  • as good as the full-size steamer

    By on 2004-03-21
I compared this travel model with the full-size J-2000 steamer. They were both very good at removing wrinkles from business-type clothing. We steamed a full week's wardrobe, and the clothing done with the travel steamer looked just as good as the others. The only drawback to the travel model is related to its small size - it needs to be refilled every 3-6 garments, and the smaller steam head means that it takes longer to steam an item. However, I actually found that the small steam head worked better on small areas like collars and cuffs, especially since it has squared corners. The corners mean that you do have to be a bit careful with delicate knits, though. Worth the price if you really need to look your best when you travel.

  • Unmatched on the current market

    By A1E02Y4KUIAQ9Q on 2005-01-07
Firstly, smallappliances.com provides a much better price on this product than amazon.
Secondly, I write this review based on a 2-week holiday experience in which I utilized the steamer on a diurnal basis.
Pros: sub- 5 minute warm up period; uses hard or soft water; compact and durable; does an adequate job of steaming dress slacks, trenchcoats, jeans, ties and dress slacks; 800 watts of output power (most powerful portable steamer out there); never clogs; lengthy power cord; straight-forward and easy instructions; steams vertically as well as horizontally (really!); and, balanced.
Cons: goes through dihydra-monoxide quickly (which is a testimony of its steaming power and the limited water chamber); no on/off switch; only 4 steaming vents (bores); steaming head collects dirt and lint promptly & easily; have to purchase plug converters separately (utterly stupid since this unit is designed for the traveler--it's always about $, $, $, $); and, aesthetically unattractive.

Is it quicker and more efficient than a clothes iron? Are the results better than a clothes iron? In my humble opinion... sometimes yes, sometimes no. For trenchcoats, ties, suit coats, jackets and jeans--this steamer definitely has the edge. For dress slacks and dress shirts--the jury's still out. As it stands right now, I would have to say, "No."

All in all, it is a wise investment with ample potential.

    Hope this helps.

  • HOW DID WE EVER GET ALONG WITHOUT IT?

    By A3M174IC0VXOS2 on 2005-09-27

This light weight travel steamer has saved me many dollars. For the price of what I would have paid a hotel valet service to press my suitcase wrinkled clothes I could probably have room service breakfasts! The Esteam made quick work of the folds in a gabardine skirt, and spiffed up the collars of many a blouse and jacket.

While Esteam has become a must-have for our travel, it has also become a standby at home. We do have the J-2000 which is great, but because of the easy maneuverability of the hand held steamer I find that we use it more often.

Try as I might, a steam iron was leaving shiny spots on a taffeta skirt. The steamer smooths wrinkles with no trace whatsoever. There is a silk table skirt that we love but it was impossible to get it home from the cleaners unwrinkled - Esteam to the rescue. The uses we've found for it are countless. It's simply one of those household items we now wonder how we ever did without.

We like the wide mouth on the water tank, which makes it easy to fill and the fact that we can use plain or distilled water. The handle is ergonomically friendly, and the nine foot cord allows us to move about as much as needed.

Thanks to Jiffy Esteamer wrinkles are no longer a pressing issue for us!

  • Works well on light fabrics

    By A3DP183SEEOXLI on 2004-11-28
This steamer works great on light fabrics such as silk. However when I tried steaming my cotton dress shirts, it took forever just to get a couple of wrinkles out. For its small size and price I'm fairly satisfied with this steamer, but don't expect it to replace your iron.

  • Heads up if your application is to "block knitting"

    By A2V9ZTFOZO7X56 on 2005-12-13
Just used the steamer for the first time and was impressed with how well it got up to temperature. It produces a good amount of steam for dewrinkling clothes, but keep in mind this is for short term use i.e. you will have to refill several times if you need to do several articles of clothing.
The reason I purchased this was to block sweater pannels after knitting. I will need to send this gem back because the instruction clearly specify that you must keep the steamer verticle i.e. you can't use this with your clothing article on a table. Your item must be hanging.

  • not pretty but sturdy, well designed, and does the job
    By A9KAY47NCPQS on 2006-11-10
It is a brutalistic, ugly appliance but it does the job well. Water well is visible, it's ergonomic, and makes just enough steam to finish three wool suits. Well, maybe more like two and a half. I was skeptical of the high price, but after much research, I'm convinced this is the best travel one available. Makes other travel steamers look worthless (and they are). Jiffy can charge such a high price because there is no worthy competition - nothing comes close.

  • Best Steamer I have ever used!!!!
    By A1VTDFGIM47RRL on 2007-08-25
I used to have a full size steamer that took up a lot of space and worked well. I needed to replace it and bought this based on the reviews. It is amazing!!! It works better than my old full size steamer and it fits under my sink,so no storage problems. It heats up really fast and steams several items before needing a refill!!! I love it!!!

  • Traveling with this steamer is like taking the full sized Jiffy with you!
    By A27WS8P2YSQVGS on 2007-11-22
I purchased a large Jiffy Steamer at least 12 years ago. None of my friends had one, and they were still ironing their clothes each morning before work. On the other hand, I plugged in my large steamer, and within two minutes, it was puffing steam so hard, wrinkles disappeared before your eyes in seconds. I never, ever thought any other consumer product could compare. Then, while shopping on Jiffy's site for Jiffy mineral cleaner (important to keep clean), I came across the Esteam personal travel clothes steamer. The ad stated it worked as well as the home version. I ordered one, and have never regretted it. It works so well, I might as well have the full-sized steamer in my suitcase.LOVE IT AND WOULD PURCHASE ONE FOR ALL MY FRIENDS!

  • Costume Heaven
    By A2LFCPBH4TURGK on 2007-02-25
I make lots of costumes, particularly period dresses, for theater productions, and when I finally got desperate for a steamer I went for this one based on these reviews on Amazon. Just wanted to say they did not lead me astray! It's perfect for both at home and on the road when I'm delivering the goods, and it's not given me a hiccup yet. Highly recommended!

  • Poor Choice for a Steamer
    By ASY9QVJK5ASLK on 2007-02-18
The way this Steamer was advertised, I really thought it gave out alot of steam, and lasted a decent amount of time. I tried it a few times and was very disappointed. I returned the item.

  • eSteamer works fine except for sputtering
    By A3EQO4SNABY6X4 on 2007-10-17
After heating the water, if the tank is too full or tipped slightly, water spits out on the fabric you are trying to steam, sometimes quite a bit. Other than that, it works well, and eliminates most wrinkles with just a small tug on the fabric as you steam.

  • Works Great
    By A324JXT048VTQN on 2007-09-16
Purchased to take with us on a cruise.
Worked just fine. You know how quickly the Linen "Bahama" type shirts develop wrinkles. This is the answer. Heated up quickly and did the job.

  • Good value for the money
    By AZNNN7P0NAK0G on 2007-11-02
The steamer does a great job of removing wrinkles from clothing, even when the garment is severely wrinkled. The only drawback is that the tank capacity is so limited that you constantly need to refill the steamer and keep it full for it to work effectively.

  • good, not great
    By A1D1IDI5S9TN9D on 2007-10-22
Sure, it's not as good as its bigger brothers, but this little guy will (mostly) do the job. For the price and size, it's a solid buy.

  • Not the best
    By A3GRCKKGTEWQIH on 2008-06-11
I purchased this steamer after reading the reviews and it was recommended by a fashion community to which I belong. I am not impressed. IMO, quite a bit of work needs to go into steaming with this steamer; furthermore, I haven't been able adequately steam any of my linen items. The water also evaporates VERY quickly so you have to refill it often. I wish I had spent the money for a full steamer with a hanging pole, more power and less maintenance.

  • Actually pretty good...
    By ANCUTEYKMUHFN on 2008-01-31
I just got this thing in the mail, and I've used it like 4 times. It works pretty well. I probably need to use it more to be able to make some of the claims of the other reviewers, but I can definitely say that this thing is way better than an iron in that it's way faster and doesn't damage your clothes. I mainly use it on new dress shirts, as everything else goes to the cleaners. Those annoying creases are nearly impossible to erase with a regular iron without spending a lot of time per shirt, but the esteam knocks them out in minutes all while never taking the shirt off of the hanger. I would've given it five stars, but you have to fill it up every few shirts or so. Other than that, no complaints.

  • Great steamer-Convenient & Effective
    By AR47CIP2M66F1 on 2008-02-20
My experience has been perfect with the steamer. To me it's simple, I didn't want to have to add salt, I wanted a lot of steam, and no hot water spitting. I plugged it in I got an abundance of steam, fast and I didn't have to add salt. No spitting, just steam.

I kept it upright, I imagine if you turn it upside down you may spill water!

I'm happy, you would be happy too.

  • powerful travel steamer
    By A3IQ4D74HRNSXT on 2008-02-15
It is surely the most powerful travel steamer on the market. (And of course it costs twice as much as other travel steamers.) Sure, some may say steamers of this kind are never as good as regular irons. But I have never been good with irons myself, and after trying Jiffy I have no patience going back to my old travel steamer, which is actually pretty nice too. So I would say Jiffy is great and would recommend it.

  • Jiffy Clothes Steamer - travel size
    By AA5KCHDFGXXQV on 2008-01-07
I bought the Jiffy clothes steamer (travel size) because I'm tired of ironing! I wanted something small that I could use both at home and while traveling that would remove wrinkles without ironing. The Jiffy steamer definitely does the trick. It's quick and easy to use. I would absolutely recommend it.

  • Just Awful
    By A2KBKXCVNWIT4A on 2008-06-07
What a shoddy product -- it works better to humidify a very small compact vehicle than it does to steam my shirt. It does just about nothing. You're better off putting your shirts next to a hot shower. In fact, hanging your garments from the shower curtain will keep them drier than using the ESTEAM. I thought this product was such a piece of junk that I felt obligated to share my experience here.

  • "Travel" means US travel.
    By AS6YU834WC0YC on 2008-07-30
I was very excited to receive this, but upon opening it, I realized the voltage is only fit for American 120V. I'm sure it's a fine item, but I travel often to Europe and so need a steamer that can be used abroad. Sadly I will have to return it.

  • Magically removes all wrinkles!
    By A2MRT5PADRY1SA on 2008-10-13
This item is so wonderful. It's saved me $100's of dollars on dry cleaning. It's so easy to use and works much better than an iron! I've used it on all fabrics including sweaters and wool, and everything looks professionally pressed. I was able to do 7 sets of slacks w/ one tank, so don't let the size fool you. I use to take my wrinkled clothes to the cleaners, but not anymore!

  • Great product!
    By A3TJWIGP8IG90Y on 2008-11-30
We purchased the Jiffy steamer to take with us on a cruise. It worked as advertised removing wrinkles from items we had packed tightly for a 7 day cruise including wedding attire. My wife looked fabulous at our beach wedding. Her white wedding dress and my white linen shirt and pants would not have looked quite as good without the Jiffy steamer. We highly recommend it. • Waste of money
    By AJUJ0YVUAA2Z5 on 2008-06-20
I purchased this product to use on my uniform shirts for work. It did not sufficiently remove the wrinkles and I had to iron them anyway.

  • highly impressed
    By AWYOQHS93RIA1 on 2008-08-05
I am truly impressed with the product. It's the first steamer that I've ever bought, and it was absolutely worth it. It heats up in NO TIME, and it gets HOT! The only negative that I've seen is that there's no way to get the crisp look. It doesn't do collars well at all, nor anything else you want looking crisp. I tried doing one collared shirt and used up the whole water reserve and just ended up soaking the shirt...I should have just given it up and ironed it. Also, you can't really do the edges of clothes without something to hold it taught (besides your hands because your fingers will burn). Overall, great product.
