Mobile only works while playing music, so you are FORCED to listen to it & it is too LOUD even on the lowest setting By A2NL944SJ9NGHL on 2007-01-30
IMPORTANT: Find a mobile with the option of it working, while being silent w/out music.
I thought this mobile was great for the first 5 minutes, but then I quickly realized, I couldn't get the thing to shut up- darn it- they didn't put that option on it! How can this be? It is a $40+ dollar mobile. My baby just wanted to see it go, but the music, and sliding beads put him over the edge. This mobile is too loud, and the sliding beads are loud as well. It stimulates baby too much. Even after covering it up and arranging it under the bumper pad- it was still too loud.
The motion is actually quite hypnotizing and great, but "Tiny Love" RUINED it by not putting a "silent running feature button" on it. I'd pay $60 for it if it would just be quiet!!!
If this mobile worked without sound it would be wonderful. As it is now, I can't use it that much- only when baby is at his happiest. Even then, the mobile wears him out- and ruins his happy state, because it is too loud.
I think I shall pry it open and try to break the speaker. I am serious.
I rated it with one star, because I can only use it when my baby is at his most rested and happiest state. If he is the least bit tired, it overstimulates him and makes him cry.
Baby has love/hate relationship with mobile By A7HRQ4T5NVZHE on 2007-05-04
When we put together our nursery we bought a very charming little mobile with a wind-up mechanism. The baby loved it, but she began to start screaming when the music stopped after about a minute. I found myself constantly winding the thing in order to keep her quiet, which seemed to defeat the purpose of the mobile. These Symphony-in-Motion mobiles seem to be some of the only battery-operated mobiles out there. Compared to our other little mobile, it is huge and garish. It is also kind of sinister looking because the way it moves and the black-and-white spirals on it give it the appearance of a 1950's brainwashing tool. I don't know if that description makes sense, but if you saw it you would understand.
When the baby is in a good mood she can be transfixed by the mobile for about 5 or 6 minutes. Then she starts screaming. If she is in a bad mood she whimpers and won't even look at it. When I put her to sleep I try to keep the mobile as far from her line of vision as possible, because it is too stimulating and will keep her up. This isn't easy, because it's enormous.
Although I don't like how it looks I'm holding on to it because I have a feeling that the mobile will ultimately be capable of yielding 10-15 minutes of baby bliss. At only 2 months, it's understandable that the baby would be a little freaked out by it.
It only works with the loud music on. Too loud even on lowest setting. By A2NL944SJ9NGHL on 2007-01-29
I try to muffle the music out with putting the speaker part under the bumper pad, but it is still too loud...even on the lowest setting. I can't beleive that for a mobile that costs $40 there isn't an option of watching the motion without the music. I am going to return it tomorrow.
It would be fine as an object for stimuli, but I was hoping for a more calming effect. My baby liked it for awhile, but when he got tired- he hated the noise. I had to turn if off, pick him up, and walk around with him to calm him. The mobile did more harm than good.
I will be in search for another mobile WITH THE OPTION OF IT WORKING WITH AND WITHHOUT THE SOUND FUNCTION.
Quirky, FUNctional and durable! By AQV9CHFI079SK on 2006-07-25
This mobile is great! It is age appropriate, FUNctional and not a clone of all the other "whimsical" mobiles that are out there. This quirky one fit the bill for us. Our baby loves it! After he could reach it, we removed the mobile portion and he still listens to the music. And since the buttons are easy to press, he can turn it on himself! I guess this feature could also be considered a drawback!;)
In my opinion the bright colors would be appropriate for a boy or a girl (the animals do have pink accents but not an overwhelming amount). We were a little concerned that our baby would have a somewhat distorted understanding of animals since the animals look so funky - definitely not the traditional Old Macdonald stuff! But that doesn't seem to be a problem and he was mesmerized by it, so that works for me! The batteries last a long time and the volume control is another nice feature. Also, the classical music has a relatively good sound quality.
This was also very durable, because even with moving the "arm" of the mobile around several times a day and my baby pulling on the animals before we moved it out of his reach, all was still well on the farm!
Make sure it fits your crib By A3FJPXQ408LTKJ on 2007-08-19
This mobile looks neat, but make sure it fits your crib before you buy it. The control panel is made to hang off of the railing in your baby's crib, but if your railing is to thick, then you will not be able to secure it to the crib.
If you want to see what I'm talking about, look at the picture of the mobile. Go down to the control pad and just above it you can see a yellow hanger that goes over the railing. You need to have a railing that is small enough to let the unit hang on top, while also letting you screw the panel on in the back.
- Great Mobile
     By A2IWUY7AKB8TA3 on 2007-03-04
This mobile is amazing. From the time she was 6 weeks old, my daughter was mesmerized by the motion and the music. She loves watching the animals and can be left in her crib for up to 45 minutes simply glued to the mobile. Although it can be noisy, it doesn't seem to bother her and she often falls asleep at night to the sights and sounds. A MUST for any nursery.
- Awesome mobile, a little higher would be nice
     By A2V9V43ETK008S on 2006-09-24
My baby loves this mobile! He has been totally riveted by it since the beginning. So much so that in the beginning, I would put him down in the crib when he was sleepy and with the mobile off, he was so busy looking at the colors and shapes that he wouldn't go to sleep and would get re-energized! Now that it is "old hat", (he's 6 months) he still loves to look at it and watches it closely but he will go to sleep. The only thing I would change about this mobile is the height. Since it is a rather large mobile and the critters hang down pretty far, it is a little tricky to maneuver the baby to get him in and out of the crib without hitting his head on the mobile pieces. If the pieces didn't come down quite so low or if it had adjustable height, that would make things a little easier.
It's a really interesting mobile. You can almost see the little minds growing! It may not match the nursery colors or theme (kinda looks like Dr. Seuss) but the baby will love it and that's what it's about!
- Great Mobile
     By A2CA9DSN4NEN3V on 2007-03-22
I really like this mobile. It keeps my 13 week old infant entertained and she also falls asleep to it from time to time. She gets so mesmorized by it that she will fall asleep. My only problem with it was the first one they sent me did not work but Amazon does such a great job with returning it that all I had to do was email them that it do not work and they sent me one right away to replace it and all I had to do was print the label out and postage and everything was taken care of, just had to drop it off at the post office. I actually got the replacement within 4 days so that is pretty good. They are on top of things.
- So far so good!
     By A38IJOGGQWNGZ9 on 2006-08-11
I returned 2 Fisher Price mobiles because they either broke after a month or were defective from the start. SO, my little one was in desperate need of a good, working mobile. I paid a little more for this one, and it doesn't have lights or a remote but it WORKS, she is mesmerized and it only takes a few AA batteries (not the 4 D batteries the FP ones require)! This is a great product as it does what its supposed to do.
- We love this mobile!
     By A14VKBA6P3P6YP on 2006-10-04
The mobile is wonderful! I love the fact that you can control the volume of the music so that it's not overwhelming. I also love the bright colors and the contrasting colors and multiple shapes. It absolutely keeps the baby riveted! I also like that you can chose the music selection as well. It's a wonderful product, very safe, very padded, and very well made. We love it!
- DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!
     By AVP0HASVBWIHX on 2005-03-18
We registered for and received this Tiny Love mobile as a baby shower gift. Almost immediately after setting it up and using it, the motor wore out. We contacted the manufacturer and they sent us another one. THAT one died almost immediately too! I think we got to use both mobiles a total of about 5 times! I don't know if the animals are too heavy for it or what, but the product just doesn't work - so don't waste your time or money.
- LOVE IT!
     By A1N2366Y8L6Y7F on 2006-07-16
We've been using this mobile for over 2 months and we LOVE IT. My son is now 5 months old and is just able to reach the animals, can't quite grab them yet though. He never tires of watching the mobile. I even enjoy watching it because each animal is counter-balanced with a stuffed ball which makes the movement a little less predictable.
I have 2 complaints: The on/off button is very big and sensitive. A few times we have woken up in the night to the sound of the mobile - my son must have kicked it on in his sleep. I guess that can be remedied with better placement in the crib. Also, it is so LOUD. I wish I could turn the volume down even lower than low.
We have had to replace the batteries once, but otherwise it's been great. I definitely would recommend this mobile.
- Stimulating and entertaining
     By A25861KUV3ZUVY on 2006-11-30
My twins LOVE this mobile. I intend to get it for every baby shower I go to from now on. I would have two (one for each baby) except that you can't turn on the mobile without the music, and I don't want a battle of the bands in the nursery. My babies have been fascinated by this toy since I got it when they were 3 months old, and continue to find it calming and distracting at 6 months old. No matter how needy they've been acting, I can put them down to watch this mobile and have an uninterrupted 15 minutes to take care of whatever needs to be done. A lot of mobiles have music that can annoy adults, but not this one. Having the on/off button and music choice buttons available to the babies in the crib is also wonderful; mine are starting to learn cause and effect as they kick the music on and off, much to their delight. If you have multiples, Tiny Love has a wonderful multiples programs: you only have to pay for one toy and they'll give you enough of the same type of toy for the remaining multiples for free. The only catch is that you have to order over the phone.
- great mobile!
     By A2JUM2EEQ39VBA on 2006-12-22
My baby loved it since he's 3-month old. He liked to stare at those 3 animals for minutes and smiled at them. Now he's over one year, he still loves it. He can point to each animal and talk to them. This is one thing that can make he calm down and let me change his diaper easily.
- Pure Delight
     By A1UB4N16BZBG4B on 2007-05-13
Kicks her feet and squeals in delight. I had bought one for my Mom's house and once I saw our little girls reaction I replaced the one I had in our home with it. SHE LOVES IT!!!
- Great mobile!
     By APWLNPJN4QVMA on 2007-06-08
My daughter has LOVED this mobile since she was only weeks old. She would lay in her crib and watch it for 20 minutes or more very content. She is now 14 months old and will watch it when getting a diaper change. The beauty of this mobile is that you can take the animals off and leave only the music box in the crib. My daughter wakes from naps and puts the music on herself now and enjoys doing it as it is something familiar. The music has two volumes and seems just right. I can't imagine not having had this mobile to entertain her all this time! Highly recommended. She loved the Tiny Love activity gym too.
- Baby loved it from day one...
     By A2YFAHRCIBKQ5Q on 2007-06-25
My son has enjoyed this mobile from the day we brought him home form the hospital. The music stays on for a good long time, which is nice since this model does not come with a remote. It is a little large as well, but in my case, this was not much of an issue. I have only one or tow complaints regarding this mobile. One is that the swivel arm is completely useless. Sure you can swivel it around, but it doesn't stay in the position you swivel it to. It just swings back in place. Second, if you have a crib that has wide slats at the top, it doesn't hang on well to the side of the crib. I seem to constantly be readjusting it to keep it from flopping down into the crib. I think the support arm could be a little longer. The animals are a little odd looking, but I can only imagine that he liked their very animated faces... Sadly, my son who is now almost one, recently pulled it down and threw it on the floor, breaking it. :( Until that moment, he was always engrossed with the black and white spirals underneath, as well as the brightly colored animals and the music. So even though I had one or two very minor complaints, I would highly recommend it.
- Baby LOVES this mobile!
     By A3A2RKH4MAUQOG on 2007-07-11
We have used this from day 1 and from about 2weeks old she has been memorized. I love the goofy looking animals-it may not be pleasing to our eyes but is is perfect for babies. I don't find it too loud, she can't get enough of it and it gives me 15min to take a shower :) In fact this even calms her when she is fussy.
She is now 5 months, and I will be sad when we have to take down the mobile, but we shall still use the music box.
- Our baby loves this thing!
     By AC1I2SUZ0TLT6 on 2007-07-14
When we unpacked this mobile, I was so excited about how bright and fun the colours were, and that it played classical music. Our baby loves it and will lay looking and listening for the full 15 minutes(enough time for me to have a shower). Before he was even big enough to follow the mobile with his eyes, he would turn his head and listen.
I am giving this mobile a four star rating
A)I do agree with some of the other reviews that this mobile is too loud even on the quiet setting the thing blasts through the house(baby doesn't mind, but the grown-ups begin to hate it after a while).
B) I have found that it doesn't hold on to the spindles of his crib very well and if I bump it has a tendency to fall over no matter how tight I screw the thing in.
- The Best
     By A1T6UO4I818A6H on 2007-07-18
My daughter loves this mobile. It was the best thing in the beginning -- it was the only reason she'd let me put her down to go use the bathroom! Now it helps her fall asleep. It's really the best mobile out there, in my opinion.
- Baby's crazy about it, we're not driven crazy by it!
     By AJJ48QEAL6WMP on 2007-08-17
My daughter LOVES this thing- it's one of the best things I've spent 40 bucks on. The music is melodic (it's put both of us to sleep a few times!), it has volume control, and it shuts off after 15 minutes. It doesn't suck up batteries all that quickly, and it's easy to assemble. I totally get why babies dig it- the colors are really vivid and the animals are cute. I will sometimes peek over her crib and she'll just be watching it, smiling and cooing at it. I highly recommend!
- Comes with free miracle!
     By A34Q4EQENBHPN7 on 2007-09-12
I wouldn't normally have considered paying $40+ for something which in my childhood was considered basically a bit of nursery decor - of course back in those prehistoric days mobiles were wind- or parent-operated paper cutouts on strings. I splashed out in desperation when my 4 week old seemd to have developed an aversion to being awake and nothing I did would amuse her or quiet the screaming. Eureka - instant solution in a box. Nine times out of ten she calmed right down literally within a minute of being set down in the crib under this enormous contraption. A few weeks on, now she's starting to become more aware of movement and color, she's even more fascinated by it and focuses on and tracks different elements as they move in and out of her range of vision. It doesn't put her to sleep but it captures her attention without overstimulating. It's also good for calming her down before ber pre-bedtime bath. I don't find the music overly loud as some reviewers have commented, in fact I rarely use the quieter setting as even a fan running or traffic outside the open window tends to overpower the music. It has a nice slow motion which balances out the complexity of the movement, which I could see might be a bit unnerving if it was faster. One of the animals looks a bit psychotic to my adult eyes, with its eyeballs pointing in different directions, but I don't think it really makes any difference to my daughter. It is rather larger than most mobiles so I guess some kids could be a bit freaked out by it looming over them, but mine doesn't seem fazed by anything much! I have noticed a slight clicking sound starting up from the mobile hub so I hope that doesn't bode ill or get much louder but hopefully it'll stay in check. A great buy.
- Symphony Mobile ROCKS!!
     By A1JLNRJZF6CLHZ on 2007-10-27
This mobile is AMAZING!! My daughter has been using it for 6 weeks now (she is 9 weeks old) and she LOVES it!! It has been a blessing--distracting and keeping her happy long enough for me to get some free time to check emails, read a few chapters in a book, wash dishes, play with my two boys (2 and 6) ... a few times my free time was even long enough for me to take a semi-long, relaxing, invigorating, much-needed shower!! : ) The music isn't the typical mobile music and you have three different songs to choose from. I would defiantly recommend this product!
- Needs a mute button and an on-off button in back
     By AVJE8H3CN2QVL on 2007-11-14
I'm a first time mom and didn't check this mobile out very well. I only picked it for it's colors. In fact, it was my inspiration for my room decor. It needs a mute button, an option to stop the sliding things, and a main on-off button away from baby. I went to find these options as my new baby cried and was shocked not to find them. I finally got smart and taped the sliding things and muffled the speaker with some craft foam which only helped a little. My now three month old enjoys the mobile when he's happy, but he has yet to fall asleep with it. I will try also to break it open and disconnect the music, but I think I will have to pick a new crib toy that is for sleeping.
- Thank god for this mobile, I can take 15 minute showers!
     By A3MPWZNB1K8J1G on 2007-11-19
I don't know what everyone is writing about the music being too loud. I don't find it loud at all! There are two settings and the lowest one is perfect. My baby ADORES this mobile. The minute I hooked it up and put him in the crib to look at it, he couldn't contain himself. I wish I had gotten this much earlier than I did. Once I got it, I could suddenly take long showers and know he was being entertained, not crying, and totally happy for a while in his crib.
He's 5 months old now, and just starting to get a little bit bored with it because he can't touch it.
I *highly* recommend this mobile. The best baby toy I own, hands down.
- POOR SOUND QUALITY
     By A35U032FGXAEGX on 2007-11-25
I can't stand to listen to this mobile! The sound quality is bad, LOUD with no volume control or off switch, and the song choices aren't very good in my opinion- too melancholy for a baby! How about something soothing or cheerful? Plus, the beads that move when it spins are loud, too. Wish I could return it.
- My Baby Loves This Mobile...and So Do I!
     By A3HYEPETWVHSFQ on 2007-12-18
This is the first review I have ever written. Being a mother of four, I have tried many different things to keep my baby entertained and soothed. This mobile was given to me for my 4th baby. I hesitated putting it in the crib because it didn't go with my theme...but I tried it anyway. My baby has been captivated by this mobile since birth. She is 3 1/2 months old and loves to watch the mobile...and it puts her to sleep at night. It has been a lifesaver!!
- Buyer beware - poor customer service!!
     By A3HO2J3VI7QV9H on 2008-05-09
This worked great for about four months then the mobile stopped working. The music still works. Pretty much useless, and Tiny Love couldn't be less interested. There are other products out there, think twice before buying this one. My screaming infant in the background is testament to my frustration.
- A great mobile to keep baby occupied
     By A1VBFXKX8GFX3Z on 2008-07-18
If I had to pick only one piece of baby gear that I could keep it would be this mobile. It has truly been a lifesaver for us. Let me start out by stating that this is not a mobile that would help most babies go to sleep because it is very stimulating. It has done an AMAZING job, however, at keeping our daughter occupied while we need to get a few things done and to get her to stop crying. She is a pretty fussy baby but starting around 1.5 months of age, she began to LOVE this mobile (and still does now at almost 4 months of age). Many times she would be crying and screaming uncontrollaby, but as soon as she would open an eye and see the mobile, 9 times out of 10 she would stop screaming and would smile and coo. We have the mobile over her bassinet/changing table. It makes diaper changing a very pleasant experience. I also can take a fairly long shower while she hangs out in the bassinet looking at the mobile every morning.
The music plays for a fairly long time and the motor seems to run well. (I probably have it on for at least an hour a day if not more.) You can't shut the music off, but this doesn't bother me. In fact, I like this aspect of it because once the music stops I know the mobile has also stopped so it's time to push the start button again. I have only positive things to say about the mobile and for us it has been worth every penny and then some.
- Worked great for us
     By A1YGAI9YSPYXH3 on 2005-02-19
My daughter loved this mobile. When she woke up to eat, we always had to change her diaper first. Of course, this also meant we'd have to wash our hands before feeding her, which would annoy her since she was already hungry. However, once we turned on the mobile, she would stay calm until I was ready. I'm not sure why the other poster's mobile didn't work. We haven't had any problems with it at all (it's been 6 weeks). One thing to note though is that you should turn off the music as soon as you pick baby up because it uses up batteries rather quickly.
