The wait is finally over! The Faroe Islands' Vikings deliver a masterpiece of true Viking Metal with their latest album "Land". Impressively combining powerful choruses and energetic guitar work with the traditional Folk melodies of their ancestors, TYR has composed a collection of hymns bound to shake the foundations of Midgard, topping them off with a unique musical rendition emphasized by a clear and powerful sound. "Land" is undoubtedly an album that will assure TYR's entry into Valhalla.
The Ltd. Edition version of Land comes housed in deluxe digipak format with a bonus DVD featuring TYR s Wacken Open Air set from 2006.

Promotional Copy By A1YU22I3ONOFUL on 2008-06-02
My rating is based on the Amazon mp3 download version.
I downloaded this album the day it was available on Amazon. Upon listening, I found that the 5th song (and each song afterwards) was from a promotional recording. All of those songs have a voiceover that says something like, 'you are now listening to Tyr's album, Land'. The music fades out during these sections. The voiceover is done to discourage illegal downloading. Now it appears that it is being used by Amazon to discourage any downloading. I am now going to be extremely wary of purchasing downloads from Amazon. This needs to be fixed! When (not if) Amazon refunds my money, I will purchase the CD from another source.
Aside from that, the album itself is amazing. I have quickly grown to like the band quite a bit and recently saw them perform in Atlanta. I have listened to Land only once, thus far, but Tyr seems to have progressed in their songwriting, yet maintaining their distinctive sound. The song Land, in particular, is a standout. I highly recommend the album, but only the non-promotional copy version.
Great album but.... By A2IY1EH1J4Y8IZ on 2008-06-03
same problem with the download. The problem is not just with Amazon.com. I checked another site and the tracks on there were the promotional tracks also. I contacted Napalm Records directly and informed them of the problem. The only question is how do you know if or when the correct files have been uploaded?
As far as the actual music this is another masterpiece from TYR! If you liked their previous albums you will definitely enjoy this one. The five stars are for the music but the promo tracks are a huge mistake by the record label!
Not bad at all By AK74GOC0P5SFN on 2008-07-09
Tyr fourth studio album shows crearly that the band has a sound and a niche from which they will not stray out. The combination of metal and Nordic folk makes them a very unusual band and a true viking metal one. Although my preferred one is "Eric The Red" and this one lack at least one catchy song (like 'Valhalla' in "Ragnarok") is commendable the effort put in the music and the interesting fact that only the two long songs 'Ocean' and 'Land' are in English while the rest is all in Faroese, which to me is part of the appeal of the band.
A Gift From Valhalla!!! By A1VWHUQ395CG8Z on 2008-06-11
So, I have been waiting a while for this album to be released, and that time has finally come! And let me tell you, it was worth the wait! This album is great, the music flows perfectly throughout the album, and although it is an amazing album, it has one flaw for me... There are only 4 tracks on the entire album that have English vocals in them; Oceans, Brennivin, Land, and Hail to the Hammer. However Oceans is a 10 minute epic and Land is a 16 minute Epic, so, the total track time of the English songs takes up about the half the album anyways, which is what really won me over! Plus it comes with a live DVD with a great set list. So if you are a fan of Týr's previous records, I highly recommend this one. Also, the album art and design of the album are just awesome, my favorite Týr product yet. Congrats to another great album! All Hail Valhalla!!!
Very Underrated Band By A3ECP33IVZH9WO on 2008-06-16
If you are a fan of Ragnarok and Eric the Red, this album is a further progression from those albums. The songs are a little more polished, but still the band you love. If you are not familiar with Tyr, this is a great starting point, as these are among the most accessible songs the band has released yet. I love this band!
