Now this is much better! By A1UCPXUBSESD65 on 2008-05-30
The Kindle is held much more securely in place than the original cover. I like the soft leather and the classy deep-red color, it is not a bright Christmas-red as portrayed in the pictures provided here by Amazon, but a deeper shade. A benefit of buying red is that it is easy to spot it in your luggage or car because everything else is usually very dark.
The best feature is the left side pockets. There are 5 of them - one large enough for a CD or pad of paper, 2 medium and 2 small pockets to accommodate flash drive, SD cards, or business cards. I like that a lot and use it even for a credit card or medical card occasionally... drivers license, even money, if you're going for a walk in the park and don't want to carry anything else. The on/off switches in the back are not exposed, but the right corner has an elasticized band that allows you to pull the Kindle away from the case to use the switches. I've read at KindleKorner that some of you find that the right corner is too tight - just leave it off, I do. It stays securely in place with just the other 3 corners in place, and you can easily access the back switches. The pocket side of the case provides adequate padding for the screen. I leave a little cloth wiper in one of the side pockets which adds a little extra cushioning as well.
The left side also folds back, as some have wondered, and fits comfortably in the hand. When the left side is folded back, the left-side cover creates a ledge, so to speak, for the right thumb, so you are not accidentally hitting the "next page" button. That in itself made the purchase worthwhile. The pencil holder sits to the left side of the Kindle and can not scratch the screen or get in the way. It does not have a stand, but that doesn't bother me. If you need a stand get something else.
In my opinion, it seems overpriced, therefore the 4 stars instead of 5. A fair price for this would be under $30. My laptop case cost less than this case did and it is a pretty nice one. If the $55 price-tag is within your budget margin then I think you will be happy with this choice. Thumbs up!
Update Oct. 2008 - just noticed the price is coming down since I got mine. That helps, eh?
Case Closed!!! By A17QFO3NIJDXSS on 2008-05-07
This product corrects the design flaws of the original Amazon Kindle case (no velcro workarounds needed with this one!) and adds an element of luxury with its beautiful leather (mine is red). It also offers a larger ledge/finger rest which I find more comfortable than the original. There is an elastic and leather band to hold even the top right corner in place -- very easy access to the on/off & wireless switches. I personally don't care for the feel of suede, so the case that comes with the Kindle would never have worked for me. The Kindle is absolutely secure and protected by this case -- no slippage at all during use and kept safe from falling out of the case while in transit by the band incorporated into the cover. Highly recommended!
Well designed, beautiful quality By A3LOOGDJ7S01LA on 2008-07-31
I just got my red leather M-edge cover yesterday and am loving it! The color is rich and gorgeous, the Kindle fits perfectly and securely into the cover, while still allowing access to the back buttons. The stitching is beautifully done.
When folded backwards, the cover provides a "ledge" on the left side which is substantial enough (more so than the original Kindle cover) to allow easy grasping and prevents any accidental hitting of the "next" button on the Kindle. I even attach my Mighty Bright booklight to this ledge, so it doesn't "hurt" the beautiful leather on the front.
It has five pockets for storing things: two for SD cards, plus two for business or credit cards, and one larger pocket (CD size). There is also a pen-holder.
The leather also has a beautiful smell. Overall it's the most beautiful book cover I've ever had, and it makes the Kindle look even more sleek and stylin' than before, if that is possible.
I'm really enjoying the rich red color, and must say it looks way more gorgeous in real life than the online pictures show.
Love my M-Edge kindle cover By A2KBV82FQPW9A2 on 2008-04-28
I love my kindle, but the cover that is included with the kindle is not sturdy enough for me. I am an international flight attendant and am in and out of airports and security checkpoints, packing and unpacking bags and in and out of hotels constantly. I need a cover that is hefty enough to protect my kindle but light enough to travel well. I purchased the leather executive kindle cover by M-Edge in red and couldn't be more pleased. The kindle is held in at all four corners, there is a closing flap to keep it secure when closed then tucks away for reading and there is storage for memory or business cards. The red leather is beautiful and stylish. I'm ready to go.
Very Nice but Priced Too High By A3VEKLG99NQLT4 on 2008-06-29
The cover is nice indeed, but is Way overpriced. The company can price it High because of the few choices out there, but that doesn't make it right!
- What a disappointment!
     By A1R3HKQIZ74HOP on 2008-09-09
I read all the rave reviews of this cover and tried to match them up with the picture of the red cover. In the picture the cover looks like it was manufactured in a 4th world country, but I thought it was just a mistake. The black cover looks just beautiful! It has a very neat look. You can tell the leather work is very good and the leather has a nice pebble texture that I find attractive. This red "thing" has a shiny, mottled surface and the work looks cheap. Very disappointing and certainly no bargain. I LOVE the original cover compared to this. Save your money - there must be a better cover out there somewhere.
- After 5 months of use . . . . . . . .
     By A2AA1G6BYJETY1 on 2008-09-03
I purchased this cover in April and had I written this review at that time I would have given the product 5 stars on its cosmetic value alone. Instead I decided to wait and review it on all aspects of its use and I am still giving it 5 stars.
PROS:
As I said the first thing we notice is the leather is beautiful, soft, well put together and easy to spot as the red is vibrant.
The pockets and pen/pencil holders are so handy. I keep a notepad in the large pocket which I think also helps with padding. It also has 2 small pockets making room for my SD cards.
I believe it is fairly well padded to protect the Kindle.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and it is comfortable and easy to hold and operate (easy in and out of the case) - and that is saying a great deal.
The cover is designed to hold the Kindle so that it is snug and secure without interfering with any functionality.
I think it is fairly priced.
Before I give you the CONS:
I want to say that I am very careful with my Kindle and the case, as to me, it is priceless so wear and tear is minimal. However, I do use it daily, I carry it in my purse everywhere I go so please know that it is used a great deal.
CONS:
I am finding the thread is coming loose around the area the tab goes in. In fact about an inch was come out. That is the only place it is happening so it's probably a rare occurrence. Otherwise the stitching is beautiful and tight.
I am finding the Spine of the cover becoming a little wobbly. In fairness to the manufacturer I don't know if that could ever be eliminated as constant use would break anything down.
That's it. The only 2 problems I have found after 5 months of constant use. I am even happier with the product than I was on the day I received it as it has proven to be more than just a pretty face. I have already gotten my moneys worth and now it is a gift. I would recommend one to my best friends or family and I would give it as a gift and never worry it wouldn't be enjoyed.
- Pros and Cons
     By A3COBFLNYK52TE on 2008-10-08
Pros-Love the deep red (not cherry red as shown) color which makes it easy to find inside my purse; like the pockets and pen holder; like that the M-edge holds the Kindle securely (so securely I don't use the top right elastic because it made it impossible to turn the Kindle on)
Cons-Not a plush feeling case for the money. The leather is okay but there doesn't seem to be any padding (or very little); there isn't any padding inside the front cover to add protection to the screen; the stitching around the tab insert came loose immediately; the inside of the spine after one month shows puckers and the tab itself seems to be wearing quickly.
I'm glad my Kindle sits in this securely unlike the cover that came with it but wish for the money they'd made this one better or sold it for under $25 or $30.
- Too pricey for what you get, I'm afraid....
     By A336GW4AO0PWST on 2008-09-23
I bought it as a surprise for my wife (we both have Kindles, and love them!), but -- unfortunately, I was the one surprised.
The stitching is somewhat sloppy, and it has an odd smell, which was the first thing that my wife noticed. Instead of a rich aroma of leather, it emits an odor of cheap vinyl, and is actually rather offensive.
This, combined with the fact that I believe that it is overpriced by a factor of about two, I am very disappointed. I'm having a custom cover made by a leathersmith, and I've given this one to my dogs as a chew toy.
- Red Kindle cover
     By A6I3FPFUYJUL7 on 2008-05-19
I bought myself this book cover for Mother's Day and I just love it. The way it sticks out on the right side is great for holding the kindle and less pages turned in error. I also love the way it looks, with the red I can find it anywhere. I took the gray foam rubber sheet that came with the packing and trimmed it to fit in the front pocket for more protection for my Kindle screen. The only thing I dont care for is that tha tab gets in the way. I tuck it under when I read but I am sure that after awhile it won't be good for it. By the time it wears out, I'm sure that someone will come out with a better solution. The way it holds the kindle in place is wonderful and you don't have to worry about it falling out, I would definitely buy the cover again!
- Great cover
     By A2ZF5UF2NWI3DS on 2008-07-07
I bought this leather cover to replace the one which is shipped with the Kindle. This cover has been excellent addition. Would definitly recommend buying it.
- Product 3 - Amazon 0
     By A2KU61RL5N6IFP on 2008-08-21
The product is eveything they said it would be; a little too pricey though. Reliable so far. Amazon should be ashamed of the cover they provided with the Kindle. Especially for the price! Really, how hard can it be to make a cover that actually "holds the Kindle"? Obviously not too hard as I just bought one here. (Maybe they want you to break them so they can sell you another.)
- Better than stock cover/beautiful leather
     By A909V722FQZ93 on 2008-08-22
This is a beautiful cover for your kindle. I bought it because I couldn't keep my Kindle in the binder it came with, and without something to put it in the Kindle is hard to handle. Without any cover on the Kindle there is no place to put my hands without constantly changing pages or going somewhere I hadn't planned.
Kindle fits perfectly, all the buttons are accessible and it is a very professional looking binder. This leather binder makes it easy to get a grip on the Kindle without constantly pushing buttons unexpectedly.
Kindle can be charged without removing this cover, and the on/off and Whispernet buttons on back are protected, but easily reached.
I recommend this cover, in whatever color, mine is red, for your Kindle.
- Gorgous and functional
     By A2ZGXQ566SR4FM on 2008-06-13
the Red leather is gorgeous and it functions well. I has a wonderful grey suede interior.. pockets for cards and SD cards and even a pen holder.. more room to hold the kindle and it WORKS.. no danger of slippage in this one!!! Its wonderful
- Style and Quality all in one
     By A2YGPX707FJ3OO on 2008-06-22
I bought the red cover and I just love it. I liked it so well that I bought a second one as a gift for my sister-in-law who introduced me to the Kindle.
This product is gorgeous, very high quality, and well and thoughtfully designed. It is a pleasure to read my Kindle with the feel of the beautiful leather and soft suede interior in my hands. The smell of the leather brings a whole other sense into play and adds to my pleasure. I love the pockets inside the front cover. I store an extra SD memory card, a small microfiber cleaning cloth, and a paper clip (for occasional resets of the Kindle) in them. The cover holds the Kindle very securely. I can even read lying down in bed with the Kindle in the cover above me with no chance of it falling out (unlike the cover that came with the Kindle).
Worth every penny! Good job, M-edge.
- Beautiful, well-made cover
     By A1X2J0JEWBZHBV on 2008-06-30
I've been using the cover that came with the Kindle and the M-Edge
cover is superior to the original in all ways. It is finely-
crafted. It's fits perfectly and IT's BEAUTIFUL!
- Excellent leather cover!
     By A3J436GPHJTJ2K on 2008-07-02
My red leather cover arrived super fast. It is everything I was expecting (from all the great reviews) and I think it is worth the price. After spending almost $400 on my Kindle I have no problem getting it a good quality cover.
- great cover for kindle
     By A2U33CKNUNSB29 on 2008-07-29
I love this cover. I tried all the various suggestions to make the cover that shipped with the Kindle work successfully. I gave up. This cover is wonderful. It protects the Kindle and holds it securely. It is comfortable to hold and easy to carry. The tab of leather that holds the cover closed can be tucked under the right hand 'next page' control to prevent unintended page advances. I don't use the internal pockets, but have been surprised at how often it has been helpful to have a small pen handy. In addition to being practical, I purchased the red leather and it looks spiffy.
- Nice look, poor quality control.
     By A3KD0N5H6PI3SD on 2008-08-13
Everything about this case was exceptionally well done, except, the slot where the 'closing tab' is inserted. The fabric backing for the leather has not been attached or removed from this area, and the tab constantly bumps into the fabric and gets stuck when trying to secure the book closed.
- High Quality, great functionality
     By A19K6S5155DYJ on 2008-08-05
The cover included with the Kindle was absolute crap to me. Without affixing a strip of velcro to the cover and the back of the Kindle, there was no way to dependably keep the Kindle in it. So I ordered this case based on high reviews and now I wanted to throw in my own 2 cents.
This case is very high quality leather. Very soft and supple! I feel like I am holding a museum bound book. The interior is perhaps even softer than the stock case, but also has little storage nooks built into it. Nice to keep a pen and a few sheets of paper and a memory card in. I put my daily to do in there, because I KNOW I will be reading my Kindle! The retention straps work well. I use three of them. I find the upper right one interferes with the overlarge next page button. But the three are very effective at holding the Kindle in. Even with purposeful shaking to see if it would come out! The open corner also allows my sausage-like fingers to get behind the Kindle to turn wireless on an off easily.
Yep, it's expensive! But so was your Kindle! And that other case was NOT protecting it!
- the aesthetics alone rate a "5"
     By ATK8Z7WEUXIE1 on 2008-10-03
I got this based on reviews and the fact that I like to read my Kindle sideways lying down. The Kindle kept falling out of the original case and turning the Kindle on and off always caused it to fall too. I'm a klutz and we only have tile or wood floors and I worry about breaking the Kindle. Okay, so I shelled out the big bucks and bought the case. The red one looks wonderful, feels wonderful, it smells wonderful, and the Kindle hasn't fallen out once since inserting it in this case. This case prevents the page turner from being pushed accidentally as much as the old one did, especially when Kindle is on its' side. The upper right hand corner elastic works well, but unless I need to go online, I leave the internet connection off and never turn off the Kindle. It goes to the screensaver and the lasts for days, in fact, I haven't had it go dead yet.
- Much Better Than The Original
     By A34O02PQVFZIAE on 2008-10-18
I purchased this book cover after reading the many reviews about it. Like another person, I am also one who likes to read laying down, and I also encountered the problem of my Kindle falling out of the cover that came with it. And let me tell you, this cover is MUCH better. First of all, like a previous reviewer said, the color is not the bright Christmas red like in the picture....it is a very nice shade of dark red. The one big plus for me is that my Kindle doesn't fall out of this cover when I am reading laying down, since there are supports on all 4 corners. (The support on the upper right hand corner is elastic, so it is easy to get to the on-off and Whispernet switches) It is also much thicker than the cover that came with the Kindle, so it provides much better protection. Also, when folding the cover back during reading, there is much more room on the sides of the Kindles, so I find I am not accidentally pressing the next or previous page buttons. There is also enough room on the left hand side to attach a reading light without damaging the leather. Another plus are the pockets inside the cover and the pen holder. There are 2 pockets for your SD cards, as well as pockets for other things, like business cards. I keep a small notepad in the larger one. All in all, this cover is 100% better than the one that comes with the Kindle, and is very much worth the investment. You can't go wrong with this cover. Oh, one other thing that I love about this cover....the smell of the leather. lol
- Beautiful...Kindle worthy
     By A8H0BKOVOCS83 on 2008-08-29
I got my M-Edge cover just two days ago and I love it. For the price of the Kindle you should get a choice of covers. This red is gorgeous and the leather is smooth and has a wonderful rich feel. It also is much more secure in the holder..still able to fold the the cover back and the pockets (though I haven't filled them yet) are nice.
My only negative comment is that it seems so secure in the elstic band it is hard to get your hand in to slide the off buttons...but I would rather have it secure and I am sure this will loosen with use.
Definately worth it and such a beautiful addtion to my new constant comapnion.
- Great after-market cover for the Kindle
     By A2BIJMB2BITQUM on 2008-10-11
We waited for this to come out in leather - it was worth the wait! Great extra pockets for business cards or notes - a pen holder - and it's leather! It just doesn't get much better than that. Three corners hold the kindle in place well - the fourth has elastic so you can get to the switches easily without taking it out of the cover. Overall a superb product!
- I added an elastic band
     By A34JE64NE82NJC on 2008-10-19
I like this cover better than the original one except I missed the elastic band that holds the cover back. I added an elastic band to the M-edge. It's a 14 inch elastic band sewed into a loop. It slips under the Kindle and around the back cover. It holds the cover back securely like the elastic band on the original one and also holds the cover closed so I don't have to mess with that tab closure. Now I have the perfect cover. I find it's much easier to hold the Kindle while reading if the cover isn't flopping around.
