christmas cd. The greatest hits cd was a way for dierks to give back to the fans and it is a great way for others to be introduced to his music or just have the favorites all in one place.

  • Solid Music (it's Dierks), Questionable Collection

    By A38HIK4HFBJDS3 on 2008-05-12
Obviously, the music on here is solid; this is Dierks material. And while it is conventionally a bit premature to be releasing a retrospective disc, he really HAS already had enough quality material, by most major country music artists' standards, to justify a greatest hits release. The content, not so much the concept, is what's potentially objectionable here.

While all of his hits (which ARE included) are shoe-ins, the logic behind the remainder of the selections is less clear. It might have made sense to feature a few of the overlooked quality songs (if you own either of the first two albums, you probably know what I mean). "I Wish It Would Break" is the only such example, here. Instead, this collection re-emphasizes some of the megahits with an additional, and generally mediocre, live version (yeah - 2 versions). I would say Dierks' catalogue is already too substantial for the record company to need to focus so strongly on just the "hits", but it ultimately just comes down to preference.

Also, there are some quirky remixings and overdubs (yeah - overdubs) on some of the material (in both the studio and live versions of "Free & Easy", for instance). Again, I can't say whether it adds or detracts - it'll come down to preference. Some may not even notice the differences.

There are two new songs: "Sweet & Wild", and "With the Band". The former is great - roughly on par with "Good Things Happen" (but with a galloping backbeat). The latter is passable (comparable to "That Don't Make it Easy Loving Me") and definitely not among his best.

In summary: this collection is generally as advertized - "Greatest Hits" - and not necessarily "Best of". There's little depth beyond the 5-8 songs you already heard on "Kissin-102-point-whatever". The collection will appeal to those who are looking for the radio hits - which are certainly among his best. To those at all suspicious that they might really dig Dierks, I'd recommend the previous 3 albums instead (and then maybe the '07 Bonnaroo Festival download on iTunes, if you get hooked). To the hardcores who must have everything Dierks (and have the greenbacks to back it up) - don't hesitate. The alternate mixing and new material will make it worthwhile.

  • Dierks Bentley's Latest
    By AL8WQLB63LOGK on 2008-07-15
I loved the mix of slow romantic songs with an equal blend of faster
"toe tapping" songs. This is the type of cd's I like to listen too.

  • Greatest Hits for Dierk
    By A13RCTAJEYFW80 on 2008-07-26
I like the new CD. It puts many of Dierk's hits together on one disc. I like the additional tunes he added to the mix, too.

  • When you got you got it.
    By A2I8K1C4CQ1Z5Y on 2008-05-19
It's not the number of albums, it's the number of quality songs. Dierks never makes a bad one. Modern Day Drifter could have been a greatest hit's if he had released every song. The songs that he records are all hits. Most people usually have about 10 songs in a GH, he more than suits the qualifications.

  • For once we actually have a "Greatest Hits" album!
    By A1DJVZXR1MFPN6 on 2008-06-20
I'm usually pretty disappointed with "Greatest Hits" albums because they rarely ever have all my favorite songs on them. That's not the case with Every Mile a Memory. Dierks let his fans choose the content and what we ended up with is a *true* greatest hits album, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. Way to go Dierks!

  • Great Album
    By A1II1ZTXU1WXTX on 2008-06-23
I think this is a great album. It does seem early for a greatest hits album, but who cares? The "Sweet and Wild" track, written by Radney Foster, is awesome. Overall, this is a great cd and any Dierks Bentley fan will enjoy it.

  • Why Now Dierks?
    By A2I9Q8GMUX4JDE on 2008-06-26
I love Dierks Bentley - this cd not too much. His songs on the "Greatest Hits" are good songs, but most of my favorite tracks from Dierk's career are missing from this cd. Unless you just want a sample of his music; I would suggest skipping this collection and getting his three earlier cds instead.

Honestly, my problem with this cd was that it is too early in Dierk's career for a "greatest hits" cd and that's why I think the song choice on this cd was poor. The songs on this disc may be good songs, but this collection does not reflect Dierks best work (in my opinion). If he had waited two more albums before doing a "greatest hits" collection; Dierks would have had more songs to choose from - which would have improved this cd alot.

Like I said earlier, buy this cd if you are new to Dierks' work or you want a sample of a few of his songs (only 10 past songs on this cd, out of 3 previous cds). If you already have all of his earlier cds, don't bother with this one as the new songs and live versions of all songs are not worth it (in my opinion).

  • What! - "She Won't Choose Me" not on the Greatest Hits CD
    By A2VX7FLDKIQFV9 on 2008-07-01
Maybe this was a good time to release a live cd instead of a greatest radio hit cd with some added live tracks and the typical 2 new songs that aint even been heard yet, but is on a greatest hits cd. Is there such a thing as an acoustic demo version of the greats? I found out you have to have talent to play guitar so maybe that's why there are none.

    SHE WON'T CHOOSE ME
is this not a greatest hit? It's the best he's got..nothing else he has ever done even compares to it.
It's the only song that really stands out and puts Bentley out there.
I would have NEVER heard any Dierks if it hadn't been for that one song.
Not to mention it is only available on an over-priced special edition cd.
Had this song been added I would have bought the disc. Otherwise IMHO Dierks is way behind in talent and one short straw from being exiled.

A great cd is a great cd and this aint one of them.
This one comes up short... that's short for lame
Next time at least add the one big hit !!
Are we sure fans actually picked these songs??
As a non fan I have heard his best song -
Why haven't the true fans who picked these songs out??

Greatest Hits - more like greatest flips and bloopers

  • Not Ready For a "GREATEST HITS"
    By A1XP114Z0MVEHA on 2008-09-05
Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of his. But how can anyone have a Greatest Hits Cd after only releasing THREE albums? I heard "Sweet & Wild" and wanted to get it and saw that it was on this Cd but I will definitely only be downoading that one song.!! They are full of it on this one. Shoulda waited a couple of years. What a waste. Why not just put out a LIVE Cd with a couple of bonus tracks...???

  • New and old fans need this CD!
    By A1G5ZYYB2A1UXC on 2008-09-09
If you need a reason to buy this CD, I have 3 words for you:
Sweet And Wild!!!! This song is phenomenal!! Another one worth noting is With The Band!!! These songs are only available on this CD and new and old fans definitely do not want to miss hearing these tracks!!! Not to mention this is a fantastic compilation of all of his hits!!! Go get this - today! ;)

  • Free & Easy

My husband has loved this song since he first heard it. The album is great.
