  I'm not sure what this cable is supposed to work with. I bought it to connected the HDMI output of a non-copyprotected digital video recorder to the component input of our TV. I was never able to get the TV to recognize any signal from the DVR using this. Although I was warned in person and on a couple of AV forums that this wouldn't work, I thought it would be worth a try given the low cost. I hope the vendor adds a more detailed description in the future stating what types of HDMI products this cable can work with.

  I hooked this cable from a HDMI output to A HD TV with component input.
  Did not work no video or sound. The last review said you need a hd tv. well mine is and still dident work.

  On their main website it says this cable can be used to hook your *projector* to your TV. Now, pray tell, what would be the purpose of such a connection? (And I've not seen a project with an HDMI *output* anyway.)
  
  Lame. Due to the incompatible digital-analog signals (component is analog, HDMI is digital) there is no way this could work without some sort of conversion circuitry. Of course it *will* connect the HDMI and Component ports, they just won't work. ;)
  
  Please save your hard earned money and look elsewhere for "magic."

  This is a non-standard wiring setup. This setup has routed analog component video through an HDMI socket. HDMI devices normally accept HDMI with digital signals coming in; this cable is not compatible with those (about 99% of the devices). WHERE IT WILL WORK: With devices specifically made to accept an analog signal routed through an HDMI port. These devices are extremely rare, and if you have one, your user's manual will clearly state as much. Unfortunately, because there are a few such devices on the market, there are now "HDMI to Component" cables being marketed in various outlets, and the sellers of these products often do not appear to realize that they will work with only a very small, limited class of devices. Don't buy one just to try out; unless your manual says it will work, it WILL NOT.

  This is the equivalent of a hose that when connected to any faucet turns that water into wine.
  The cable does not convert a digital signal to an analog signal. Big bummer.

  1. HDMI is digital with pulses and component is analog with waveforms
  2. HDMI has 19 pins and component + audio has only 5
  3. HDMI has the HDCP copy protection signal whereas there is no component equivalent
  4. A cable is a passive device made up of 2 connectors, solder and wires. It cannot convert one digital signal into another analog signal.

  As you can see, there is NO POWER SUPPLY or CIRCUIT BOARD that would be REQUIRED to convert a digital HDMI signal into an ANALOG COMPONENT signal! DO NOT BUY! I never knew Amazon had scammers like this, and am surprised they don't have an easy option to report fake products. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Don't believe any mention of "oh, it didn't work because you're using a copy-protected HDMI source".. that's total bull sh!7. • The Fake "Magic" Cable

  this cable doesn't work, and will never work - don't even bother to click anything related to produces such as these. This "magic" cable is merging a digital signal and a analog signal - simply by soldering the wires together...who ever sells these things knows its a rip - don't be fooled.

  Of course this cable will not work with HDCP compliant devices. HDCP devices (blue ray and HD DVD player) require a hand-shake with the display to ensure that the display is compliant with copy protection. A simple cable without a chip that could mediate the handshake between your HD source and HD display will never work. Some blue rays can be viewed in lower resolutions if your display is not HDCP compliant. Save your money! Google device such as HD Fury2. That is if you are interested in using HDMI to hook up your first gen HD displays with HDCP compliant sources.

  I agree with the other reviewers here that this product just doesn't make sense. Component video is analog, and HDMI is digital. Without some form of active analog to digital conversion, which this cable doesn't have because it's purely passive, there is no way this would work. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is that, being a good empirical engineer, I haven't tried it myself. But really, there is no way this could work the way it's actually configured now. If you're a better engineer than I and can explain why this would work, please leave me a comment, because I just don't get it.

  This HDMI to Svideo Cable does not exist and there is no such thing as an HDMI to Svideo Cable! If someone is selling an HDMI to Svideo Cable don't buy it as it doesn't work.
  
  HDMI to Svideo Cable doesn't exist because:
  1. HDMI is digital with pulses and Svideo is analog with waveforms so an HDMI to Svideo Cable won't work
  2. HDMI has 19 pins and Svideo + audio has only 3 so an HDMI to Svideo Cable won't work
  3. HDMI has the HDCP copy protection signal whereas there is no component equivalent so an HDMI to Svideo Cable won't work.

  I wish i had read the reviews already. This item is a piece of s&$! it does nothing of what it is supposed to do. All it is, is a hdmi male sodered to random cables that look like component cables. I knew that digital signals cant normally be converted to analog signals, but figured i'd give it a try....wrong. Waste of money this item should be taken off amazon, it is a scam.

  This will not work to connect an HDMI output to an older TV or projector. It does no digital to analog conversion. It is just an HDMI cable that one end has RCA connectors instead of the HDMI connector. Do not buy!

  I hooked up the HDMI to the TV and the Component Video + Stereo Audio AV Cable to the HD Cable Box and my tv says no signal.. I checked every imput and trust me it DOES NOT WORK.

  this is a fake, hdmi to component is not a viable accessory. Totally different electronic connections are needed for hdmi and component. You can not convert hdmi signal to simple rca connector. Should not even be sold.
