'4 Minutes' Remixes for the Club By A3PMEJAYKF3VUC on 2008-04-30
'4 Minutes' poses the same problem that many songs from "Confessions on a Dance Floor" did; how do you remix a song that sounds rather mixed already? The mixes included in this release are fun though my only complaint is that in one setting they sound rather similar. There wasn't an attempt to vary the sound of the song and make it into a rock song, or say, a pure pop song. All of these mixes are pretty much club-orientated, which is cool, but this maxi single does lack in variety.
That being said, there are some good mixes that make this release worth buying. The "Junkie XL" and "Junkie XL Dirty Dub" are both the best cuts from the album. For once, the dub isn't boring and a throw-away track but turned into something worth listening to. The "Bob Sinclair Space Funk Mix" keeps with the trumpets/synths/zipper-sounds to give the song a more airy sound and removes the trumpets and drums from the original mix. The "Rebirth Mix" is different in that it has a chill-out sound to it, smoothing out the vocals and scaling back on the instruments to play more with the vocals. The "Peter Saves Paris" mix is good in that it features Madonna more so than Justin Timberlake, unlike in the original mix of the song. It's one I actually heard in a club and it is very danceable, fun, pure dance club with a big sound and heavy synths and beats. The Tracy Young mixes are okay but don't stand out that much when compared to the other mixes.
In all, fun, nice, very dance and club orientated. My only hang-up is that the remixes sort of blend and clash with one another and I wish there had been more variety to perhaps see what '4 Minutes' could have sounded like with a different consideration or beat, such as making it into a rock song or pure pop, something done with other Madonna songs on previous Maxi singles. But, with that, definitely worth buying for your collection and to add to your music library. If you enjoyed the "Hung Up" maxi single of 2005, you'll probably like this one as it sounds like a continuation of the song with similar lyrics and the clicking clock sounds running throughout. Check it out.
4 Minutes to Pass Time By A1AYEI2SNFPYES on 2008-05-01
Madonna's fascination with time...tick tock, waiting and hesitating (words that frequently appear in her lyrics). New single featureing Justin Timberlake is a slice of urgent urban pop with Timberland's signature big horns and beatbox and Timberlake's Michael-Jacksonish falsetto singing "We've got only 4 Minutes to save the World." The album version is addictive, all that tick-tocking.
On this maxi, Madonna uses several remixers including old-timer Tracy Young who already sounds uninspired and tiresome. Junkie XL does a decent job here with the remix which starts off with loud dance beats that eventually simmers to a slower groove about 2 minutes 40 seconds into the mix where Madonna starts singing verses over and over. The other worthy remix is the Rebirth Mix which when played in a club, is a sizzling anthem. Peter Saves Paris Mix is just a long regular remix which is nowhere as good as his promotional New York Mix. Bob Sinclair's remix is well, despite its title, hardly futuristic. It sounds more retro and dated. Even the Verizon exclusive remix of 4 Minutes by Timbaland himself sounds better than most of these mixes.
The problem with Madonna remixes now is that they are rather forgettable as Warner opts for safe remixers rather than cutting edge ones. (B-)
the best remix is not here, look for the edited version from other sources By A1ZMQBS6RG0ZM0 on 2008-05-20
i can say the BEST REMIX is "Timbaland's Mobile Underground Remix" which only can be downloaded from Verizon website to their customer's cellphone and this really pissed me off. But it is available from some website like Youtube and you need to try hard to find it out yourself. Ironically, how can they forget the real contributor to this song, and i was so surprised when i found out there is no remix by Timbaland in this Maxi.
While the rest of the remixes which i think are doing much more better is also not included in this maxi single, such as "Tracy Young House Edit" and "Rebirth Remix Edit" which can be found from her Limited edition Candy Box set release, while "Peter saves New York Edit" & "Junkie XL Remix edit" can be downloaded from iTunes Candy Box Deluxe Version. "Peter saves Paris Edit" & "Bob Sinclar Space Funk Edit" are just doing okay....which also can be found from iTunes.
Just forget about the long version from this maxi, the edited version is much much more better than these, trust me. All the edited version also can be found in Amazon MP3 download.
My personal favorite from this maxi are "Tracy Young House Mix" and "Rebirth Remix". The worst for me is the dub version, and i prefer the "saves New york" and "saves London" version than the "saves Paris" version in this maxi.
Good Remixes Salvage a Mediocre Track By A3DI391K4GAI7Q on 2008-05-02
I'm not a huge fan of the album version of this song. Thankfully, we have some talented remixers that make this song quite a bit more appealing by stripping out a lot of Timbaland's original production. The mixes are all quite different from each other too, ranging from moody and deep to classic club wreckers. Recommended.
Madonna needs some new Spicer remixes By A2Q3QYXTSVJFY2 on 2008-05-03
Madonna's remixes lately have been very dull to say the lest, the remixes that where made commerically available for her last few cd-singles was very boring and annoying, typical "floor killers"
"hollywood" and "get together" are more recent ones that come to mind.....but there is hope in this group of floor movers....the best are "peter saves paris mix"
and "the bobsinclar space funk mix",....with a retro techno touch
but all in all great if your a die hard fan but not good for the casual listener..... i'll also recommend getting your hands on "Ashlee simpsons"
"Promo mixes" for "outta of my head"...their awesome party starters, quite wicked
dare i say it.....their actually better than madonna's "4 minutes remixes"
- Excellent remixes

B.Sinclair and Tracy Young remixes are fantastic and Junkie XL plus Peter Saves add new dimensions to the remix field.

- 4 Minutes Too Long
     By AWKRTLXGSNRES on 2008-05-13
Geez, I'd heard SO much about this so I decided to order the single. That was, perhaps, a mistake. The first two mixes--DEFINITELY the only from Dirty XL--are fine; after that, it's all downhill. I will have to agree with one other reviewer, Tracy Young's mix is just tired and Peter Rauhoffer's isn't much better. I expected so much more from them and was very disappointed in their inputs; neither delivered. I had hoped for a remix by Offer Nissam but that wasn't to be.
I'll wait for the release of the CD/album--whatever you want to call it. I just hope that if there are other songs remixed from it, they turn out better than the majority of these. Not worth your money except for the remix by Dirty XL.
- superb!

- Trash Music is Back (horrible)
     By AUHD013KRNJRO on 2008-06-12
One of the works single of the summer. If you like a TRASH sound this if for you. If you like a more well done dance song look for something else. Try Cyndi INTO THE NIGHT LIFE and SAME OL' F... STORY or Donna Summer STAMP YOUR FEET. Those sigles are much better done. Believe me! Don't waist your money in this one.

Not her best remixes to date, but certainly not her worst. The best is yet to come...

I thought this was going to be the original version. Too much dance mix for me.

     By A2O177V283R2EF on 2008-05-04
I only rate this 5 stars due to the original mix itself. These mixes are a major disappointment. I don't think this song can really be remixed. It's perfect just the way it is. Timbaland did his job, and did it well.

- Good song, but not the best.
     By A1QFQ9SQZVGUK4 on 2008-06-16
I can understand why this was the lead-off single from Hard Candy, but there are much better tracks from that album. Namely 'Heartbeat' 'She's Not Me' 'Beat Goes On' and 'Devil Wouldn't Recognize You.'
