  • Industry Pro Gives it two thumbs up

I have been selling wireless since 1996 and have used multiple headsets, hands free solutions, etc. This has the best voice quality of any in-car set up I have used. I was using a Jawbone, which I still have, and is excellent. I am just tired of having something hanging on my ear X hours a day. I am a gadget freak for sure but I am tired of the tool on my ear.

I made some calls at 80mph in my wife's minivan on the turnpike to friends to get their feedback before using it for business and they did no know I was on a speakerphone...that's good enough for me. The voicedialing, as with any voicedialing feature, sucks. They all suck. The voice answer did not work either - say 'ok' to answer...yeah my kids were laughing at me saying 'ok' 6 times and then the call went to voicemail because it never answered. But I expected that...so just reach up and tap the answer button...no worries. My concern was voice quality, and it passed the test.

The auto phonebook transfer to a blackberry will not work from the device but will work if you do it from your BBerry's blutooth menu and push it to the device. It took about 10 minutes for my 1500+ contacts to transfer. I only did that so I could hear the name of the inbound caller, which is cool. The reality is we all have our phones right next to us when the call comes in and we can look at the phone's screen if need be.

  • Supertooth 3

    By A3SP6DMVUE6BM7 on 2008-06-04
Being a fan of the supertooth 2, I got the supertooth 3 for the text to speech feature which is supposed to announce the caller's name based on your address book. Problem is that I could never get it to say the caller's name, instead it will only say the number. I'm using it with a blackberry 8830 and have also tried it with a Mot Krzr with the same results. Contacted the company over the phone who's support is great but they couldn't get it to say the caller's name either and suggested the I send it back. Not good for a new product.

I'm sending it back and we'll see what happens with the next one.

    ----------------------------------------------
    Update 6-13-08:
We still can't get the ST3 to announce the callers name either. We are on our third one after returning two of them. In our company we have BB8830's and Pearls. Tried on both with no luck, only phone numbers are announced. Also tried on two Mot KRZR's also with no luck either. Called vendor three times now and they had me do the batt thing also. They finally said that our vendor may have had a "bad batch". This one is really hard to believe. I called our vendor who is not happy that this "may be the case". I'm now waiting for blueant to send me an envelope to send the unit back and to then send me one directly from the factory.

I'm not holding my breath on this. Guess it's like software... never by version 1.0 of anything. For a few weeks, there was nothing out there (internet search) that pointed to this problem but now it's everywhere.

Aside from that, the unit performs as good as the Supertooth Light verison.

    ------------------
7-3-08: Still haven't received the product return package from the manufacturer. We are still getting the Supertooth 3 device for clients though because the other "advertised" features do work and work well and so far is the most "hands free".

  • The Best Solution

    By A11J49WQ6IVC3U on 2008-06-27
After much research here on Amazon, I decided to order the BlueAnt Supertooth3 to solve the dilemma of California's new cellphone law. I did not want any such product, but some of the available solutions are definitely less wanted than others. The Plantronics 510 Voyager would be good for a person who doesn't mind wearing gear and doesn't use sunglasses or other glasses, but I'm not a headset/earpiece kinda gal. The BlueAnt Light, with the protruding mic, sounded like a major irritation just because of the temperamental mic that would get stuck. For me, the lack of Caller ID made it unacceptable. I don't answer unnecessary calls while driving. The Jabra speakerphone does not come with a home charger. That is ridiculous, and I would never buy a product that required another purchase, when it should come with it in the first place. I saw so few reviews for the Supertooth3, which was disappointing, but decided to write one myself.

I received it yesterday. It took just under an hour to charge, and it comes with a home charger, car charger and two magnet clips. It wouldn't sync the phonebook from my LG8300, not even one at a time contacts. This means that Caller ID announces the incoming number, not the name, but that is okay with me. I had never used voice dial on my phone, but the Supertooth booklet instructed that one voice tag was necessary on the phone in order to use voice dial. So I made one voice dial call from my phone, and then tried it on the Supertooth. It worked fine. I can say, "Call Sonia Home", and it dials Sonia's home phone as opposed to her cellphone. In order to enable handsfree voice answer, one must depress the volume button until it gives the voice message that it has been done. Another reviewer of the BlueAnt Light said that the flashing blue light was driving her insane, but that light lets you know the device is working as it should. For some reason, it was not flashing right after I got it and not working, but I assume that is because I did not know how to use it.

The most annoying thing by far is in the way I have to use it, due to the fact that if I get out of my car and am within 30 feet, the BlueAnt will answer the call and I can't take it on my phone. I make many short trips and in and out of buildings at a short distance. So I have to turn off the Supertooth3 before I get out of the car, and turn it back on when I get back in. What I don't know is whether it is necessary to re-enable the voice answer by depressing the volume button every time I turn it on, but that is what I have been doing. I also wonder if these devices are made to withstand the extreme heat in the car in summer. I certainly hope so, because we have weeks at a time of 100+ degrees. I also hope it is made sturdily enough to handle being turned off and on frequently.

The voice quality of calls both ways is better than the Garmin Nuvi 360 by far. The magnets are strong. The clip was kind of hard to get on my thick visor, and I won't be able to use the business card slots on the back of the visor, but the device is small and it looks cute. It's easy to take it with you and reattach it. The battery life is said to be 800 hours if you never turn it off, and much more if you do. I will be turning it off every night.

I'd say this is the best product for this purpose, which for me is simply to comply with a law that I wish had not been passed. I find all devices to be a distraction, and a cellphone alone is less distraction than in combination with other things. Guess what? Californians can still text message while they drive! Doesn't that make you want to visit? ;)

  • Perfect for Apple iPhone

    By AGQ2OI9WQ73CW on 2008-07-02
I did a lot of research online and this one seemed to be a good choice for the iPhone. Well, it paired perfectly with the iPhone; it downloaded all 260+ phonebook entries; the text-to-speech is very good and it understands my voice command (ok, accept call, etc). The only thing missing is voice dialing, but this is really an iPhone problem, that hopefully will eventually be provided by Apple. I'm really happy about the purchase.

  • Great product

    By A2NNBXKXOGVNHK on 2008-07-15
I really wanted to give this 5 stars but it just wasn't perfect. How about 4.5 stars. The product pretty much worked as advertised. Uploading the address book was a snap. In minutes I had the product up and running. Controls were easy to use and voice features appeared to work just fine. I spent some time using the product in a variety of conditions and everything appears to work perfectly. Incoming sound appeared to be very good and I had no trouble hearing callers even in somewhat noisy conditions. Callers reported to me that my voice sounded a bit hollow or had a slight echo but they had no trouble hearing me. Pairing and unpairing has worked perfectly so I have been very happy using this. It has been a much better solution to me then a earpiece. Unlike other users, I actually had more trouble with the number caller ID then the name caller ID. It called out the names perfectly but seemed to have occasional trouble completing saying the number. At times it would cut part of the number off. On to the pros and cons:

Pros- Easy to set up and use. Generally does everything it advertises athough not quite perfectly. Good battery life and excellent sound caracteristics, easy pairing and unpairing make this a joy to use. The case is attractive and very functional with the magnetic clips that let you unhook the unit quickly. Voice controls work perfectly.

Cons- Instruction set could be better. You have to sync the address book when you add a new contact. An automated sync would have been a very nice feature. Caller ID software need just a bit more work.

Overall a very nice package. I recommend this product.

  • Text to Speech now working
    By A35TZD17ISTMRH on 2008-06-22
I was hesitant to purchase this product given the prior reviews that the text to speech was not working. However, I was more focused on the sound quality, so I took a chance and ordered.

I have to say that overall this is a great product. I have a Pantech Duo, and it took only a few seconds to pair with the BlueAnt. It would not transfer my phone book automatically, so I had to beam each contact individually, which was somewhat of a pain, but, it is a simple process. I was surprised when I received my first call that the text to speech worked fine. It announced the name directly from my phone book. Apparently, any bug with this technology has been fixed.

The call quality is good. I won't say excellent, as the person at the other end of the line usually can tell it is a speakerphone. You do not sound like you are in a tunnel, however, so it is not too bad.

The BlueAnt will also answer calls to voice commands, which is also a handy feature. Simply saying "answer" or "ok" will start the call. It also lets you know when the call is disconnected.

I also like the fact the BlueAnt announces it connects with your phone when you get in the car. This is important because there is no display screen on the unit. That is actually one of the few complaints I have. I understand that this announces calls by name or number, but it would still be nice to have a display screen to look at as well.

All in all, I am pleased with the purchase.

  • HOLD THE PRESS
    By A1XJNXTAVONQ8Y on 2008-06-08
Just as the first reviewer. I'm having the same problem with my supertooth 3. I have an Iphone and it will only announce the number not the name and Blueant requested I send it back. I will update this as soon as I recieve the new one. And yes customer service at Blueant is excellent......However, I do pay shipping back to them....that's not so good

AND NOW FOR THE UPDATE : 7/5/08 My third Blue Ant st3 is all that !.....this one works perfectly with my iphone , the first two worked fine but did not say the name of the caller.....the early models of st3 do not work with all phones.....it was software issue that has been resolved....the key here is if indeed your having problems....getting an st3 with a higher serial #....Blue Ant customer service is outstanding....Talk to Dave. he'll make it right. .... oh and i would now give this product AND OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE a five star rating !!!

  • Good First Impression
    By A2LIZ53PWM2NLS on 2008-06-26
I received my Supertooth 3 today (6-25-08). It paired very easily with my Samsung Blackjack. Transferring my contacts was not as easy but that appears to be the fault of my phone, not the Supertooth 3.

Apparently, the Blackjack doesn't support automatic transfer of contacts so each contact had to be transferred individually. Luckily, I don't have an enormous amount of contacts to transfer. I probably transferred about 60 contacts and it probably took me about 30 seconds per contact; thus, it took me about 30 minutes to transfer all of my contacts.

Upon transferring the contacts, I was happy to find that the system was announcing the contact names properly when I received calls from various people. I didn't have to do anything special to make this happen. I'm not sure why so many people have had problems getting the system to announce names (instead of just numbers).

The call clarity sounds good thus far but, having only had the device for less than a day, I have yet to hold a conversation with the system in a fast-moving vehicle. I will update this review with some additional feedback on call clarity in a week or two.

Overall, I'm very happy with this device thus far. My mom has asked me to buy her one for her birthday, which is coming up next month.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    7-6-08 Update:

I've been using the Supertooth 3 for a couple of weeks now. On my end, most calls can be heard very well. Most people on the other end of the call have reported to me they can tell that I'm on a speaker phone but still can hear me reasonably well. The Supertooth 3 owner's manual mentions that if you turn the volume down a bit on your phone that it may help with call clarity. I have tried this and people on the other end of the line did notice a slight improvement afterwards.

Overall, I'm still very pleased with the purchase. The battery life seems to be very good. My two biggest complaints, which are actually very minor, are that (1) the unit rattles a bit when I'm travelling at high rates of speed and (2) I've inadvertantly knocked down the unit a few times when I've flipped the sun visor down to block the sun out of my eyes.

Finally, it seems that some of the prior reviewers got discouraged by the fact that the automatic phonebook transfer was unsuccessful with their particular phone models and, as a result, they assumed the Supertooth 3 would simply not be able to announce any caller names. This is not necessarily true. These reviewers should still have the ability to transfer their phonebook contacts one at a time (with my phone - the Samsung Blackjack - this is accomplished by "beaming" the contacts). After doing that, the Supertooth 3 should announce the individually-transferred contact names when they call. If it is too tedious to transfer ALL contacts individually, one may still be well advised to individually transfer a select group of contacts with whom he/she communicates most frequently.

  • No names, but numbers are pretty darn good
    By A27L6G50OU7EK on 2008-06-13
I agree with the other reviewers - I can't get it to say names. But it gives me the numbers, tells me when it is connected, and so on, so I'm pretty happy. But names would be nice. And I have not contacted BlueAnt yet.

  • Love it.
    By A1CWXB1F83S4HI on 2008-06-30
I bought the ST3 about a week ago and it sends cancer rays all over my car everytime I use it.. I can feel it!!... ...

Besides that, this little gem is perfect. I didn't want to be one of those tools walking around like a cyborg, so I found this and couldn't be happier. I have a BB Perl and setup was a snap- I had to manually push my address book just after a failed automatic attempt from ST3, but it was no problem. I used the ST3 extensively and have had no issues so far.

The reconnect feature (based on vibration) is brilliant and I say thank you every time my new British lady-friend tells me that I'm connected.

Call quality is also outstanding - multiple people have told me that they cannot tell that they're on speaker and the volume is plenty loud going both ways.

    Cheers

  • Almost perfect
    By A7AOAWQ1QYVG3 on 2008-06-12
Pros - 1) Auto connect on getting inside car 2) Great battery life 3) Good filtering of car background noise 4) Ease of operation 5) Text to speech works well on incoming calls. For outgoing use your phones text to speech unit 6) Small footprint

Cons - 1) Blackberry address book download issues

  • Handsfree in Cali! Love the Supertooth 3
    By A19FGQSG3WUNUK on 2008-07-18
I purchased the Blue Ant Supertooth 3 about a month ago. I had read the other reviews where people are having issues with getting it to announce the name & sync their address book, but I do not like to wear a ear piece so I decided to give it a try. After charging it up, my husband paired it with my phone and it automatically uploaded my phone book. I think the speaker is excellent. I can hear my caller very well and have no complaints from people that I have talked to on it. I recorded voice tags for my most called number and I am able to use the voice dial feature. I just push the green button and speak the name I recorded for the number, works great sometimes and sometimes it says its not able to locate it, so I give this feature a so-so rating, but very pleased when it does work. But I also had the same issue with it not saying the name of the caller and sometimes only part of the number of the caller. I called Blue Ant Support and the technician had me remove my battery from my phone, reset the supertooth and then repair them and bam! That solved it. So I am happy! No complaints here and I think well worth the money. If you purchase it and have issues just call their support line, The customer service was excellent and now adays that says alot when alot of manufactuers have you spend an 1 hr on the phone just trying to communicate with someone in a foreign Country,

  • I love my BlueAnt Supertooth 3 and Amazon Prime!
    By A1HBPCC5527OTP on 2008-06-22
I got my BlueAnt Supertooth 3 in the other day - had it up and running in less than 20 minutes. Not one problem - works like a charm. Since I'm an Amazon Prime member, the unit was shipped to me overnight for just $3.99. This is a wonderful unit - don't hesitate to pick it up if your looking for a bluetooth speakerphone for your car!

  • I love it...not perfect but what is?
    By AUSK8MSP6Y673 on 2008-07-06
I am one of those californians that needed to go hands free.
Someone recommended this Blueant to me. I really am happy that I bought it. The only trouble I have is the voice commands. It won't always pick up my commands or will dial a wrong voice command that might be simular to another voice prompt, for instance If I say, call Smith's work, it will say call Jones work and start dialing. It only picked up the word work. Also it doesn't let you say stop or no to the voice command incase it was wrong. Maybe it is an option that is offered on different phones, and does not have anything to do with the Blueant. I know my husband's Blackberry has that option. I have a Razor and it doesn't ask you if your voice prompt is correct. Overall I really like this Blueant, Nothing is perfect but it's close.

  • A very good product...
    By AZ94WR4ODYA4X on 2008-07-08
Received our Blue Ant devices last week...had purchased one for my wife & one for me, but she decided that our daughter could make better use of it and is going for something else. Time will tell about the wisdom of that move for her. The Supertooth 3 paired up immediately with my Samsung Sync and transferred all my numbers effortlessly. My daughter has a Samsung SGH-d807 and that particular phone wasn't on the compatibility list, and we encountered problems trying to get the unit to pair up with her phone. However, we called the Blue Ant support line and a very helpful young lady was able to walk her thru the process so that it recognized her phone and loaded all her numbers...be aware that there ARE other ways of geting some things done in addition to what the booklet tells you, but you need to call them and state clearly the problem you're having. Everything seems to work as advertised...I don't have voice dialing capability on my phone, but my daughter does and it works pretty well...her voice activated dialing too. A nice touch is the visor clip is magnetic on both sides, so if you need to flip your visor down/up, all you have to do is re-attach the unit to the other side and you're still in business. One of the only units I've seen that came with both a car and wall charger, and an additional visor clip too. Voice clarity is really good, both incoming & outgoing. All in all, this boy is happy with them.

  • Satisfied with the product
    By ASLOLAAJ47KR4 on 2008-07-19
I purchased the ST3 without experience with other Bluetooth devices. I did not want an ear device, I only use the thing in my car as required in CA. I heard a review on The Tech Guy (KFI AM 640, LA station) saying that this was the device Leo Laporte (the host) used. I found positive reviews online as well on the BlueAnt devices.

I use it with my Verizon, Motorola KRZR phone. I was able to upload my phone book, but only contact by contact. One needs to realize that the 'difficulties' in simple phone book upload are often due to the PHONE not supporting the full upload protocol. It is something that is just coming into the phones now. The device does tell me the name of the person calling. This worked fine for me, I have few contacts. If you have a lot, uploading them one by one can be a drag.

I love the simple interface. Nice big buttons, simple to use... a bit of trouble getting it to recognize my voice commands but finally found for me 'accept call' worked 'OK' didn't. My only complaint about the interface is the placement of the voice volume buttons. When you grab the device to move it, you invariably hit them. Minor annoyance. They should have put them on the end of the device.

The feedback I've gotten from those I've called is that they hear me pretty clearly through it, always a potential issue with Bluetooth devices. My husband has one and when he calls me, he is MUCH clearer than when he used a ear device.

Nice device, works well... I recommend it to my friends.

  • Close to Perfection, Found My Solution
    By A2YBU04TEXCASM on 2008-07-21
So I wanted a hands free unit. Not an earpiece. I wanted simple operation and good sound quality for both me and the person I am speaking with. I am happy to report that this Supertooth3 delivers. Thanks its announcing of who is calling, I do not have to see my display to decide to accept a call. Additionally. I can simply say "accept" and the call is connected. The voice prompts sound awesome. I use the "British English". Further, I didn't want to have to reach into my pants pocket any more than absolutely necessary. My phone, as do many others, supports voice dialing. The microphone on the Supertooth3 is very good and my phone recognizes my words very well so I can voice dial effectively with this unit. The speakerphone can be plenty loud and has good sound quality. Another neat feature is the auto-reconnect. Say I get out of my car and walk away, the Supertooth3 sleeps until I return, but it only wakes up when it senses a "shake" or "jarring" in the car. In this way, just by being around my car does not automatically connect me. I found that I really like this feature. This unit is what I have been looking for. The one thing that I hope they add in the future is a "mute" button.

  • As good as it gets...
    By A3GOG17LZNMC1Y on 2008-08-26
I mainly got this unit because:

    1. I had to - New "Hands Free" law in California. (Though you can still text and drive??? Go figure)
    2. Voice Dialing interaction with capable handsets. (Mine is)

All in all, I believe this is probably one of, if not, the best hands free car device available. It was easy to sync my phone list over to it and the automatic bluetooth connection works great. All that being said, it's not perfect (and I doubt there is any "perfect" device). The worst part about it is most likely an issue with all of these types of units. Because of the mic and speaker placement, callers can hear themselves and experience an echo effect. I can turn down the volume to reduce the effect, but then it's more difficult to hear the caller. It really isn't as bad as it sounds and I would most definitely recommend the Supertooth3 to anyone. My only other issue with it is super minor. The voices aren't very appealing. They aren't the most pleasant voices in any accent or language. I have a Garmin Nav unit that has a nice pleasant female voice. The BlueAnt female voice sounds like she's not real happy to be helping you out (I really don't know another way to explain it). My wife is always joking about it...she gets a deep voice and says, "Connected to Phone."

    Pros:
    1. Bluetooth Auto-connect - This is super convenient. I open the car door and the Supertooth3 "wakes up" and connects to my phone automatically. When I get out of the car, the unit will disconnect when I am out of range and "sleep" until I return. Obviously, I need to keep the unit powered to do all of this, but I'll say this...I've been using the unit since I got it over a month ago and I'm still on my first charge!
    2. Voice Dialing and Announcing - When a call comes in, it will announce the caller by name (if they're in your address book). You can hit the "answer" button or just say "answer" to take the call. If you want to make a Voice Dial call, just hit the "call" button and it's just like the Voice Dial from your phone (phones vary). Remember, your phone needs to support Voice Dialing to take advantage of this. AT&T users should be pissed since AT&T had phone manufacturers pull this feature from their phones so that they could charge for their own Voice Dial service...losers!
    3. Good volume and simple operation.
    4. Definitely the excellent power longevity.

    Cons:
    1. Possible echo effect with some callers due to mic/speaker placement.
    2. Unpleasant built-in voices for voice prompts.

I hope this helps anyone thinking about buying this product. I really do like it alot and wouldn't give it up for anything else I've come across.

  • Nice Idea, Not totally ready for Prime time
    By A1V19O306JIVK3 on 2008-06-28
It started off really well, the device and my phone communicated and set up easily and perfectly. WOW, I was impressed. Next put it on my visor in the car and again, I was very pleased. Made a call and was happy with the sound quality on my end, not quite loud enough but very good. Problem was the caller said they were echoing back at themselves (like they were talking to themselves) and I sounded like I was in a fishbowl, I called back on the land line and no better. Hung up and used phone. Called another co-worker and a smaller echo to them but she thought I sounded like I was talking underwater in a pool or had bees swarming. She sounded clear to me. Hung up and used phone. Next call, same problems with their reception, landline and cell phone, both attempts, different cell provider. I have a call into support but, so far I am dissapointed in the sound transmission from the device. May have to go back to the bluetooth earpiece.

  • works great with a BlackBerry !
    By A3PD8WEKB940Z0 on 2008-07-13
I CAN'T STAND those BT earpieces, so a speakerphone was my only option. I looked at many speakerphones online and in stores and just based on aesthetics the BlueAnt was the clear choice for me. Other speakers looked cheap, like a toy. Once I received it, I plugged it into the charger, it fully charged in about 30-45 min. I followed the instructions and it paired in seconds to my BlackBerry Curve 8330 no problem. I followed the address book transfer on page 7 and had 147 contacts transferred in about 2 minutes and it's worked perfectly ever since. The sound quality works fine for me, I mean, of course you can tell someone is on a speaker, but there is no problem with road noise or volume. They even give you 2 visor clips with the ST3 so if you have 2 cars you can leave one in each! My Mom who is NOT an electronics wiz has a Supertooth2 and totally LOVES it!! She has already recommended it to her sister who has one on order.

  • happy so far
    By A1WRNIWFS31Y3F on 2008-07-21
I received my Supertooth3 a few days and am satisfied so far. It was, as other reviewers said, quite easy to set up and use(and I am a techno-nerd). One weird thing: it told me that my attempt to transfer my phone book to the speakerphone was not successful so I didn't try to use voice calling and was going to call tech support. However, I discovered that the phone book DID transfer. So now I can "Call Home" without dialing, and that's quite nice. Those I've spoken to using the Supertooth3 report that the voice quality is very clear on their end, as it is on mine. I did not want a big metal earpiece so I'm very glad I found this product. The blue light that others complained about is not a distraction, as far as I'm concerened.

  • Another Failure To Import Contacts
    By A1A245Q4P2BUQU on 2008-08-11
I purchased the BlueAnt Supertooth Light Bluetooth Handsfree Speakerphone, Black last year and liked it, so I thought I would upgrade to their new model so I could take advantage of the new text to speech spoken caller-id feature that speaks the name of the caller.

Unfortunately, like many other reviews show below, the Supertooth 3 could not import my contacts. It wasn't able to import the address book at once and also could not transfer using the alternate method of manually sending contacts one at a time despite assistance from technical support.
The Supertooth 3 has compatibility issues with my Motorola Q9C (and apparently many, many other phones). My Q9C had no problem transferring contacts to other devices, so the problem is with the BlueAnt Supertooth 3.

If you are unable to get your contacts into the Supertooth 3, then the text to speech caller-id does not work. Without text to speech to announce the caller's name, it loses it's main advantage over other bluetooth kits and only announces the caller-id phone number. Other kits such as the MOTOROKR T505 Bluetooth Car Kit can announce the phone number already and have added features that make them a better choice in that case.
It was able to pair with the phone and access the voice dial feature built into my phone, but my Supertooth Light can already do that, so no need for this if I can't use the text to speech caller-id.

The A/C adapter had a annoying buzz and the microphone didn't seem to be working properly, so it may have also been defective.

Since it was not compatible with transferring contacts from my phone, I returned it for refund instead of exchanging it to see if a different unit had a better power adapter and mic.

You take a risk buying if you are not sure if the Supertooth 3 is capable of reliably transferring contacts from your particular phone model and there is no list of phone models available that are guaranteed to work or not work so you will know before committing to purchase.
The reseller charges a restocking fee for returns and doesn't refund shipping/handling, so those charges were a very annoying waste of money.
I will never use another third party reseller on Amazon in the future so this never happens again.

  • Works with IPhone 3 G w/ Name Recoginition
    By A3GEN9Y8LWVKI6 on 2008-08-25
    BlueAnt BA-SUPERTOOTH3 Bluetooth Handsfree (Black)

I read a number of reviews about this product from a number of web sites. I read how the BlueAnt Supertooth 3 (BS3) would not accept the names in IPhone contact and thus announce the caller by name with the text to speech feature and only announce calls by number.

I have the IPhone 3g. I just downloaded the Apple 2.0.2 software for the phone. Long story short, the BS3 paired easily with my IPhone and it announces incoming calls by name of contact. So it did work with my phone.

About the product itself: It is a good product. It is loud and clear. I have not had any complaints about sounding like I'm talking out of tin can. Callers say the can hear me clearly. The speaker on the BS3 works great.

Practical information: The quick start guide will have you up and running very fast. If you leave the BS3 on, every time you enter your vehicle, it will automatically pair with the phone.

The text to speech feature is nice BUT, unique. I mean that t will "attempt" to announce the names. Many of the names in my contacts do not translate will with the text to speech feature. Names like "John Smith," convert very well. Any kind of ethnic names don't come across well.

Also, you can answer a call after the name or number is announced by saying "yes" or "accept." However, you must say it very loud and you have to do it after a prompt. If you miss saying "yes" or "accept" after the prompt, you will probably miss the call if you try to answer it that way.

OVERALL: Very good product. The text to speech is nice, but sounds sloppy with my contact names. Also, it is almost easier just pressing the button to answer the phone rather then yelling "yes" or "accept."
No complaints on the actual using the product for calls. Its excellent for that. The voice features are a cool idea, but don't work all that great in the real world. And yes, it worked with my IPhone.

  • Awesome Product - Perfect Hands Free Portable Device
    By A2F0DKTXRVCMZO on 2008-06-24
I was looking for a hands free bluetooth that I could easily move from vehicle to vehicle. This product is IT! It is lightweight, compact, large buttons, easy to use two button function, intelligent voice commands, associated with my phone and took over the voice dialing capabilities on the phone (with some phones it can download your contact list automatically). I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

  • Very Good Product
    By A2T4POLZPFAJMU on 2008-07-02
I got my ST3 a few days ago due to CA law changes. Voice dial works, people hear me fine and I can hear them good.

Cool how it re-pairs automatically about 10 to 20 seconds after getting close to it.

It took me a couple tries to get the voice dialing working on my Sprint Sanyo Katana DLX, but it does work using the recording in the phone.

I could not transfer the phone book. I tried several times, both auto and manual. I've given up for now - 4 stars.

  • Very practical device, easy to use
    By ALOGGAZ6RNCCH on 2008-07-07
I bought one for my wife to put in her car since Cali has decided that people can not use the handset while driving, but do allow text messaging (a different editoral issue).
Pairing was very easy and the device works as advertised. My wife is not a very tech savvy person and is very comfortable with this device since most commands are voice activated. Speaker is clear as is out going communication.
The only issue is that sometimes names announced when an incoming call comes in from the cell's phonebook is not reconizable. Other than that, this is a very capable device and I've recommended it to several people.

  • Great Product
    By A26VA5UQXUQLN0 on 2008-07-18
This product is awesome. I have been told it sounds great from people that are listening to me on the other end of the phone. The Caller id and the name identifer functions works great. I heard of people that do not have the name identifying functions working. I advise to try updating the phone contacts with the are code and the phone number because I noticed on my phone that if I had a friend added with just the phone number but no are code on my phone and a call came through the blueant supertooth3 would not say the name it would only identify the phone number. However if the contact on my phone had the area code and the phone number the blueant supertooth3 would say the name of the caller as the call came in.

I purchased this item based on reviews posted on the Manufacturers website.
I received a lot of negative comments on the poor audio quality.
I even adjusted the volume so low I could barely hear anything (Reduce acoustical feedback), but it just was poor...

Thank goodness the company I purchased it through from Amazon (Not the Manufacturer), gave me a return authorization and credited my account as soon as they received the unit from me.
KUDOS to DB Roth for their great customer service!
I ended up purchasing a Motorola T550 and it works great.
I was willing to pay a premium for the device, because I needed it for business.

  • Great improvement over previous models
    By A2E9JNP5WHFLFU on 2008-08-19
I owned the first version of the Blue Ant Supertooth and this is a nice improvement. You don't need to flip a big switch to turn it on and it pairs up automatically with my Blackberry Curve. My one complaint is that the voices available are a bit annoying. The US English is odd and the UK English sounds too seductively like a James Bond girl. But overall it is a good product and I plan to buy one for my wife's car.
